Yay introductions!!I am Rae, I am a nurse, momma of a 11 month old girl, wife, housing consultant, writer, daydreamer!! I am very fast paced through my whole life, can never focus on one thing to long some people call it ADHD, I just call it being a gemini! I love LOVE LOVE to read, if I could find a job that allows me to read all day long and just talk about it, I would do that in a heart beat.
I am 30 years old, live in New York City and *holds breath* I have never read a Harry Potter Novel in my life...LMAO. As much as I read that always seems to surprise people!
I love paranormal out of all the genres but can pretty much try anything once. I can't do horror because I am a punk, and older books like William Shakespeare and them make my eyes hurt.
*phew* ok I'm done now!! Nice to meet you all!
I've never read a HP Book either, and I saw one movie, maybe? And I was so confused, not really my thing, but I'm sure I'd like it if I tried, just haven't reached that point as of yet :-) enjoy your baby girl! They grow up so quickly!
@Berit I'm going to ignore that you just told me that. Harry Potter is so amazing. It's a classic.@Rae, that freaking book. It is so awful, so awful. Everyone talks about the beautiful prose, when the prose were crap.
"I'm licked by a million flames. i want to wash my soul in the bottomless blue of his eyes. im looking at him but im not. i want to kiss every beautiful beat of his heart. he feels like one block of strength"
"my heart is a field of lilies blooming under a pane of glass"
"I died five times in that second. Dandelions blowing wishes into my lungs"
"my heart is a water balloon exploding in my chest"
I want to burn that book.
Ginger wrote: "I can no longer speak to you, you have broken my heart for never reading Harry Potter, sigh. lol"lol, i just signed on for the buddy reads for book one, its been sitting in my kindle for at least a year, i am sorry to admit...lol, but I am going to do it... I think i can! I think I can!...lmao
I hope I don't get hooked though.. because I am the type that once I get hooked I just don't stop. It took me forever to read
but once I did, I read the whole series in less than a day, sans sleep.Harry potter has like 13 thousand books, ill be up for days..lol

lol it only has seven :P you can handle it!!! And I want to hear how you like it when you do :DI want to read The Vampire Academy series and Bloodlines and that's 12 books I believe total, that's gonna be a pain.
Oh dear you all make me feel so old. I have children as old as, if not older than you all except Berit. As you know I'm from Australia I am married and we have 3 daughters aged 30, 26 and 25. I own a post office in a small country town so I get to listen to audio books for 8 to 10 hours per day while I sort mail and then deliver it. Then its back to the post office to help in the shop. But don't imagine I'm on a bike as I deliver the mail. I deliver mail in the bush and to farmers in a AWD. My oldest daughter is a nurse in the Emergency department, Middle daughter has a masters in Nutrition but by the time she got her degree jobs were very scarce so she works in a cafe, youngest daughter got her degree in commerce but decided to go back to uni and do nursing she will finish at the end of this year. I got into YA when my children were young as they loved me to read the same books as them. I introduced them to sci fi and fantasy at a young age so they are all addicted to it. I am really passionate about Harry Potter a lot of adults screw up there noses at it but I like to point out to them that it has gotten millions of children reading. A lot of these children may never have taken up reading if not for this series. So if for no other reason its well worth a read no matter what age you are. For children the books were brilliantly done as they grew with the reader when they first came out. I love epic sci fi/fantasy books the most but I read all sorts of books even the odd Non Fiction, but I hate mushy romance where they OOhhh and Ahhhhh over the males. I also hate female who claim they are the best at something then act all weak and defenceless.

OMG. Please do read the series asap! I'm with Ginger and Berit too, everyone has to read Harry Potter!! *_*

I have been meaning to read The Vampire Academy series too!

