HOW WAS YOUR TOTAL ECLIPSE EXPERIENCE?

Luckily, I live in Greenville, SC. I believe the "best local spot" to see the eclipse is in Clemson, SC, about half an hour from here. However, I am going to decide last minute where I will position myself, depending on weather reports. I got my eye protectors already, they arrived about a week ago.
I am too much of a fraidy cat to look at the eclipse through glasses. That's why we're making the box. But when the moon completely covers the sun, then I'll look up ( they say that's okay to do)Have fun, Gisela. Come back and tell your experience.

Hmm, Groovy, now that you say this I am wondering I should build a back-up box, "just in case"... I have never seen any eclipse, not even a partial eclipse; somehow, I was never in the right spot at the right time... I have no experience with this
I'll be going back to school before it happens which is awesome because my school is in Georgia! I'll be able to see it because of that :D

I live in Greenville, SC close to the GA border.
Where is your school?
Clear skies to both of us :D
I am near the St Louis area. Not in the path of a total eclipse but not too far. Still trying to decide the best way to view it. I have the glasses but not sure if I trust them. Lol
Probably asleep. I've seen my share of a few lunar and solar eclipses. So I'm good if I don't see another one. But I find writing while they are going on doesn't hurt my inspiration any.
Wow, Gisela, your first one? Where you been? :) I think this is my third or fourth, (dating myself) first total eclipse, and three partials. You're in for an experience.I know how everybody feels about the glasses, There have been counterfeits here in Tennessee. Make sure they have that genuine number printed on them, and if you're not sure please look it up. Your eyesight is too valuable to risk losing.
Angel, come on. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and you're going to sleep? Don't you want your son to experience it?
I'd love for everyone to come back and relate their experiences, including a story about the nuts that stopped in the middle of the road and caused havoc, or animals going crazy.
I'm in the Chicago area. The area of totality is about 5 hours south of me. I will either be working or at home. Not sure which right now.

He's seen one or two when he was a toddler. I guess why I say I'll be asleep is because I always end up missing them because I'm already sleep by the time they show up. At least that's how its been recently. I'll try to catch it and post my experience on here.
I remember about 3 partials over my life. God willing and the sun shines, I'll be in Carbondale Illinois for the total eclipse of the sun.

@Groovy,
somehow I must have always been at the wrong place. I grew up in Europe, then lived in S-Florida, then in Wilmington, SC, and now in Greenville, SC...
So, who knows... but at least this time I am in the right place :))
Absolutely AMAZING!!!! My daughter and I sat outside and watched the day grow darker and darker. The neighbor popped his head over the fence and gave us some extra glasses he had. When the black moon completely covered the sun we looked straight up and WOW!!!! Too bad this is a once-in-a-lifetime event. The only drawback is it didn't last long enough.
I was disappointed. I didn't end up with super powers and it doesn't look like anyone else I know did either. I asked lol!
LOL!!!! Ember-Raine. We didn't get any space visitors as some had hoped, nor did the world come to an end as I had hoped:)
Only a partial eclipse here and had too many clouds. Watched it on tv. Still worth it watching that way. (Maybe b/c I watched it live?)
Delightful. We took a 3 1/2 hour trip to Waterloo Illinois Walmart parking lot. We joined several hundred there and got 2 minutes and 10 seconds of darkness. It was quite dark enough to see Jupiter and to have the parking lot lights come on. The temperature dropped from 91 to 89 in the two minutes and the wind picked up.I'd seen three partial eclipses in my life, one to 90%. I'm glad I enjoyed the totality experience.
I'm glad to read your experiences, everyone. Thanks so much for sharing them:)Angel, I'm sorry you missed it, and your son didn't get to experience it.
Theresa, hopefully you'll get a better view in 2024.
I've no doubt that eclipse cocktail was good. And we made something in accordance with what Devorah did: For dinner we had a solar eclipse sandwich:)
I've also seen three partial eclipses, but I agree with Andy, nothing comes close to the total one!!
Thanks again, Everyone!!!
I wish I could post my 4 best pictures heretaken in Greenville SC, #totality
awesome event

Groovy wrote: "So, I take it you enjoyed the YOUR VERY FIRST event. I'm so glad, Gisela:)"@Groovy, we had a partial solar eclipse in Europe, in 1982, the year I graduated high school, plus, lunar eclipses happen take place frequently in Europe. I am not really sure why. But, certainly, this was the best solar eclipse I have seen during my life time.
For all: Test at home whether you've damaged your eyes during the Eclipse (just in case) :
It's really easy to do.
Print off an Amsler Grid, a tool used to detect vision problems.
Closing each eye separately, focus on the center dot and see whether the surrounding grid appears wavy, splotchy or distorted
If any area looks weird talk to your eye-doctor.

It was deeply moving. In my GoPro video, you can hear me mutter "Oh, my God" a few times.https://vimeo.com/230535327
Thanks for that, Gisela:)Thanks for the video, Selden. It's a good thing the clouds didn't get in the way. I can see how deeply moving it was for all of you. I'm still thinking about it:)

@Selden, that's a seriously nice video. Did you have any special filters, lenses etc...

Where will you be during the total eclipse Monday? My daughter and I will be chilling in the backyard looking through our handmade eclipse boxes:)
