December 30, 2010 by Kim Harrison

Hee, hee. Sorry people. I got ahead of myself this week, and chapter two isn’t going to be released until next Tuesday, not this Tuesday. I knew this–really I did–but failed to check my schedule before I got excited about it. I know you’ve been waiting for it, but I do have some good news in that we are scheduled to release five chapters before Pale Demon actually comes out. My apologies for any gnashing of teeth.

message 55: by Kenna (new)

Kenna (kennas) Here is where you can read the first 3 chapters of Pale Demon on Harrisons blog. she is going to preview chapter 4 for us on Feb 1st and then chapter 5, but she didnt say when for that one. Probably right before the release date. http://www.kimharrison.net/BookPages/...

Crystal (crys25) | 237 comments I read them and I thought they were great! I really love this series-I think Rachel may be one of my all-time favorite characters right after Jenks that is =)

message 61: by Starling (new)

Starling | 176 comments I'm reading my way through the whole series. I read the most recent book and just could not leave Rachel's world.

A few things hit me hard starting all over again from the beginning.

Everyone is so young at the beginning of the series. And I'm including Jenks in that. Even though he belongs to a species where he is a wise old man, he is also only 17. It is a species where there are no grandparents. Which should get interesting in the next couple of books when he actually has grandchildren.

They are all very young. And all of them have been abused in some way. Rachel's and Trent's fathers died too young, and they both ended up with too much responsibility. I don't know where Trent's mother went to, but Rachel spent a lot of her teen years taking care of her mother. Ivy's relationship with both her parents and Piscary was pretty odd as well.

Even the minor characters, like David, who is fighting being an alpha male with a pack, turn out to be very young by the standards of their species.

And all of them are powerful. Things are about to change in Rachel's world, and we've spent the last 9 books discovering just how they are going to change.

Dnelson | 8 comments I am just starting the series, and I am not getting hooked! I want to! I really want to! So many people love this series.
Tell me is the kind of series that I need to stick with for a little bit, or would know right away if its not for me?

message 63: by Dnelson (new)

Dnelson | 8 comments Oops, I didnt specify. I just started Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows, #1) by Kim Harrison

message 64: by Gin (new)

Gin | 338 comments It's one that grows on you. In my opinion, the best thing about these books are the developing friendships between the characters and the world building. Both of which take time. I don't remember exactly which book completely sucked me in, but I know it took a little while for me to get into the first one.

message 65: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 37 comments This is most definitely a series that grows on you. When I started I read the second or third book then went back and read the first book. It's just like Gin said it's the start, world building, getting to know the characters. I love this series and with each book it's better.
Hopefully you'll find you like it but if not, well not even one is meant to like the same books.

message 66: by Dnelson (new)

Dnelson | 8 comments I think I'm distracted by the fact that there hasn't been a love interest introduced yet! I am almost half way into the book. I don't need heavy romance, but since it's not there, I am waiting for it to show up! I'm going to keep going, I don't like to read a book unfinished if I can help it.
So far, the vampires in her world are really interesting, so I want to see where that goes.

message 67: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments The first book was rather slow for me until I got about half way in and then I was hooked.
If you are looking for a love interest you will need to let that go it really is more UF then PNR.

Thanks Dawn, that is what I needed to know. I can concentrate on what is going on in the story now!

It's a series that you have to stick with it. I found the first book a little boring, but really liked the characters, & the concept of a witch & a vampire & pixie living together & working as a team

This isn't a series that is heavy on the romance, and some books have less then others. It has some, and plenty of it is falling for the wrong person.

message 71: by Gin (new)

Gin | 338 comments It is definitely more UF than PNR. There is some romance, but it builds over multiple books.

message 72: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I think you either love Rachel or you don't. If she is not your cup of tea I don't think you will like the character.

The other thing I like about the series is how relationships and bonds form which do not deal with sexual relationships.

message 73: by Sue (new)

Sue (suecakes) | 15 comments It seems that she just about to finish the last book in the series, which will be released in 2015. I wonder if it's directly after Ever After, or that there will be another book in 2014?

message 74: by Lauren (last edited Jan 29, 2013 06:21AM) (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Just finished Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows, #1) by Kim Harrison - listened to the audiobook and loved Marguerite Gavin's narration. Her voices are great, especially for Jenks. In fact, it is the narration and Jenks's sarcastic one liners that kept me going because the first half of the book really dragged on and on.
It got better in the second half and I definitely want to see what happens next.

It is not showing up on the sony site?? GRRR

message 77: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) As I'm not a fan of PR, this series is great. It's not all about the typical happy ending and it focuses on Rachel as a character and her relationships (not just romantic) with the other characters.

