Welcome everyone! I am excited to see our Book and Movie Group continue to grow and diversify! We all come from different places, yet we are brought together through good literature and their on screen adaptations. Isn’t technology incredible? (:

Please feel free to ADD me and other group members as well. This way we can get to know each other better and become a close knit community. Plus I love seeing what you’re reading so I can add new book titles to my ever growing “To Be Read” list!

message 153: by Rabia (new)

Rabia Khan | 4 comments Hi, I'm Rabia! I'm a 22 year old, MA Documentary Film graduate. I've always loved reading books more than watching films if I'm honest, but I've always been a slow reader so I seemed to start books and then not finish them for months :(

I'm currently on book 6 of the Harry Potter series. I've some how managed to stay away from all the spoilers all these years and I hadn't seen the films either so watching each film after reading each book has been a lovely experience.

I like to read almost anything, especially if the book has a film/TV series based on it, so this group seems perfect for me! I look forward to reading with you guys :)

message 154: by Marissa (new)

Marissa Jean | 3 comments Hi, I'm Marissa! I'm 21 years old, and am getting my B.S. in Global Business with a minor in Italian. I grew up and live in Florida, but am currently studying abroad in Italy. I have loved reading books/watching movies since before I can remember, but sadly, none of my friends share this interest(reading). Have all this free time and am looking for inspo. for new books/movies to read. Looking forward to all the new reads :)

message 157: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (lizallonsy) | 3 comments Hey guys, I'm Elizabeth. I'm from LA. I'm currently on my last year of college I'm a Sociology major with a minor in Chicano Studies. I enjoy reading and want to read many genres but end up reading the same. The book that got me into reading was The Hunger Games and I'm currently reading the Harry Potter series for the first time.

message 158: by Jose (new)

Jose | 1 comments Hello everyone! I'm Jose. I'm 27 years old. I graduated college in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in Information Systems. Currently working on a masters in IT Management.

I used to read a lot as a kid. Dwindled down as a teenager as I dove more into sports and video games. During that time I read through all the Harry Potter books and loved watching the movie adaptations. That's what lead me to here. I prefer to watch the movies first then the books due to the books being better 9/10 times.

In the past couple years I've increasingly started reading again. I visited libraries more and remembered how much I loved books. Usually it's overwhelming. I just visited Powell's bookstore in Portland, Oregon. Wandered for hours! Just picked up "Dragon's Teeth" by Michael Crichton. I mainly read historical military, outdoor and ocean (scuba diving, whales, etc) nonfiction books. However, I like to mix it up with a good fictional book. Normally a well known classic or popular.

message 159: by Leya (new)

Leya | 3 comments Hi everyone! My name is Lea, I`m 18 yo, from Italy and currently finishing school...this is probably just me avoiding work and procastinating, but this group looked so interesting, I had to join it!
I read a lot of Fiction/Fantasy but I easily get into pretty much every book I start to read, so it`s not really a preferred genre more like a go-to genre...As for the movies, I do prefer historical ones, but again, I don`t really mind trying new things!

message 163: by Julius (new)

Julius | 4 comments Julius Bramley. Born and live in Africa. Of North Sea heritage. I e all countries bordering on that sea. I live now in a small rural village in Free State, South Africa, with much history around. From prehistory to current. I started reading as a young person mainly because I had no one to talk to at that time. I have not stopped. I was ignorant of works well translated to the screen till I discovered Jane Austen "Pride and Prejudice" and since I have been drawn to reading the book on which a movie is based and vice versa. Confession: I did see the earlier "James Bond" movies and read those Ian Flemming books. However. I like rereading books and re watching movies: even different versions of a book. Doing so gives me insight both into the mind of the author, the screenwriter, the production designer director and the actors. Much pleasure. Doing so has led me to philosophy and poetry which has widened my interest and underlined how deficient my education was.

message 164: by Krys (new)

Krys (briarroses) | 1 comments Hiya folks!
I'm Joy, new to the social aspect of Goodreads but trying to reach out to avid readers like myself. I recently pruned my shelves so I could start fresh, which is why they're practically barren right now.
I live in Canada and started my first semester of university this past winter! I'm still undeclared, but I plan to major in English and if my GPA remains high enough, enter into honours with a focus in creative writing. I love writing stories even more than I love reading them. :)
While fantasy and science-fiction are my favourite genres, I'm trying to branch out into all types. Presently, I'm on a Stephen King fix.
Looking forward to following everyone's reads. :)

leo | 1 comments Hi folks, I'm Leo and new on this website. I am 22, from Germany and so glad that I just found goodreads. Currently I am part-time studying and part-time working.

Just like everyone else here, I am a huge bookworm. Above that I also enjoy doing sports, taking photos, hiking in our beautiful nature, travelling, cooking and learning new stuff - like for example languages.

My passion about reading started when I was 5 and teaching myself how to read. Since that I am reading books as often as possible. I also don't have a favourite genre, i'm pretty much open to any book that exists.

