This book was possibly published in the 1960s (when I read it). It is a simple children's book, and tells the tale of the O'Leary family cat who climbs a tree and is unable to get down. The local fire department comes out to save the day.

Thank you for checking, but no, this isn't it. He is a housecat belonging to the O'Leary family. Their surname might be in the title, if not, it is certainly repeated often in the story.
Found it! :-D It's amazing how many times (over the years) I have searched online for this book, and finally I found it! It would appear by the picture on book that the cat was on the roof, and not the tree, lol, I sit corrected.
