Daniel | 1 comments Hey there,

I am not librarian, but I accidentally made two entries for the same book.

This entry has a few numbers missing off the isbn
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

This entry has the correct isbn
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

Thanks!

Separation is necessary because we need the Duplicate + Target paired ONLY otherwise all the reviews and shelvings will go to the wrong edition. If we don't separate them, then we cannot add the readers etc. to the correct edition - we don't select a target at the point of deletion, it is selected automatically as the most popular edition. By separating, we ensure that the only possible target is the edition we need to receive all the reviews and shelvings.

In this case it was particularly important because it would not only have merged into the wrong format, but also the wrong language, if left unseparated. When the merge is complete, then we can recombined the edition(s) back with the main block. In the event of more than one identical merge, then we can separate them all with a single target, but must queue them sequentially and wait for each to go before queuing the next duplicate.

#302 No merge - those are differing paperback and hardback editions.

Joseph (josephuk) | 259 comments Emy wrote: "#302 No merge - those are differing paperback and hardback editions."

Of course you don't have to, but could you provide me with the source from the paperback edition? As far as I know this publisher has only two editions for this book (one hardcover from 1989 and one paperback from 2013), and this ISBN is exclusive for the hardcover edition. Plus, this "paperback" edition has the ISBN-10 of the hardcover edition on the ISBN-13 spot.

message 307: by Emy (last edited Jun 28, 2017 02:59AM) (new)

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments It will presumably be in the edit record. The ISBN13 truncation could also be of a paperback from the same editor - losing the last 3 digits is often enough to obscure the exact edition.

OK, checked the edits, and it appears to have come from book-in-hand, at the same time with other data. I would suggest that the reader has/had a paperback edition with an incorrect ISBN listed. I can't find the correct second ISBN on Worldcat, but that's not so unlikely for an older fiction work. I will add a note to the paperback indicating the incorrect ISBN(s), but leave it as we don't have another 1989 paperback edition in the correct language...

Thank you for explaining that, now it I begin to understand how things work. :)

I was asking because one of my friends had reviewed the wrong edition, and now I cannot find her review anymore when I click any of the two links, it is only present on her profile.

Reviews can take up to 48 hours to show on the right page again due to caching. If she holds off editing until tomorrow it should let her move it to the correct edition. That she can still see it on her profile should also reassure her that it's not lost, just temporarily less visible.

Please do not post book move requests in this thread. For help on moving books from your profile, please start a NEW thread in the Book Issues folder and a librarian will help you.

This thread is for books which need to be completely removed from the entire database.

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 9386 comments I think that can be merged in the other ebook https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
entered may 17, with 2016 as edition (but 2010 as pub year) and no further info. (and didn't find a second ebook edition, worldcat mentions only the 2015 edition)
If it shouldn't be merged then they must be recombindet with the other editions again - have seperated the ebooks out.

I removed the title from both listings, per the author's request. But it's the same book, just with two listings (hence the request)!

Hello! A travel writer has the same name as me, and her travel books are appearing on my new author page. It's super confusing. I'd be very grateful if someone could remove all the Frommers and Fodors and Time Out travel guides from my crime writer page. The only book that should appear on this page is The Echo Killing. Thank you in advance!!

Also, I didn't write the book about migraines that's on my wall! I used to think my name was so unusual. Lesson learned...

This is the wrong thread for your requests - this one is only(!) for real deletion of duplicates - not for moving books. (as that can be done by every librarian not only super librarians)
So please open a new thread for your requests

and @christi - it would be better if you contact support and ask them if they could move your profile (and your only book) to the 2 space profile - the other books are quite a few and as there are many editions they will keep coming in your profile otherwise.

message 327: by [deleted user] (new)

can be merged into the default then.

David Raz (davidraz) | 12754 comments #290 still not done. This is very standard case, the author used a wrong date when manually adding adding the books, then the bot added the correct one.

#307-308 done
#319 not done, placeholder was updated with isbn and other details
#320-1 done
#320-2/3: the second link is not working as someone had recombined them already. Merged one duplicate Audio-CD edition and two duplicate Kindle editions and recombined.
#324-327 done
#328 done
#329 not done, don't remove valid data like a title. I can't confirm it is the same book.
#332 done

#337 not done, there is a giveaway involved (and it was already recombined)
#338 done
#339/290 done. (Usually I don't check a request where someone else has been working on, but this was just a placeholder edition, no strange edits in the changelog, identical cover).

but now, there we go again (in fact I'm surprised how many of them still exist after years)

so there we go again:
asin as isbn13

can be merged in default (otherwise I'll seperate them)
