I'll go ahead and start this off- So I'm Max! I'm 21 years old, and last month I graduated college with a Bachelor's in Communication and a minor in Sociology. Though originally from a small town in Washington State, I moved to Southern California to pursue my education and haven't looked back.

It was my second year at college when I met Adriana; we were introduced through a mutual friend, and immediately we hit it off. The rest is history! We both love learning and are both interested in a great many topics; from literature, philosophy and politics to music, science and pop culture. We have been able to use this mutual passion to help each other evolve and grow :)

I have loved reading books since before I can remember, though high school and college tried their best to make me hate it. That's why now we have decided to bring reading back into our lives in a big way! As for other hobbies, I also love drawing, writing, playing guitar, and watching great movies.

Through this book club I hope to expand my horizons, learning more about the world and the dizzying varieties of people in it. I also hope to find others who share this goal :)

Hi All! My name is Adriana and I am the second Mod for this group.

About Me: I am also a recent college graduate- I majored in International Business and Philosophy. I enjoy watching movies, journaling, taking polaroids, swimming, hiking, traveling, cooking, and hanging out with Max.

Sooo, lieke, y reading?!: Well, friends, my interest in reading started off when I was very young. As a kid, my dad loved taking me thrift shopping and as he'd look at knick knacks, I'd be glued to the book section. This resulted in my dad owning way too many knick knacks and me owning way too many books.

Alright, alright. Now what about the group?: Glad you asked! After Max and I graduated, we both felt it was very important to continue our personal growth - hence, MILLENNIAL BOOK CLUB (MBC)!!! Here are the (3) main reasons we started the MBC.

1. The obvious- to get back into reading! School can be a soul sucker and I want to take my education back into my own hands.

2. I'm hoping to grow and learn from a diverse group of individuals. So, feel free to comment and voice your opinions. Max and I are very open and enjoy getting to know people.

3. To spark interest in individuals who may not have picked up a book in a while (like us) and don't know what to read or where to start!

So, there you have it folks! Max and I have lots of cool content coming up- stay tuned!

message 4: by Chloe (new)

Chloe Christine Hi, I'm chloe! I just turned 19 and I'm a high school graduate and I love to read books. My love for books started when I was 10 years old. For years I'd told my mom I hate books and I hate reading. And then I read The Magic Treehouse books and I discovered a new world. Can't wait to read amazing books with you guys!

message 5: by Dylan (new)

Dylan Cunningham | 65 comments my name is Dylan I'm 28. I seen you wanted to create a new club after defrancos and I would be glad to join. I like all sorts of books. I just finished my bachelors in film and media and plan to move to Canada next year

message 6: by Dylan (new)

Dylan Cunningham | 65 comments sorry for my short comment I'm doing this off my phone but I love reading from dystopian futures to classic novels and a bit of crime too

Max | 156 comments Mod
It's great to hear from you both! Chloe, congrats on graduating! I'm with you there, the Magic Treehouse series was one of my favorites growing up. I think I read every single one of the books! We're excited about it too :)

And Dylan, congrats on graduating as well! What are you planning to do with your degree? I was almost a film student myself, movies are a passion of mine. We're definitely going to be reading both dystopian stories and classics :)

message 8: by Dylan (new)

Dylan Cunningham | 65 comments great stuff. no sure fire plan right now hoping moving to Canada near more TV and film studios will help clarify what I want to do. what about yourself any direction in mind.

I understand that, I'm in a similar situation... I'm on the job hunt right now and I'm still figuring out what exactly I want to do. My degree was in communication, so there are many ways to take that!

message 10: by Dylan (new)

Dylan Cunningham | 65 comments very true I wish you the best of luck with your hunting. always be open to any jobs I guess don't have your blinders on and set on one sort of job type. I'm sure you don't need advice but the more your open to the more likely you'll find a job you like that you never even thought of going for before.

message 11: by Abigale (new)

Abigale Cheatham Hey guys! I'm Abbie, I graduated in May of 2016 Bachelors of Science in Nursing and have been working as a nurse in critical care ever since. Other than reading, I love traveling both domestically and abroad, riding roller coasters (I'm sort of a coaster nerd), and playing with my black lab, Scout!

