Connie N. | 3773 comments Interestingly I got a couple of comments on my review from the author. She was very understanding, but it always makes me cringe when I think about the author reading a negative review from me.

message 452: by Helen (new)

Helen | 1255 comments Connie,

That's interesting! I've always wondered if the authors check back to see our reviews...

I finished this one from #448:
Tomorrow, the Stars Robert A. Heinlein 6-10-20

I'll pick CO and read:
Conversations with God, Book 1 Guidebook: An Uncommon Dialogue Neale Donald Walsch

The new letters: LE and TO

message 455: by Barb (last edited Jul 15, 2020 09:05PM) (new)

Barb | 1868 comments Finally read my book for GO, way back on an earlier page. I'm not a big romance reader, but I like Jenn McKinlay, so I figured I'd give this one a shot, and liked it more than I expected to. That's a win, right?

Paris is Always a Good Idea, by Jenn McKinlay, finished 7/11 ★★★.5
Paris Is Always a Good Idea by Jenn McKinlay

I don't have anything for the current pairs, but I'll keep an eye on the thread and jump back in when the "right" letters pop up :)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I finished my pick for LI - Legacy of Lies (Bocephus Haynes, #1) by Robert Bailey excellent legal thriller/southern mystery. message 471: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. | 3773 comments Woohoo, Barb!

message 472: by Elle (new)

Elle (elleay) | 1792 comments I have been very remiss in posting updates on the letter pairs I've taken on (more than a year ago!) and I apologize. Here are two that I have completed:

TO: Men Explain Things to Me by Rebecca Solnit (7/26/20) - I know many people really like this book, but me, not so much. I probably shouldn't have read it in 2020 when so much is happening. My mind was perhaps not in the right place to properly take it on. I may give it a re-read at another time.

HA: The Left-Handed Booksellers of London by Garth Nix (9/26/20) - fun retro fantasy (set in 1980's London) by a reliable author.

I'll take QU since I have The Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner on my October reading list.

New Pairs: SA and EV

message 473: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Heh. You're remiss in posting them -- that's better than being me, and being remiss in reading them! LOL

I'll take SA with How to Save a Life by Liz Fenton How to Save a Life.

New pairs: EV and SP

message 474: by Helen (new)

Helen | 1255 comments I changed my OP from #464 from a spiritual one to a mystery.

OP=
Open and Shut David Rosenfelt 10-14-20

So, now I'll take SP.

New pairs: EV and AN

message 475: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1868 comments Don't know how soon I'll get to it, but I'll take the AN. Maybe it will motivate me to read this much-needed Y title sooner rather than later?
You Can't Make This Up Miracles, Memories, and the Perfect Marriage of Sports and Television by Al Michaels

New pairs : EV and TR

message 476: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) That one's been on my TBR forever too. :)

New pairs : EV and TR

message 477: by Helen (new)

Helen | 1255 comments From #474, SP is:

Now I'll take: EV

New pairs: TR and BL

message 478: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I finished a few that I don't think I've posted:
The Provence Cure for the Brokenhearted by Bridget Asher Witch Is Why The Moon Disappeared (A Witch P.I. Mystery #17) by Adele Abbott The Strawberry Hearts Diner by Carolyn Brown Act One An Autobiography by Moss Hart ,
which means i'm only behind by five on this challenge. That's almost respectable! I'll take TR with Fake Truth (Ian Ludlow Thrillers #3) by Lee Goldberg Fake Truth.

New pairs: BL and NO

message 479: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1868 comments Go Jennifer!

message 480: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. | 3773 comments Nice job, Jennifer!

I'll take BL and will read Girl in Hyacinth Blue.

New pairs: NO and ME

message 481: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1868 comments Finally finished my book for AN. It was an entertaining listen, but I preferred the sections read by Al Michaels rather than those by his co-writer. It was weird having someone else read "I went to the airport..." when he was talking about Michaels and not himself!

You Can't Make This Up: Miracles, Memories, and the Perfect Marriage of Sports and Television, by Al Michaels and L. Jon Wertheim, finished 12/19/20 ★★★.5
You Can't Make This Up Miracles, Memories, and the Perfect Marriage of Sports and Television by Al Michaels

message 482: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1868 comments I have lots of books with NO and ME in words in the titles, but nothing with a title word that *starts with those letters, so I'll keep watching :)

message 483: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. | 3773 comments Barb wrote: "Finally finished my book for AN. It was an entertaining listen, but I preferred the sections read by Al Michaels rather than those by his co-writer. I agree! I don't know why famous people don't read their own audiobooks, especially if they have a distinctive voice. I listened to Alan Alda's Never Have Your Dog Stuffed: And Other Things I've Learned, narrated by Mark Cashman. I kept feeling a little off all the way through because I wanted to hear Alda's voice.

message 484: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1868 comments The weird thing was that Michaels read parts of the book and the other guy read the rest, and they kept switching back and forth. Wonder why the powers that be thought that would be a good idea?

message 485: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. | 3773 comments Oh, that is strange. I wonder what they were thinking and what the feedback was?

message 486: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I'll take ME with Find Me in Havana by Serena Burdick Find Me in Havana.

New pairs: NO and RA

message 487: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1868 comments Still nothing here that fits, hard as that is to believe!

At Risk by S.G. Redling

A good suspense from a new-to-me author.

I'll take CR and will read Crazy for You.

New pairs: VA and LO

message 492: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1868 comments Finished my book for MU. It was a good start to a new series, but I could have done without the MC reminding herself over and over and over again that "writers should avoid cliches." Yes, they should, but ... she is a successful author, why does she need to keep reminder herself? That annoyed me enough to knock off a half star.

Murder Ink (Writer for Hire #1), by Betty Hechtman, finished 1/26 ★★★
Murder Ink (A Writer for Hire Mystery, #1) by Betty Hechtman

message 493: by Jennifer (last edited Feb 01, 2021 12:33PM) (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I finished one too -- the "NO" book from post 488. Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson Nothing to See Here. I did not expect to like this book. I expected it to read like a circus sideshow review and be utterly nonsensical in places. It didn't, and it wasn't. I really liked it -- 4 stars.

Pairs are still VA and LO

message 494: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. | 3773 comments I finished my BL book for Post #480. Not the one I planned on, but this one works:

Bloody Mary by J.A. Konrath - 2/10/21 ♥♥♥♥
Bloody Mary (Jack Daniels Mystery, #2) by J.A. Konrath

message 495: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. | 3773 comments I'll take LO and will read Lost Lake.

Next pairs: VA and HO

message 496: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1868 comments I can take HO, but I'm not sure which I'll get to first, How Dogs Love Us: A Neuroscientist and His Adopted Dog Decode the Canine Brain or How Music Works -- probably the dogs book, since I can use 'love' for my next Top 100 song :)

Next pairs : VA and SL

message 497: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1868 comments Finished my book for HO. It entertained this dog-loving science geek more than I'd expected, but I'm sure it's not for everyone :)

How Dogs Love Us: A Neuroscientist and His Adopted Dog Decode the Canine Brain, by Gregory Berns, finished 2/14 ★★★.5
How Dogs Love Us A Neuroscientist and His Adopted Dog Decode the Canine Brain by Gregory Berns

Barb | 1868 comments I'll take the SL and hope that motivates me to get to Sleeping Lady, by Sue Henry sooner rather than later :)

NEXT PAIRS : VA and LI

message 499: by Jennifer (last edited Feb 19, 2021 11:39AM) (new)
