MountainKat | 31597 comments Let's reflect on the best and worst of the previous month's books.....

I know I can get so focused on what is next that I forget about all the wonderful books I read for the previous month's challenges! August 1st? How did that happen?! School is starting soon for so many - new clothes, new backpacks, new school supplies! Does this mean more reading time for you or less? The fall was always crazy busy in our house! Between band, cheer and football - our weekends were full! But I always found some time during the day to read! How about you? Are you ready for school to start or enjoying every last day of summer?

Did you find some gems last month? DNF a few? Find your new book boyfriend or a heroine who personifies TSTL? Come on, we all want to know! What were your standouts for July? What's on your horizon for August?

MountainKat | 31597 comments Wow - I had four 5 Star reads last month!! And several that were very close to 5 as well - I can't remember a month like that!

These were my 5 Star books:
Silver Silence by Nalini Singh - I love this series and this was another great one!
The Day of the Duchess by Sarah MacLean - This was just wonderful!
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling - Making my way through this series in audio and loving it all over again!
Lost and Found Sisters by Jill Shalvis - Wow! More than just a romance, so many relationships and they were all delightful! So glad this is going to become a series!

My other standouts:
Brighter Than the Sun by Maya Banks - Great to visit the Kelly clan again!
Egomaniac by Vi Keeland - This just made me happy!
Worth Forgiving by Vi Keeland - Another good one, glad to have wrapped up the series!
Third Grave Dead Ahead by Darynda Jones - I'm really enjoying this series!

The low spot in my month was Pride Mates by Jennifer Ashley for the FAC. It wasn't bad, just not as good as her historicals. I may read more in the series if they pop up for me. So, if that was the low - it wasn't too bad!

There was no bad books this month but these books I was really looking forward to reading and they were just okay
The Never Never Sisters by L. Alison Heller The Traitor's Wife The Woman Behind Benedict Arnold and the Plan to Betray America by Allison Pataki The Identicals by Elin Hilderbrand

Oh, that's good to know about Psy-Changeling, MountainKat. I have the first in that series on my TBR (well, on a past M&G round), but I haven't gotten around to starting it yet. Glad to hear it's going strong and still popular.

I found/find the audios are easier for me in this series, this was back when my reading was more ebooks than audio. It is a complex world and they were easier for me to follow and it didn't hurt that the narrator does an excellent job! It didn't take long until I was completely hooked and now I wait for the new ones to come out. =)

Fran | 12278 comments July was a slow reading month for me. I read two books, both of which were good, not great. Both were fun though, and I needed some light, cute reads :)

Party of Three (Sunday Night Dinner Club, #1) by Jess Dee , Prime Minister (Frisky Beavers, #1) by Ainsley Booth

MountainKat | 31597 comments I understand how that goes - light and fluffy hits the spot sometimes! =)

~Teresa | 352 comments I had three 5 star reads in July ~ Summer Rental by Mary Kay Andrews , The Keeper of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan and Third Grave Dead Ahead (Charley Davidson, #3) by Darynda Jones .

The two four star were What Makes a Family by Colleen Faulkner and Lift and Separate A Novel by Marilyn Simon Rothstein .

Loved The Keeper of Lost Things and will probably reread it at some point and the Darynda Jones series is just laugh out loud funny, quirky and pure entertainment. A good month overall.

I think they are great. Wish I had found them sooner! Now I'm making up for lost time by trying to fit them in to challenges every month! Hehe

MountainKat | 31597 comments The nice thing about being 'late to the party' is that we don't have to wait for new releases! I just started that series a several months ago myself.

Connie N. | 1316 comments As you might expect, continuing series were my faves this month:

5 stars - Top Secret Twenty-One (Stephanie Plum, #21) by Janet Evanovich Promises in Death (In Death, #28) by J.D. Robb Kindred in Death (In Death, #29) by J.D. Robb Devil to Pay (Night Huntress, #3.5) by Jeaniene Frost

But a bonus was the audiobook written and narrated by Trevor Noah. First of all he's funny. (In case you don't know him, he took over from Jon Stewart on The Daily Show.) And secondly, he grew up with a fascinating life as a mixed child living with apartheid.

4.5 stars - Born a Crime Stories From a South African Childhood by Trevor Noah

Not sure if you're reading or listening, but the audiobooks are well done, narrated by Lorelei King.

Whitney (xobooktrovert) I actually read five 5 star books last month! So it was a pretty good month for me! :)

Barbarian's Rescue - 7/1 ✩✩✩✩✩
The Darkest Sunrise - 7/14 ✩✩✩✩✩
Bad Penny - 7/22 ✩✩✩✩✩
Fiercely Emma - 7/28 ✩✩✩✩✩
Beauty and the Mustache - 7/30 ✩✩✩✩✩

Surviving Raine (7/7 ✩✩) was the most disappointing book for me. I have heard wonderful things about both the book and the author, but it just wasn't for me.

Barbarian's Rescue (Ice Planet Barbarians, #15) by Ruby Dixon The Darkest Sunrise (The Darkest Sunrise, #1) by Aly Martinez Bad Penny by Staci Hart Fiercely Emma (Cake Series Book Three) by J. Bengtsson Beauty and the Mustache (Knitting in the City, #4) by Penny Reid Surviving Raine (Surviving Raine, #1) by Shay Savage

message 15: by Robin (new)

Robin (robinmy) I had one 5-Star book in July: Home (Myron Bolitar #11) by Harlan Coben Home by Harlan Coben. This was the lastest book in his Mickey Bolitar series and the best.

Yes, they are! The narrator adds so much to these stories!