It's been a fun series and I'll be a bit sad when it ends, but I think it's better than dragging the series out. (IMO like the Anita Blake series). I can't wait to see the next adventures Kim Harrison has in store for us. Will it be another Hollows character, something new?

message 78: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) I don't know if anybody's interested, but Kim started a group on here that is doing a read along of the whole series. They're on book 1 now, so if you get started you can catch up. I think Kim's trying for 5 pages a day hoping to start the 2nd book either tomorrow or the 15th. (Not sure, she's said both dates in two different places).

message 79: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments That is interesting I wonder if her list serve is no longer active.

message 80: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) She said it was easier to do a read along here because of the format. Also: starting now the series will be going on a revolving sale for ebook. Dead Witch Walking is on sale for 1.99 until the 14th when The Good, the Bad and the Undead goes on sale and so on. :D

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Last year I think there was a short story called Trouble on Reserve that was released through ipad

I could never get my hands on the story so I rather gave up.

Today I found out there is now a part two and both parts are available here
http://www.wattpad.com/35589755-troub...

Happy Reading!!

message 85: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments Dawn thanks for sharing that! I didn't even know that super short existed! I just finished the series yesterday morning and I'm not so patiently waiting for Undead Pool! Along with about 3 or 4 other big releases between now and then. So again thanks so much!!

Cassie's Lost Fallen Angel of the Reading Stars (lostfalenangelofthemoonsstarz) | 6 comments Does anyone know how many books are going to be in the series? Just curious...

message 87: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) There are two more. The Undead Pool which comes out later this month and an untitled for next year.

message 88: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments 13 last I heard :-(

message 89: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I just want to say it is office Kim Harrison is a tease. SO for the short story she is releasing a little at a time it is such torture. I have tried not to look at it because she cuts the stories at the most inconvenient parts.

GAHH

message 90: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments What short story? Gah!! I need to bookmark her page or blog don't I? Hers are so new to my of favorite stories that I haven't done that yet. But I am impatiently waiting for Undead Pool! I just got to read Chloe Neill's latest book, which helped with my anxiety over all the new ones I'm waiting for, but I swear there was another one that was supposed to come out on the 4th of February that I didn't mark down anywhere and now I can't find it!!

message 91: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments Ugh! I found the one you were talking about, the one she's ever so slowly posting on wattpad. Now I'm more anxious and annoyed than I was waiting for Undead Pool! So if you want to start a letter writing campaign, just let me know. I'm sure the two of us will make a giant difference ;-)

message 92: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments LOL I hit her up on twitter like why do you torture us!!
She picks the most amazing parts where I am like is the next part up yet ...I feel like a five year old!

message 93: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments That was a horrible place to stop!! I can understand wanting to keep your auidence's attention, but she's putting this out for her fans. She has their attention!! Ugh!! Do you know what day she usually posts on? I set it up so I'm following the story, but I haven't used wattpad much so I just wanted to know so if I need to go looking next week.

message 94: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments You know I am not sure. I just happened to see her announce it on twitter but I think they may go up on Thursday.

message 95: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments OMG that's so long! That's four days from now! Oh well, I'll enjoy Rosie Pressey until then, and I SWEAR something was supposed to come out Tuesday, though of course I can't find it now. If I can't figure it out, I might start the Immortals After Dark series while I wait for the 25th.

message 96: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I know but I bet there will be two more installments since the book does not come out until the end of the month - on a Tuesday I think.

I am not sure what comes out this week...at least nothing that I am planning on buying.

message 97: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments Almost all new releases come out on Tuesdays, I think to boost sales on what would otherwise be a terrible retail day. Too many years as an electronics, and movies, department manager in a big box store taught me these things. Hardly any books break out of the Tuesday rule, but only the highest named, highest budget movies dare to break the mold and they usually go for Fridays or, every once in a while if it's a Disney movie, Saturdays. The Friday movies are usually LOTR, Harry Potter, Hobbit type movies, something actually big enough to get a line even on an off day movie release. Harry Potter was the only book release I saw a line for, and that's because I was there for it too! Deathly Hollows anyway, I just happened to be out on medical leave for an ankle surgery. I took the 12 week time to plan to read the whole series, it only took a week and a half!! I was bored the rest of the time!!

message 98: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Very true on new release Tuesday - never thought about it before but you are totally right!!

LOL on the medical leave story - my son literally grew up with the series so we would go and stand on line in costumes and what not to buy the book. Then when we got home we would read a chapter together and I would of course steal the book and finish it. It would have been torture to read it together for real.

message 99: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments I resisted but I figured what the heck, I have all this time with nothing to do! I couldn't even walk on my foot for the first 6 weeks, so I needed something to keep me from turning into a daytime TV addict! Even now that I'm officially disabled (oddly not the ankle, though it's not much better off than back then), I still refuse to watch regular daytime TV. I'm addicted to sitcoms and crime dramas instead, when I do pay attention to the TV. Gotta have it on for noise no matter what!

message 100: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments That was a fun series the later books got a little off track I think but highly enjoyable.

I think I may reread it this year.

TV for background noise I used to do that all the time now I tend to use music and I love Law and Order lol
