Sara Nominate one book you would like the group to read for August’s monthly challenge – a book set in the wilderness.

Post the title and author (please use the add book link for the book title, if possible).

Rules:
One nomination of one book per member. If you post multiple books only the first one will be counted.

You must list the title in your comment in order to count.

The top 6 most nominated books will be added to a poll which will open after the nominations have been closed and counted.

Nominations will close on Friday, June 23*

*a question came up last month about the time the thread was closed. We have participants from many countries so it is impossible for me to close it at the most convenient time for everyone (and I can't stay up to all hours of the night either). I will most likely close it sometime in the morning eastern standard time. I would suggest you aim for Thursday at the latest if you want to ensure the nomination thread is open.

No other posts in this thread. If you wish to discuss the merits of the books you can do so on the individual prompt thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Wesley This probably seems a little obvious, but Wild by Sheryl Strayed has been on my TBR list for a long time. I've heard it's good for group reads as well.

May be of use to check out these books (I understand many may enter their choices from an app that makes adding links difficult.)
A Sand County Almanac and Sketches Here and There by Aldo Leopold A Sand County Almanac and Sketches Here and There by Aldo Leopold
The Eagle Tree by Ned Hayes The Eagle Tree by Ned Hayes
The Land Breakers by John Ehle The Land Breakers by John Ehle
Wild From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed

(The order entered here is only the order from which I grabbed these from the posts above. If a goodreads link was already included, I did not repeat here. )

In addition, I'd like to nominate a book that has been around for awhile, but is a delightful read:
A Walk in the Woods Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson

(I can't nominate another, but if it has been awhile since you have read them, I encourage reading one of Jack London's into the wilderness stories. Or perhaps one of the polar expeditions.)

From Msg 18: The Stranger in the Woods The Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit by Michael Finkel The Stranger in the Woods: The Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit by Michael Finkel

From Msg 20: The Revenant by Michael Punke The Revenant by Michael Punke

From Msg 31: Walking the Amazon 860 Days. The Impossible Task. The Incredible Journey by Ed Stafford Walking the Amazon: 860 Days. The Impossible Task. The Incredible Journey by Ed Stafford

Look to be some wonderful suggestions on this entire thread -- and some big question marks about how to use one's time as I read the reviews.
