J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 2268 comments Knud Wentzel, a Danish researcher in literature at the University of Copenhagen, recently published a book called “My European canon” (Min europæiske kanon.) The book maybe only exists in Danish, but the list is here:

I have voted in all 26. “European” seems to be very broadly used with Genesis.

Anyway: I have read 6 of those. How about you?

I've read 4, but there are many more on the list I'd like to read. Thanks for posting! 🤗

Pink | 5491 comments This is a short list and no female authors at all. I've read 14, so just over half for me, but I'd like to read the rest one day.

Kathleen | 5458 comments This does seem like a very classical sort of list--thanks for sharing! I've read 7, have one more coming up, and would also like to read them all eventually.

Carol (carolfromnc) I've read 7. Having said that, as others note, it's the same list one would have encountered in 1979 (in the U.S.) when I entered undergrad. It's too narrow, IMO, to take comfort in or use as a worthy metric.

message 6: by Terris (new)

Terris | 4385 comments I've read 8, but this is not my favorite list.

message 7: by Nente (new)

Nente | 746 comments I like the lists members of this group make for their challenges =) more than many Critically Acclaimed lists, anyway.

Oh yes, we have some amazing book lists for members' challenges.

Terris | 4385 comments Agreed!

message 10: by Aprilleigh (new)

Aprilleigh (aprilleighlauer) | 333 comments I've read 6 in their entirety, another in part, and the rest are on my to-read shelf. I'm thinking that means I agree with his list, LOL.

me too.

4 from this list.

Pamela Shropshire (pswap57) | 42 comments I've read 8 from this list, and hope to eventually read all of them. As others have commented, this is a very narrow list - nothing wrong with it, but I personally am looking to broaden my reading.

Mark André I've read twelve: #1,3,4,5,6,10,13,14,17,21,24,25.
I would be interested in reading: #18,22,23.
