Into the Fire (Night Prince, #4) by Jeaniene Frost

"Flying at high speeds through a forest is less dangerous than it looks. At least, that's what I told myself the few times I opened my eyes."

Time for a smexy vampire story.

message 303: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments Surprised how many folks are interested in the first lines of The Leavers :-) haven't made much progress, only 30 pages or so as I've been v. busy but so far enjoying it...

message 304: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments For those of you who were intrigued by The Leavers's first few lines, it's well worth the read. It has a lot going for it - POC, immigrant, growing up, finding oneself, family, community, life in the U.S. - a lot, but well done. I enjoyed it - 4 stars.

short, clear sentences - i like it.

message 307: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I just remembered that I didn't post the opening lines to the book I started a few days ago, so here they are:
Katherine Katherine by Anya Seton by Anya Seton
"In the tender green time of April, Katherine set forth at last upon her journey with the two nuns and the royal messenger.
The invisible sun had scarcely risen as they quitted the little convent of Sheppey, and guiding the horses westward towards the Kentish mainland, rode gingerly down the steep hill".

This book has been amazing so far and if it continues in the same vein, it could well be one of my favourite reads of the year.

message 308: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments Katherine sounds interesting, Lisa, and one that appeals to me. Added.

Margo, the short, clear sentences are a refreshing change to some of the run-on sentences I've encountered lately. I'm really enjoying this book.

I'm intrigued by yours Janice too.

It was a quick and fun read, perfect for a toppler. It's a different take on the whole Paranormal Fantasy. I'll read more of the series.

I would recommend Battle Royale, if you enjoyed that serie. It's the original japanese book (or at least the basic story is very similar), I must warn you, though, is not for the soft hearted

message 318: by Jake (new)

Jake Newman | 91 comments I’ll have to try it out, I like books that make me emotional, that’s when you know it’s a good book.

It's a Vonnegut book through and through. If you aren't a fan of his style, I would not recommend it to you
