Anna Mazzola is a writer of historical crime or Gothic fiction. Her debut novel, The Unseeing, won an Edgar Award in the US and was nominated for the Historical Writers Association Debut Crown in the UK. The Times called it 'sizzling'. The Mirror described it as 'a brilliant debut.’

Her second novel, a dark fairy tale about a collector of folklore and missing girls on the Isle of Skye, is out now and has been listed for the Highland Book Prize. The Sunday Mirror says it 'casts its own profound brand of dark magic.'

The only way you can really learn how to write is to read a lot, and write a lot. And then be brave enough to submit your work to the outside world, and keep submitting it even in the face of rejection. I don't know a single published author who hasn't been repeatedly rejected at some stage in their career. Keep going. (less)

One returned briefly and claimed she had been taken by fairies.

I've transplanted the story to the Isle of Skye and turned it into something completely different: the tale of a collector of folklore who learns that a young girl has disappeared. (less)

Hi there. I'm afraid I don't have a US publisher for The Story Keeper, so no e-book is available. Obviously I wish it was! You can order a paper copy from Book Depository, if that's any use. Best wishes, Anna

“She is very clever, your Miss Gale. She knows what to say to convince a man and she has evidently worked her sorcery on you. I assume she has manufactured a story to make you sympathize with her. Stories, Mr. Fleetwood, are dangerous things." He pointed to the walls around them. "That is precisely why we ensure that there are no stories here: no novels, no fiction. Only clinical texts, religious tracts, and, of course, the Bible.”
