Quite often actually. And the word 'grovel' is literally used and you'll laugh your ass off too. It has romance and even mystery and intrigue. I highly recommend them. The first book is: Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger

Pamela Love | 1510 comments The Warrior's Apprentice by Lois McMaster Bujold. (Hero grovels to more than one woman, actually, although he's only in love with one.) It's science fiction, and a great book. The Warrior's Apprentice

Sorry, just noticed you said "recent and contemporary"--does that mean the book should be set in the present day?

Gail Carriger's books, while set in a "historical" setting are very funny and are actually more paranormal steampunk than anything else (werewolves and ghosts and mad scientists, oh my.) Also vampires, but vampires with a twist. (Very few female vampires, and all of them are Queens and it's the females who are the only ones able to make more vampires.)

Er, can we all guess who has read everything that Gail's written? And I've enjoyed it all too. :o)

But don't expect anything even remotely like normal history--except for Queen Victoria, of course. What proper Steampunk novel would miss out on Her Royal Majesty?

Lola | 20 comments cool you remember historical books and even comment them, but it's not these books that I'm asking on the topic.