Sometimes I do feel like I'm to old for it, but I don't think it's the genre I think its just certain books. Also a job where you can listen to audiobooks all day? I am jealous, very jealous.
I drive two hours everyday to work, an hour there, an hour back, so I try to listen to audiobooks in the car.
So for those who have read Harry Potter, which house would you say you would be in? I get Gryffindor a lot when I take those little quizzes and Pottermore & I've gotten Ravenclaw once or twice
Yea sometimes I am a bit embarrassed that I still read YA but I just feel that these books have way more creativity and to be honest I'm a big kid anyway...lol

I totally agree with your view on those romances and weak female protagonists. Most of them act as if they can't live without a boy and it's annoying how they go on for pages whining and braggibg how handsone that boy is.
I think the issue with YA and Adult is, Adult is a bit dryer and it takes more time to enjoy it. I'll never be embarrassed for reading YA because most people don't read at all. Although books in the Horror genre, to me, are always better in Adult books. YA horror is worse than a cheesy horror movie where strippers are wearing stilettos fighting zombies. Which I've always thought was so unpractical. Why wouldn't they take those shoes off to run from zombies, or to stab them in the heads?
Weak female protagonists? Like the one from Throne of Glass, who was supposed to be a bad ass assassin but talks about pretty dresses and "why doesn't he like me" and "why doesn't every guy here love me", and who eats mysterious candy she finds on the bed even though it could be poisoned? I hate her so much. I heard the rest of the series get better but that was the most pathetic 'assassin' character I've ever ran into.
So many times you have a decent book but throughout the whole thing the girl has to be whining about how her heart aches for someone she cannot have, yet she ends up with them in the end every time.
@ginger sounds like you don't like the girl in Throne of glass... Just an outside view...lolSo I am reading Harry potter, its very cute. It is making me smile a lot .

Yeah, this rings so true. I've never tried many horror books though. Have seen Stephen King and Dean Koontz many times on gr but never got around to trying them. Goosebumps are the only 'horror' books I've read lol!
Bella is still the first name that pops to mind on hearing weak female protagonist. And I also hated the character Katniss Everdeen turned out to be the later two books. Haven't read Throne of Glasses yet, so can't comment on that.
Btw don't you guys feel there is a severe lack of male protagonists in recent YA novels? To think about it, I can't even name ten novels with male lead!
Every quiz I take for HP gives me Ravenclaw so I'm pretty chuffed with that 🎉 and also, I'm just powering through my library books atm which are 200-300 pages but as soon as I'm finished I'll be hitting the big books 💪💪
I agree that there does seem to be a sever lack of male protagonists 🙊 it would be interesting for a different POV
Actually those action books such as Young James Bond, The Bodyguard, The Hit, Agent 21 and Sherlock Holmes etc, do feature them by stereotype and interest I assume but I have to see a different genre with a male protagonist. (Would Wuthering Heights count? From perspective of Heathcliff but maybe that's an exception)
Rae wrote: "@ginger sounds like you don't like the girl in Throne of glass... Just an outside view...lolSo I am reading Harry potter, its very cute. It is making me smile a lot ."
Haha, you'll love it more with the coming books. J.K Rowling is the Queen for a reason :P
@Rae, what would make you think that lol ;). I do want to read that entire series, but I'll be taking it with a grain of salt. Also I'm really happy you're reading Harry Potter :).@Fuzaila, There is a lack of male protagonists for sure! I want to read more books with male leads, in hopes that they won't be so darn whiney! But YA consists of mostly white female main characters. It's getting better, more diverse books are coming out but it definitely is overrun with white females.
Don't forget everyone, and this is very important, when you read your books and post for reviews there are TONS of editions of each book! You can read a 300 page book and there will be an edition that is 500 pages of the same book. Remember to use the edition with the highest page count when you link to the pages! :)
I do love romance, and I love being single myself, just something about all the angst and drama I enjoy reading about, I also love psychological thrillers, and both of these are done better in either new adult or adult rather than young adult.... but fantasy I prefer young adult, and I agree I cannot stand those whiny female characters.... as I have taught my children the only person that will always be there for you is yourself, so you better learn to love yourself first, before you try to love other people, my daughter has been with her boyfriend since she was a sophomore in high school, I like him and I like herwith him, I just wish they had met when they were older, I just don't want her to feel as though she is missing out on some things, but it is her life, it is hard to let go :-)
@Rae you put for Shatter Me 338 pages but there is an edition with 521 pages https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... so you missed out on two points there.
Ginger wrote: "@Rae you put for Shatter Me 338 pages but there is an edition with 521 pages https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... so you missed out on two points there."
Just let the mods know they will alter it for you.

