Vintagebooklvr | 47 comments This book was new when I read it in the mid to late 1980s and it was targeted for young adults. I think it was about kids growing up, trying to find themselves and what they wanted to do with their lives, etc. I'm not sure if most of the novel took place on Cape Cod or not but the scene I remember is rescuing stranded whales or dolphins on the beach which may have been near the end of the book. One of the characters who was a free spirit ends up joining a few others who make this their mission.

Any chance the location is Australia (e.g., Stranded by Ann Coleridge - 73 pages, illustrated)?

There are multiple cover images, for example:

Vintagebooklvr | 47 comments No that's not it. I'm 95% it is the Northeast U.S. if it isn't Cape Cod. But thanks for the comment.

Vintagebooklvr | 47 comments I don't think so, though it sounds like something I would enjoy reading.

The character who ends up joining the people who rescue marine life is a guy. If I remember correctly, they don't have much money but they travel around in station wagon and may even have to sleep in it sometimes when they are rescuing the mammals. There isn't much detail about it because the guy decides to join these animal rescuers at the end of the book.

The reason I'm pretty sure it takes place in Cape Cod or at least is the Northeast, U.S. is because I'm from there and I seem to remember reading it and thinking I know this area they are describing because I've been there.

It was a hardcover book (at least a library binding) if that helps any.

Vintagebooklvr, are you still looking for this or did you find it?

AquaMoon (aqua_moon) | 12 comments Possibly A Ring of Endless Light? It's been forever since I read it, but I do remember dolphins.

Also, I think there may be a part about a dolphin rescue in The Tide Knot
