Andrea | 2163 comments If you could, is there a book that you would like to read again, for the first time? Just to experience the joy of discovery, or to evoke the same feelings, as on the first outing?

One that pops into my mind is The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton. Such a great story, with vivid, sparkling characters! I was aware of the inventive structure before I read it, and honestly it went over my head, but I still really enjoyed the experience of reading that book.

Ronan's Echo by Joanne van Os has remained in my mind since I read it on its release early 2014 so that would definitely be one for me :)

Li'l Owl | 2504 comments Nice thread, Andrea!

I read a quite a few tenish years ago that I'm really enjoying the second time. Just in the past several months I started 're-reading' *audio books*

The Woman's Murder Club series written by Maxine Paetro published under James Patterson

1st to Die (Women's Murder Club, #1) by James Patterson 1st to Die,
2nd Chance (Women's Murder Club, #2) by James Patterson 2nd Chance
3rd Degree (Women's Murder Club, #3) by James Patterson 3rd Degree
4th of July (Women's Murder Club, #4) by James Patterson 4th of July
Currently I'm listening to
The 5th Horseman (Women's Murder Club, #5) by James Patterson The 5th Horseman

But, oh gosh, I have many in my library of books that I read at least 30+ years ago that I would love to read again! =o)

Leonie (leonierogers) | 3564 comments The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe - just the wonder of reading my first real fantasy.

Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments I think each of the following books have made the biggest marks on me for different reasons.

Ice Station
Scarecrow
Black Sunday
The Silence of the Lambs
The Exorcist
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Flowers for Algernon

The one thing that all the books above have in common is that they've gotten better for me upon revisiting them, whether its re-reading them in their entirety or looking back at certain passages or chapters.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Fantastic idea for a thread, Andrea. I am thinking about my favourites to re-read as I have quite a few of them.

That adds another dimension to the discussion, too. One of my favourite novels - ever - is Bel Canto. In fact, I refer to it in my GR profile. But I've only read it once. There have been times I've been tempted to read it again, but I'm really afraid that it might not deliver the magic second time round.

I think it all depends on where you're at and how much you've changed since then. It may or may not deliver the magic the second time round. If it doesn't, I wouldn't exclude the possibility of it having an impact on the third or fourth reading if you still want to come back to it. It's happened to me before with some of my favourite films where whatever the film lost on its second or third viewing, it suddenly gained back upon further viewings and then some.

Thrilled that this is one of your favourites Andrea. It's in one of my TBR piles (have 6 actual piles of new books that i haven't read yet), must hunt for it & put it on my fall list :)
