Good point. I feel so frustrated by this book. Like it has potential to be good but doesn't quite make it, and things like this are part of the reason why.

I found it irritating from the outset. It's poorly written, and, as is evident here, sloppily structured, and yet it's covered in endorsements from the great and the good. It even had a 'Sunday Times Best Seller' flag on the cover from day 1! I left it in a hotel room in Belize - unfinished !

It doesn't really have an ending anyway, so you didn't miss much.

Obviously she needed to go away to think, but why did she not tell him, to avoid triggering a nationwide search-- or is this simply a plot device?
