Incentive for all? I hope so.
Happy reading!

I think audiobooks should count for the reason you stated - a lot of people listen to books on their commute, in the car, etc. Also, for the relay race challenge, I just gave guidance that page count for audiobooks should be the page count for the most popular edition. It's been working out well so far!
My only hesitance with using words count over page count, if we start doing that, is that page count is readily available and easy to see on the goodreads website, whereas word count people would have to look up. Maybe there's an easy way to find itthat I'm not aware of?
I am personally not counting anything but books that could be considered novels, aka no short stories, no comics, etc. But I didn't specify so everyone is welcome to count whatever they choose! This is for fun, after all, AND the first time we're doing this so we can always change for next time/incorporate everyone's feedback.
As for books/house and books/reader.... Allegra you just gave me an idea. What if the top 7 readers per house were assigned to that House's Quidditch team? Aka person who has read the most books is "seeker", then second is "keeper", next three are "chasers", then last two are "beaters". Rest are... alternates? fans? haha

SLYTHERIN

The Quidditch team thing is a super fun idea. I like that! I think maybe next time there should be a minimum page count for books. Especially when it comes to graphic novels. :)
This is the first time I've ever actively participated in a challenge and I'm having loads of fun!

It's right there in post number 10, and Kasey answered in post 11, no minimum page count.
So you can"t really blame me for being a Ravenclaw and use that loophole in the rules. ;)

Comics can have some great story lines. Ex: Claremont's X-Men. ☺

Rules is rules, Mimi, do your thing. ☺

Or Alan Moore's Watchmen. Or Neil Gaiman's Sandman - The DreamHunters... (Although I did read the novel version of the last one, not the comic ;) )
And burried between all the manga and short stories are some 'real' books too, I promise. I could recommend Gaskell's "North and South" to everyone, it's a great novel.
And if I came across as a bit defensive, I appologize. I had a rotten day at work (and had to trudge through another 700 pages of bone-dry technical texts that I can't add to my GR total...) I felt personally attacked, even though no-one probably ment it that way).
Maybe another point of redemption: none of the books I read this month are in my native tongue.. ;)

I promise I wasn't trying to personally attack anyone! Sorry you had such a rotten day. Maybe tomorrow will be an improvement.

I didn't mean to attack anyone, just inspire.

Indiana Jones and the Seven Veils
August 17, 2017
Gryffindor!
P.S. I love Indiana Jones and I do not recommend this book. ☹

I've read six of the Indiana Jones series and have affectionately labeled them all "crack" because I know they're awful, but I love the character. Too much to dislike in this book, though. I rated it two stars and my review is not complementary. ☹

This brings to mind a number of questions. Should page count override word count? I'd submit it shouldn't, because the length of a work may change with its format even though the word count remains the same. For instance, I found a short story listed on Goodreads as twenty something pages as a .pdf of nearly half as many pages.
Also, some works, like graphic novels, may have twenty pages, but few words if the artists chose to rely more on the graphics and less on the prose. So, you might only actually be reading a couple dozen words. There are several Wolverine comics like that in my collection.
Should audio books count? You're not actually reading an audio book, you're listening to someone talk, but this might be the only way a busy person would be able to "read" a book.
But, this contest is only for fun, right? Though my competitive streak is annoyed by the unfairness, I remind myself it's just for fun and, ultimately, we're here to celebrate and share our enjoyment of reading. (Typed on my phone!)
