I don't know why, but for some reason, I started Winter's Bone by Daniell Woodrell by reading it aloud and as soon as I did, the words rolled right off my tongue and I was hooked on it.....
Two come to mind immediately. The Martian
The book I'm reading right now has the funniest first chapter I think I've ever read. I even read it out loud to my husband. The Deepest Grave
I got hooked on the JOANNA BRADY series by J. A. Jance right from the first book. To date I have read all of them. Not crazy about the narrator that was chosen for the Joanna Brady series. Got hooked on the AMELIA PEABODY series when I heard Barbara Rosenblatt narrate CROCODILE ON THE SANDBANK. No one can replace her as narrator of this series. They tried, but it wasn't the same. Now I have my daughter hooked on Amelia and Company. These two series are just a fraction of the series I love. I love C. S. Harris's SEBASTIAN ST. CYR books, Deanna Raybourne's VICTORIA SPEEDWELL series. Standalone books depends on the author.
I really enjoyed reading Joni Dee's book; And The Wolf Shall Dwell. It's an exciting Thriller that definitely packs a punch. Well worth a read.
A recent one that really surprised me, and grabbed me from the first chapter, is 'The Cry' by Helen Fitzgerald. It had a clean, taut style and a plot that kept me guessing until the very end. I'd definitely recommend it.
These days with so many addicted to Social Media I can really see this happening, so for me it was ~Free to Fall
Storm Front, Furies of Calderon and The Aeronaut's Windlass all by Jim Butcher. All are fantasy novels but each is in a different sub genre of fantasy.Storm Front is urban fantasy. Furies of Calderon is J.R.R. Tolkien-style epic high swords-and-sorcery fantasy and The Aeronaut's Windlass is steampunk.
Jeffrey Archer's 'Mightier Than the Sword'. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2....I've never yet read a book by him that didn't hook me instantly.

i'm not as big a fan of his as you, but I believe he's a great writer.
Don't Dump the Dog - Fantastic book!!!
As far as a thriller goes: Fractured (How I love the Will Trent series!)

. Though I have not posted my reviews of these books as of yet; I will say I read all three within about three weeks. Great reads.
FUROUS by T.R. Ragan. I have been telling all my book reading pals about it. Last night, I was sharing the love with my girls and sister. OMGOsh........fast read......could not put it down..........then read the 2nd book and ordered the third. I love bedtime and naptime.
The Book Thief was probably the last one. The Heckenburg series by Paul Finch all worked for me as well.
This book hooked me from the first chapter and now I have been hooked through the whole series of books!
by Graeme RodaughanHighly recommend this series!
The book I’ve finished just recently “The Couple Next Door” really didn’t expect it to catch me straight from the beginning
I just finished reading The Escape Room by Megan Goldin. Its not your typical murder mystery thriller, but it was quite good. Please check out my review on my blog:

Triptych by Karin Slaughter. Was the first book I'd read of hers, and wow. I was hooked from the first few sentences
