Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 731 comments Hi Jane!

I need to change my book selection this week. Is it okay to switch from Option 1 to Option 2? Or am I required to select another book from Option 1?

PS - My current book is seriously creeping me out. 😳 Soooo scary.

ROFL!!! Here it is: The Bride Collector by Ted Dekker. There is a portion early on where the author writes out the killer's thoughts while he's having dinner at a diner. I'll never look at a steak again without thinking of this guy. It was super, super creepy. Nothing like hearing the thoughts of a paranoid schizophrenic with violent fantasies and believe he's (view spoiler) Beware: 1st person POV.

I can usually do creepy...but this??? It's what the author doesn't say that really freaked me out.

Of course the murder porn is about killing women...and its tag "christian" 😒

Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 731 comments The killer is definitely out of his mind/mentally ill and the book starts with the FBI agent finding his third victim. To be fair, I can't really speak to the Christian aspects of the story since I haven't read the book all the way through. That portion may depend on the law enforcement and their struggles with bringing the killer to justice, I don't know. As I was reading the book, I had to keep in mind that being Christian doesn't mean being "sin" free.

We'll stick with this list regardless of the naming.

It has to be on one of the lists to use it. You should have added it before I called the theme :D (You can't add it now.)

You can add books to any of the lists at any point up until I call that theme, so long as they fit.

It's dead easy to do - you can either vote for a book where it says 'choose a book' on the right hand side of the list, or you can click on 'add books to this list' at the top right.

All these 'bingo' style games allow you to add books to the lists provided at the start of the challenge. You just need to be sure that a book you look to add will fit the list requirements.

message 79: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24484 comments I thought I'd share a tip from Calila with the linking of a book to a list:

AFTER you've decided on your book, If you go the book page, scroll and click on "Lists with this book" and then click on the appropriate list and copy the url, you'll link directly to the book's ranking on the list rather than just copy/paste the list in general.

(This is not a requirement.)

message 80: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresainohio) for the list if book 1 is on the list, for a series can I read book 3 ?

message 81: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresainohio) if not can I read off Stacie's shelf

dead witch walking for replacement book 12 of same series that she read on sept 20, 2017 with a 3 star rating ?

message 82: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresainohio) not sure if I did my completion post. My computer died at home and phone is too hard. At library right now only get 30 minutes and if this is wrong wont be back to library for a week

I really REALLY enjoy reading vampire and paranormal books, but most of them leave me feeling lackluster when done. With this series book 1 was good enough to get me to read book 2 but but book 2 gave me a headache. I decided one more try and glad I did.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Charley and her humor is what I love most about this book. I like her "normal" cases she does more than the whole grim reaper/Reyes thing. That is growing on me with the hints of what she is really capable of doing.

This normal case has her searching for a missing wife. She feels vibes off of people and believes the husband is guilty. As she researches him, more evidence piles up making him look guilty. In the meantime Reyes is still mad at Charley for her actions in the previous book. It is fun watching them banter/argue with each other. In the end, Reyes is seen in a different light, Charley has powers she didn't know about and her family is really concerned for her future. bring on book 4

message 83: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24484 comments Hi Teresa - the book has to be on the list to read it. You can’t use the series substitution rule for option 1.

It looks to me as if your second question is ok, using Stacie’s book she read in the last 6 months and rated at least 3 stars, assuming Stacie is on your team.

I’m on my phone today and can’t get in to check teams and threads.

message 84: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24484 comments Teresa - if that is your completion post, you have put it in the wrong thread. Please repost in your team thread.

Also please ensure you have all the elements needed. Eg rating, week number etc

Again- since I’m on my phone I can’t see the post to see if things are missing, but I can’t recall a week # etc..

~KarenH~ | 11416 comments Hey Jane! I just spent a little time looking at the themes and my shelves, and came up with a question.

For option 16. Kids love this game and looking for things.
Read a book that has one of the following items on its cover:
candy, chocolate, cookie, cake, toy, ice-cream, book, electonic gadget (eg phone, laptop) or a playground/amusement park.

Would sports equipment qualify as a toy? I'm thinking football, baseball or bat, hockey stick, etc.

Thanks!

Hi Karen - I'll add a 'ball' to the list. I don't want to get into serious sport equipment but kids look for their 'balls' all the time :D

Jane (PS) | 24484 comments Week 4

Option 1
15. Gingerbread men are used as the tokens/markets to move around the board.
Read a book from one of the following lists:
Ginger Women: Redheaded Heroine in Romance
Redheaded Romance Heroes
MM Redheads and Gingers
Historical Romance Red Headed Heroine or Hero
Redheaded Heroines in Contemporary Romance

These are compulsory lists. Your selected book MUST come from one of these lists. You must link to the list and note which page/which number it is on that list.

Option 2

I've added it but I won't use it.

The problem with your rule is that there is no way to know a character's hair color until you begin listening to it. As I started this book for another challenge, they said her hair color almost immediately, but it's not on the list.

Anyway, I will chose a different book

message 92: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12307 comments Hi Jane!

I think this is allowed, but I just want to make sure.
If a team mate read a book before the allowed cut off for using option 2, but read another in the series during the allowed time, can I use the same book that she read earlier, but use the series rule for the current book and read the older title?

message 93: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24484 comments Yes, you can Fran :) that series rule is extremely convenient!!

message 94: by Fran, Moderator (new)

message 95: by Mary-Megan (new)

Mary-Megan | 2325 comments *Jane -
Just to clarify about being behind...We're allowed to be behind by one book, right? I'm still working on my week 3 book, but I've already completed weeks 1, 2, and 4, completely ready to tackle week 5. I'm not going to finish week 3 until sometime next week because I'm listening to an audiobook and only have so many opportunities to get it done. Even though I'm doing the audiobook, I'm still able to work on the current theme because I do multiple books at the same time. Am I still okay to continue with the challenge? There was a little confusion where my captain thought we only could be one week behind. I thought it was just one book, regardless of how long it takes - as long as it gets done. If you could clarify, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

Yes - that's fine Mary-Megan. Doesn't matter which weeks the books that remain outstanding are from, you can not be more than 2 books behind. So one book from week 3 is fine :)

message 97: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24484 comments Week 5

Option 1
9. Lord Licorice is the baddie in this game.
Read a book where the author's name or the title of the book is written in black on the cover. Must be a solid black type, not just the outline of the letters.

(It doesn't matter the thickness of the type ~ just that it is black.)

Option 2
Key date: 7 April 2017

Please ensure you follow the format shown in msg 3 of your team threads. when you post your selection and completion posts.

message 98: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24484 comments I have no idea what time it is - I think I'm about an hour early with the post? but maybe everyone has moved on/off daylight savings...? Anyway, I'm travelling so answers to questions may be a little tardy, but I will get to them :)

message 99: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11416 comments You're correct, Jane...about an hour early, but nobody is complaining! =)

In the US we change away from daylight savings to standard time the first weekend of November...most of us anyway. There are a few lucky areas that don't participate, and I wish my state was one of them!

message 100: by Mary-Megan (new)

Mary-Megan | 2325 comments Quick question -
Most versions of the book I want to do for this theme have the title in black - the paperback, Kindle edition, etc. However, the only copy my library has is the large print with a different cover and the title is not in black. Can I still use it?
The typical cover is : Discovering You (Whiskey Creek, #10) by Brenda Novak and this is the cover my book has: Discovering You (Whiskey Creek, #10) by Brenda Novak
