Sounds interesting! added.
I am sure someone has posted this before but I didn't see it. "It was a dark and stormy night."
Until today, when I picked up my brand new copy of A Wrinkle in Time, I had not remembered which book that line was from. It has been over 50 years, since I first met Meg and Calvin, and Charles Wallace. I decided it was time for a re-read for my yearly challenge.
I'm starting Tomorrow
by Damian Dibben"It began, this journey of many lifetimes, in an ordinary way: he and I went to pick oysters on the shore."
Janice wrote: "I had to read the blurb, Lisa. It sounds interesting."It does! The cover initially caught my eye and the blurb sealed the deal for me. It fits several tasks in the yearly challenge too.
I have just started Melmoth
by Sarah Perry"My dear Dr Pražan-
How deeply I regret that I must put this document in your hands, and so make you the witness to what I have done!"

Hello Lisa. I read this book last year and loved it. It is featured on my blog (don’t worry, no spoilers) https://glanceabook.blog/2018/11/10/m...

I wonder how it will compare to her book The Essex Serpent. I added Melmoth to my wishlist because I enjoyed Sarah Perry's writing.
"It started at one thirty on a cold Tuesday morning in January when Martin Turner, street performer and, in his own words, apprentice gigolo, tripped over a body in front of the East Portico of St Paul's in Covent Garden."Rivers of London

So far, I'm enjoying it about the same as The Essex Serpent. It's very atmospheric and has a similar gothic feel. It's mainly set in Prague which is an added bonus for me as it's one of my favourite cities. I think the story is going to turn out to be quite a bit darker than TES though.
I have had Rivers of London on my TBR for a long time. I do want to read it, I do! Oh, look - I just added it to my yearly challenge.
I've just started The Labyrinth of the Spirits
by Carlos Ruiz Zafón"That night I dreamed that I was going back to the Cemetery of Forgotten Books. I was ten years old again, and again I woke up in my old bedroom feeling that the memory of my mother's face had deserted me."
"A fly got in the house on monday. it's sunday and he's still around bouncing from room to room like he's the family pet. I never had a pet before - they don't let convicted murders have pets in the group home."Allegedly

You're right - very reminiscent of Rebecca. I'm really looking forward to this book.

I'm just starting The Binding
by Bridget Collins"When the letter came I was out in the fields, binding up my last sheaf of wheat with hands that were shaking so much I could hardly tie the knot."

I like this!
Peggy wrote: ""I lost an arm on my last trip home."Kindred"
Now that got my attention! Can't wait to start.
Once Upon a River"Along the borders of this world lie others. There are places you can cross. This is one such place. "

It's really good! Both the first line and the book so far.

Nice! I have that one on my wishlist.

I think you'd like it peggy - as would janice, cherie and lisa. It is a mellow story that meanders and diverts like the river but never loses interest.

This is on my wishlist. I may have to bump it up a bit as I really like the opening.
I'm going to go for the longest line ever."When Issac and I met at the university, we both pretended that the campus and the streets of the capital were as familiar to us as the dirt paths of the rural villages we had grown up and lived in until only a few months earlier, even though neither of us had ever been to a city before and had no idea what it meant to live in such close proximity to so many people whose faces, much less names, we would never know."
All Our Names
I would already almost give up on that one.. much too long for my liking. If the whole book is like that, I don't think I would finish.

Way too long for my poor brain Rus. Now The Dreamers I like buy I was a bit iffy about The Age of Miracles - which has disappeared from my audible library BTW! Don't care enough to investigate though :-/

I own it already, but I took on more audiobooks than I can swallow at the moment. I have so many books coming up on the movie challenge, that I cannot figure out which one I want to read next. And then there are the buddy reads and the monthly challenge. I am drowning in books.

What a way to go 😄

I'm reading The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle
by Stuart Turton"I forget everything between footsteps."
I have the Seven deaths on audiobook but haven't got around to it yet. Great first line. Sounds as if it might sum up the whole book?
Margo wrote: "Way too long for my poor brain Rus. My audible library automatically filters by purchases in the last six months, which catches me out sometimes.

My libraries are probably swamped too - but I'm currently in denial... which is why I just added The Story Keeper to the list. A story set on the Isle of Skye. Cool. (Thanks Lisa)
Couldn't resist posting this one, first line from Beartown:"Late one evening towards the end of March, a teenager picked up a double-barrelled shotgun, walked into the forest, put the gun to someone else's forehead, and pulled the trigger.
This is the story of how we got there."