Again, I am glad to meet you all on goodreads!

message 171: by Claire (new)

Claire Bassetti | 1 comments Hi Everyone,
My name is Claire Bassetti. I am currently finnishing my sophomore year of college. I am a communication major with a focus on advertising, marketing, and public relations! I also have a minor in Health Communication. As a college student-athlete my time is split between soccer, studies, reading, and occasionally watching the newest jersey shore or Greys Anatomy.
I currently am reading Still Alice which has been an amazing and emotional book. I love getting suggestions on books and wish my college had a book club. I'm glad I at least have an online platform like Goodreads to be able to share my love for reading.

Thanks!

message 172: by Hurt (new)

Hurt Vonnegut (hurtvonnegut) | 3 comments Hi, I'm Marina I live in Denver and I'm 27 years old. I am a sucker for teen novels and young adult books but will always switch it up from time to time. I just finished Wonder and it is literally my new favorite story ever. Luckily my job as a Bank Teller gives me time to catch up on a lot of reading! Currently going to school for Public Relations and Cinema Studies so I'm pretty excited to be apart of this group.

message 173: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Hi everybody, I'm Susy, Portuguese but living in the Netherlands. I've been on GR for some years now, but only started to use it actively last year and then became addicted.
Next to reading I love to watch movies and series, although I should do less of both and enjoy other activities I like, like dancing, photography, meeting with friends etc.

I have all of 2018 booked up where reads are concerned, so this year I'll probably only join if it coincides with a read I have planned (or if I can't resist lol).

Looking forward to meeting you all! Happy reading & watching!

message 177: by Rohit (new)

Rohit (rohitraut) | 58 comments Hi guys,

I am Rohit from Mumbai, India. I am 26 and I work as a Graphic Designer. My affair with movies started back in 2010 when I was in my first-year 'Bachelors in animation' class. I didn't watch Hollywood movies till then and my classmates would often chat about these films and I couldn't participate in the discussion because of lack of knowledge. This inspired me to start watching Hollywood films and then I became a big movie buff. I watched 100s of movies since then. I love almost all genres expect love stories.

I loved Robert Downey Jrs sherlock holmes movie so much that I started reading Sherlock Holmes books. I read all 9 books in 2012 and since then I became a reading fan as well. I hope to post much in this group and I am glad to find fellow movie lovers around.

Hello Robin, welcome to our group. I am also in a similar situation like yours. I started reading in 2012 and read a lot of books in couple of years. I dont know what happened later, maybe movies, games and Tv shows made me lose interest in books. I didnt read a single book in the next 4 years, but now i am also finding some inspiration to read books and continue doing it.

message 186: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianefe) Hi all, I’m Diane.
I’m currently a PhD student studying biochemistry. My research focuses on studying vector-host interactions in vector insects. I have an MS in chemistry and a BS in biochem and in cell/molecular bio. I just recently moved to Virginia but am originally from California. I was born and raised in the SF Bay Area and lived in Northern California for 5 years.
My absolute favorite book genre is any kind of dystopian novel and I love YA books. I also generally enjoy fantasy, sci fi, mystery, suspense/thriller books. My movie preferences align with that just about exactly.
I’ve found it difficult lately to find time to dedicate to reading since I always feel like I could be doing something *more productive* in the sense that I have so many other things I really need to do that I don’t always feel like I can justify doing the things I want to do... for this reason I primarily “read” via audiobooks. I can justify it to myself more easily if I’m “reading” while I’m doing another task that doesn’t really use up a lot of brain power and I couldn’t do anything “more productive” in place of it - so I usually listen to my books while cooking, driving, traveling, or while performing mindless tasks in the lab or even as I lay in bed trying to fall asleep (although good books make that harder).
A weird thing about me: I make every effort to read the book (if it’s something I think I’ll want to read) before letting myself watch movie adaptations. This usually means I avoid movies I would probably love but i still think it’s worth the enjoyment of reading the book without the movie bias. I also hate re-reading books (for the most part) - as a child I got too bored since I knew what happened, but I can enjoy it now... I do still feel like my time is probably better spend enjoying something *new* though. I also hate continuing a book series if I don’t remember what happened in previous books (or reading/watching a series out of order- what kind of MONSTER would do that?!). All these weird quirks mean I usually put off reading an entire series until they are all out and then I don’t watch any associated movies/tv until it’s all been out for ages. This tends to really infuriate people around me (I didn’t complete the Harry Potter books/movies until recently - oops) but I just focus on what I will read/watch instead :)

Looking forward to future discussions!
Diane

Have your read Altered Carbon, it's a pretty fun read if you like dystopias and the Netflix series isn't too bad. Its got some holes, but it makes up for it in other ways.

I've really good things about the series but haven't really looked into it! I'm looking for my next book, so I'll definitely check that out! Thanks for the suggestion!
- Any thoughts on how it would be as an audiobook?