Favorite book: Les Misérables
Currently reading: The Windfall

Can't wait to dive into new books with you all! :)

message 12: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (drizztgirl) Hi everyone, I'm Tracy. I have loved reading since I learned how to read way back when. I used to have two bookshelves in my room double stacked with books. It was a sad day when I decided I outgrew most of them. I am 25 and graduated in criminal justice a few years back, now I won't use my degree because I don't like the US's criminal justice system (long story). I will read almost anything. Right now my two main books I'm reading is Battle Royale and Phantom Islanders. Both very good. I'm a huge animal lover and have three pets named after WWE wrestlers. I have a yellow lab puppy named Owen and two gerbils named Balor and Rusev. I am looking forward to this group!

Nice to meet you Abbie and Tracy! :) I see that you both have labs, very jealous!! Love their names!

Abbie: Mea and I are definitely big on travel as well! I haven't read Les Mis yet, though I've seen a stage version before and was blown away by the Hugh Jackman movie that came out a few years ago! Did you see/like it?

Tracy: I definitely share your opinions on the criminal justice system in America :/ what are you doing for a career now? Also I've been wanting to read Battle Royale for years! I've heard that Hunger Games kind of ripped it off, is that true?

message 14: by Adriana (Mea) (new)

Adriana (Mea) Gutierrez (adrianamea) | 129 comments Mod
Hi Abbie! Welcome to the club (:

I love riding roller coasters! That's such a fun fact. What's your favorite amusement park/roller coaster?

Les Misérables- I haven't read it, but since I'm trying to learn French it would probably be a good choice.

message 15: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (drizztgirl) So far it is very true about Hunger Games. The basic idea is the same, and the prize is essentially the same. But Battle Royale is more gory, and the "players" receive surprise weapons. Some of these suck, like a fork or a dart set. Then of course there are knives, a hatchet, and guns. I'm only a third through, and I LOVE it. As for the career, I used to be manager at a grocery store. Now I work as a teller at a credit union.

message 16: by Adriana (Mea) (new)

Adriana (Mea) Gutierrez (adrianamea) | 129 comments Mod
Welcome, Tracy! A criminal justice major, who's turned against the system- that takes guts. I imagine it was difficult turning your back against something you're passionate for.

It looks like you're into action/suspense novels. We'll be reading a murder mystery novel "The Snowman" in the upcoming months, this book might be right up your alley.

message 17: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (drizztgirl) Yeah, what sucked about it is I didn't find out until my internship that I didn't like how our system was set up. That was my last semester. But I still have a degree, so that's something. My favorite books tend to be sci-fi and fantasy, but I read almost everything. :)

message 18: by Abigale (new)

Abigale Cheatham Yes! I've seen both the stage play and the movie musical! I love them both and even listen to the soundtrack on Spotify quite often. :)

I'd say my favorite coaster is either Intimidator 305 at Kings Dominion, El Toro at Six Flags Great Adventure, or Fury 325 at Carowinds! It's hard to say what my favorite park is but my "home" park is Dollywood so I'll go with that one.

My school is mainly focused on natural sciences and mathematics but, along the way, I realized that my passions are more of an artistic nature. :) I love reading different kinds of books, but my favorite genre at the moment are gothic novels. I also enjoy classical and jazz music, photography and movies. :) Glad to be the part of this awesome group! :D

message 23: by Saraswathy (new)

Saraswathy | 1 comments Hi, i am Saru from India. I'm 21 and a doctor under construction. Nothing great about me to speak of. I LOVE reading books.. the way it makes us feel like we are actually living the story, got me addicted. The only problem is i never find the right book, the book that satisfies the crave and even if i do find one there is no one around to discuss about it! And its frustating not to talk about it! Thats the reason i joined the group.. To find great books and people who are eager to talk about them!

message 24: by Atif (new)

Atif Waheed | 2 comments Hi everyone! Atif here, Well I am an engineering student, graduated with a bachelors in materials engineering now pursuing masters in mining and minerals. So life is tough and certainly at times you love to be alone and be taught and understood and get
a better understanding of it all. Books do provide me an escape into that medium. hate the fact my love for reading came quite late but nevertheless its here now, need to make the most out of it. Looking forward to hearing from you all. Thanks for letting me know about the group. Cheers

What do I like to read? I can read anything as long as it is absorbing. I read a lot of books and I'm proud of it.

