Veronica (readingonthefly) | 1631 comments I've read the first two books in the Shades of Magic trilogy. Hope you enjoy the last book. You'll be able to mark a series as finished!

Awesome list, Allison! Hope you're loving the Cormoran Strike series. This is a good one. Are you reading or listening?

I'm a big fan of the BBC Sherlock series. Are you enjoying the book series?

Allison (rainy-day-reads) I'm loving the Cormoran Strike series! I'm reading - haven't caught onto audio books yet. :)

The Sherlock Holmes series is just ok. If I read them as classics and remember that they're some of the earliest detective stories, they're good. But they lack... something. I definitely enjoy the BBC series much more, and find that other modern retellings have more depth.

I skipped ahead to Hound of the Baskervilles and will probably stop there. Maybe now I can get back to the Mary Russell series without feeling like I'm missing something.

Allison (rainy-day-reads) I finished The White Gryphon. I'm kind of disappointed - first it skipped ahead 10 years and missed a whole lot of potentially interesting story, and then it wasn't nearly at the same level as the first book.

Allison (rainy-day-reads) Finished Career of Evil, and loved it. That ending! I can't wait to see what will happen in the next one.

I also finished The Midnight Rose. I've read this author once before so was somewhat prepared for a heavy, tragic ending in at least one of the timelines. It's one of those dual-time Gothic stories that doesn't end well for all involved. I don't read this type often because they tend to weigh me down. So now I'm in search of something really light to cheer me back up!