We could request the mods for the extra points?
@Ginger Did you read my mind Throne of Glass had me rolling my eyes and groaning in pain just trying to get through it without putting the book on the floor and jumping on it.
Berit☀️✨ wrote: "Great job team! We are all on the board!@Jillian do you post men/women in Australia ride bikes?"
In the city centre's they walk, in the suburbs they ride bikes, in the country towns they ride motor bikes I think some outer suburbs may use motor bikes also and then there are the road side delivery like I do we use cars. What do they deliver the mail with where you are?
They have electronic cars, But They don't look like any other car anybody else drives, I guess it would be more of a truck or a van maybe? let me see if I can find a picture, I'm pretty sure this is standard for all of the US? But I've never lived outside of a major city so I'm not sure :-)
Ok Harry Potter book 1 done. It was a fun read! I won't say I am hooked but I will look into getting the second book soon.
Thanks Fuzaila & Gillian & no problem Rae, I just don't want you missing out on points :).@Gillian, are you going to try reading the rest of the TOG series?
In Wisconsin, if you live in a city the mailman delivers it in a white truck & if you live in the country they deliver it in a regular car with a little light on top.
Rae wrote: "Ok Harry Potter book 1 done. It was a fun read! I won't say I am hooked but I will look into getting the second book soon."For me it was amazing because I was that age when I first read it so I grew up with the characters, literally, but still I think its magical XD.
Ginger they don't have electronic trucks? they are white with red and blue on them, maybe looks kind of like an ice cream truck, but smaller? That is something I've never thought of, I just assumed everyone had the same vehicle delivering their mail, LOL
http://blog.caranddriver.com/the-u-s-...Those are how our trucks look, I didn't think they were electric? Maybe they are? But they are still trucks, and in the country they are definitely not electric they are just a regular car owned by whomever is working at the post office in that area and delivers the mail.
Ginger wrote: "http://blog.caranddriver.com/the-u-s-...Those are how our trucks look, I didn't think they were electric? Maybe they are? But they are still trucks, and in..."
Wow that would be awesome but they don't have the letter boxes on the edge of the road like that. I wish they did. Normally in towns they are in the fence some times they are in the gardens. Even on my roadside delivery most of them are not on the road side so its a real pain to get to them.
In older neighborhoods where I am they have to park and walk because the mailboxes are in the door or at the door, but in the newer communities all the mailboxes are on the street, or in a single box for the entire community, kind of like at an apartment.....
Hmmm, so I see I didn't pick the biggest book again, it doesn't matter if it's a different language, that other book didn't look like the same book..lol
Yeah in cities and towns the mailboxes are on the houses, but in the country they are right along side the road but that's because some driveways in the country can be a mile long if not more. I don't even have a mailbox at my apartment which is crap & there is a community mailbox thing on my street, but this is in a town of 2,120 people. My home town is 65,000 and they all have theirs on their houses.
@Rae, the 700+ one I was unsure of but the 400+ one looked the same
Ginger wrote: "I'm babysitting 5 kids today, hopefully I can get some reading done."Woah! Babysitting can get messy. And five kids? God, If it was me babysitting my cousins or something I'll probably come back in shreds 😂
You can use any edition in a foreign language, the large print version, the only thing you can't use is an iPhone version.....