Imogen Reeves (purplegems3) | 10 comments Hey! I'm Imogen and I'm from the UK. I'm 19 years old. I've recently finished a Level 3 BTEC in Music Technology. When I'm not reading, I'm either trying to get a job, listening to music, watching my favourite YouTubers or hanging out with my friends. I love reading books (especially YA) and most of the book I read are okay, they aren't my favourite (which I'm quite happy to read over and over again).

message 31: by Karma (new)

Karma Eberhardt (ladylibrary) Hi everyone! So I'm a little late joining into this group but I hope it is as awesome as it seems to be! My name is Karma and I'm 24 years old who lives in Indianapolis, IN. I'm very new to both Goodreads and to this group obviously but I want to be more well read than what I am. My passion for both books and film run very close but I have a little more love for novels since they don't have a time limit to tell the story like a movie does. I'm very diverse in what I tend to read but if I had to categorize what I read into genres based on what I own I would say I lean more into Sci-fi, Historical fiction, and Drama/Thriller. I thoroughly enjoy watching as many films as I can as well because sometimes seeing what I have read be put into life is pretty amazing. I have MoviePass so my ability to see movies in a theatre setting has skyrocketed and I'm loving it! Can't wait to jump into what this group is doing!

Hi Karma! It's awesome that you have such a diverse reading palette! One my goals for the year is to read books that are sometimes out of my comfort zone to gain new perspectives.

I just got MoviePass too! Isn't it amazing? It's like a dream come true for movie nerds. (:

Yes!! I love MoviePass and all that it stands for lol. I've had it since October and have seen roughly 30 movies? I was able to accurately score my Oscar movies this year because I was able to watch all of them for the first time ever... I really hope they don't bust

message 34: by Kiraa (new)

Kiraa (kiraa29) | 1 comments Hello!! My name is Kiraa! I too have MoviePass, and yes it is great!
I love reading books and then watching them on the big screen. Although I will admit, I have yet to find a movie that is better than the book. The Harry Potter series came close, but in the end, the book had to offer so much more than what the movie actually delivered. Also, I'm a Harry potter nerd.

message 35: by Marvin (new)

Marvin Townsend | 4 comments Hi everyone, my name is Marvin Townsend, I'm 28.
I've always been a big movie buff but I only started reading books about 2 years ago (anything other than comic books that is).
Now that I've realized that books are awesome, I wish I'd have started reading them much sooner because there are so many great books and so little time to try and read them all.
I'm mostly a thriller/action fan but I'll read anything as long as it has a good story and good, fleshed out characters.

Cheech (michaela) (cheechpeach) Hi! My name is Michaela and I'm 18. I'm a senior in high school and about to graduate in May. I'm going to college in Ohio but I honestly have no idea what I want to major in. Like everyone else here, I love reading! The first memory I have of loving to read is when I was in the third grade and read Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief. I love to read fantasy and science fiction and recently I've gotten into reading plays. My favorite book right now I would probably say is Egg & Spoon by Gregory Maguire, though I change my mind a lot. I'm really excited to be a part of this group! :)

message 38: by Jenni (new)

Jenni (sparklestuff) Hey, book & movie lovers. I'm JB. Between work (at Barnes & Noble) and college, I don't have heaps of spare time for reading, but I do try to put one or two away per month. I haven't been very active on Goodreads, though I've had my account for a while. I thought joining a discussion style group might motivate me more! My interests are pretty varied, and I liked what I saw for the readings over the next couple of months. So here's to reading some books together! :)

Hi Ella!

I read my first (2) Stephen King books this year! I recently finished IT and The first book in the Gunslinger series... I have no idea how I went so long without picking up a King book.

We're planning on adding the second book to our reading list as well. What Stephen King books have you read/movies have you watched?

I know we have some big SK friends in the group!

I love movies, and watch a lot of movies based on books. A lot I have been dissatisfied with but a handful have been good .
