Hazel Have you ever watched "The Number 23", Barbar? I freaked friends out for a couple of days after they watched it by making everything link to the number 23.

Old barbarossa = 13 letters, two components to name, so times 13 by 2 = 26, 1 syllable in old, 4 in barbarossa, subtract 1 from 4 = 3, then subtract that from 26 = 23 ;P

Okay. Hold on.

Zachary and Y_A_I_R ...

I don't appreciate people making nasty comments about God either, specifically using swear words about God. (Of course, I don't appreciate people making nasty comments about other people.)

However, ....

If you're religious, ... YAIR, if you're Catholic, ....

Do you truly think the God you believe in would want you treating people this way and "speaking" this way? YAIR, does Jesus swear at people and make nasty comments to people in the gospels?

The Jesus I read about in the gospels and the Jesus I believe in led by example. And .... When he spoke to the apostles about going forth and spreading the word, I believe he said, if a town didn't accept them, they were to leave and shake the dirt from their feet. He didn't say to call the people names and say they were on crack.

So ....

"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household."

Which, while not actually sweary, is fairly in yer face for a prince of peace.

Truthfully, I'd forgotten that verse. It is there, though. You're right. I don't know how to explain that verse. I know I've heard people explain it by saying it was just a metaphor, etc.... But, I don't know what to think about it.

Having said that, ....

The vast majority of the lessons credited to Jesus do not show him saying things like, "Yo, u on crack B****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

In addition, my point wasn't to convert the masses. I was hoping people who claim to believe in God would take a moment to pause and question their actions.

Of course, I responded prior to getting to the end. I didn't realize the children had already signed off.

Finally, could someone educate me on "trolls" ... new to texting and this site and don't know certain things ...

message 3426: by Hazel (last edited May 03, 2012 04:26PM) (new) - rated it 2 stars

Hazel troll: one who posts inflammatory remarks with the intent to provoke and insult originally restricted to internet posts, but the term has been extended to other mediums,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(I...

sometimes it can be used for humourous ends, like Rowan Atkinson as Blackadder in this clip, in which the art of trolling is shown before it was even called trolling:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=on9U_t...

but its usually just people being wankers.

aPriL does feral sometimes Here is an explanatory link:

There is the lovely story in Matthew 15 Where he call the Canaanite's or at least unbelievers "dogs" while proclaiming he's only here for the jews (the lost house of Israel)

15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
15:25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
15:26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
15:27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.

If they think that as a result of their being a catholic, then it follows that it is the church's position that is contributing to the spread of aids.

Bob Costello You would not have science without religion. Most early scientist were believers. It was only people who believed in a rational ordered universe created by God who pursued truth.

message 3444: by Travis (new) - rated it 4 stars

Travis Wow! I go off to work and this thread goes all over the place.
Good to see some of the adults back in the conversation.
Those two pages sponsored by the middle school new to texting theology class were a bit bizarre.

Glad to see we got a Sean Bean update.
I worry about the guy. If Shannon wasn't keeping an eye on him, he might fall in with a bad crowd.

I swear, next person to bring up the 'why are there still monkeys...?" argument is getting dope slapped.
Crack open a book, people!
Those of us who are disputing religion have at least bothered to read up on it.
Course, it helps that there's only one book.
while the anti-science crowd have so many to choose from...

That's the one.

Bob wrote: "You would not have science without religion. Most early scientist were believers. It was only people who believed in a rational ordered universe created by God who pursued truth."
And without Black People there would be no religion because the first humans came from Africa.
See how that statement makes no sense? Now check your argument again and ask yourself why some arbitrary factor like Religion, Color of the skin, Gender, etc. should have an influence on whether or not someone tries to attain knowledge through study or practice (= science).
Hint: It doesn't.

By the way: Define "early scientists". Are you talking about the Greeks, the Romans, the Chinese, the Arabians, the Europeans or the early Humans who figured out how to make fire, sharpen a stone or build a weapon?
