Jannene | 3124 comments I finished The Drifter (Peter Ash, #1) by Nicholas Petrie for the task lead pipe. The MC was helping his friends widow do repairs around the house. He lied to her and said it was funding from the Marines. It was 384 pages.

message 202: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I will start the conservatory task next since Sarah is worried about her progress. I will read Still Life (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache #1) by Louise Penny .

Janice (jamasc) | 59970 comments Woohoo! Doing great, team.

message 204: by Lanelle (last edited Jun 05, 2017 09:33PM) (new)

Lanelle | 4027 comments I've finished my white book, White Lies.

I'm not sure what to read next. I've finished all the character tasks. Sarah, do you have an idea of what needs to be covered?

Oddly enough, I've found that I can access the spreadsheet from the link on this thread, but the link on the reporting doesn't work. Hmmm.

message 205: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Thanks for having my back Jannene. I've actually made much better progress with my current 2 reads than I expected. I'm about 60% in to my library task book and a quarter in to the white book. I have commuting and hanging about later today when I go to work so I can make a bigger dint in to both of these.

Lannelle - nice one for covering all the colours. How about focusing on the weapons. There are a couple of those which are only covered twice with rope only being covered the once. That could be a good choice. Same for the rooms - ballroom, dining room, billiard room, and lounge are only covered the once two. Could be good for back ups. I think The weapons section should be a priority though as it's smaller and we could then claim a second sweep of that section. How does that sound?

message 206: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments Crikey, it seems like everyone is making good progress with their reads. I didn't get much reading done yesterday as work got in the way and I was shattered but I've only got about 100 or so pages left so aiming to get my read finished tonight.

Good work everyone!

message 207: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59970 comments Good morning, Teamies!

Our score after day 3 is 115 points with 16 books read! Great job.

message 208: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Jun 06, 2017 06:35AM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59970 comments Just reviewed the spreadsheet.

In order to get the bonus in the weapons department, we need:
- Candlestick (Sam is currently reading)
- Rope (Annette is currently reading)

In the rooms section, we need:
- Kitchen
- Conservatory (Jannene is currently reading)
- Dining Room
- Library (Sarah is currently reading)
- Lounge (Janice is currently reading)
- Study

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 2295 comments I have just finished a book that will work for lounge as characters are actors

Station Eleven

but i don't want to post if someone else has committed to it

Please report it. Even if someone else is committed to it we still get points.

message 211: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I finished my first book for the library task. I've reported but not updated the spreadsheet. Making progress with my audio for the white task and just started my book for the conservatory.

message 212: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Another yellow read would be good too for another sweep of the colours. I thought we had 2 down already for yellow but it's not showing up on the spreadsheet now.

message 213: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4027 comments I just finished a circus book. I'll go report it now.

Sarah, thanks for letting us know what needs to be read.

I'll start on a yellow book next. Kitchen and Dining Room after that.

message 214: by Laura (Lclwags) (new)

Laura (Lclwags) (lclwags) | 698 comments I'm currently reading one for the kitchen (40% finished) and one for the study(25% finished).

I have reported it and in right thread this time

message 216: by Amanda (Mandy) (new)

Amanda (Mandy) | 762 comments I had started my book for the Library, but then saw that Sarah was already doing the task. So last night I switched to my book for the Kitchen. I also started a book for the Ballroom because it was free and an audiobook. I knew I wasn't going to get much reading done last night due to having to catch up on some work. However, since I listened to the audiobook I felt like I was still helping.

message 217: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Don't worry Amanda, most tasks are duplicated but best to focus on the ones which haven't had a book read for yet if possible.

message 218: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments We're doing well Ladies! I'm now 37% in to my audio and 11% in to my print book. I'll focus on my print book this evening.

message 219: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm looking ahead to see what I might pick up if I finish the two I'm reading in time. I'll probably have to go for the shortest book which is either Blue or Revolver or maybe White again on audio. But I don't want to get ahead of myself.

message 220: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Oh my. Footbinding is hideously awful. I had a look of disgust on my face whilst i read my book on the train. My bunion is hurting out of sympathy for these poor children. Just looked at some pictures on google of the remaining women who experienced footbinding. I have no idea why people would want feet like that. The book is very intriguing.

message 221: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Sam's reported read has meant we have completed the weapons section gaining us 20 bonus points. Now we need to finish the rooms section for a clean sweep of all three sections. :-)

message 222: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments Sarah wrote: "Another yellow read would be good too for another sweep of the colours. I thought we had 2 down already for yellow but it's not showing up on the spreadsheet now."

It was because Marie thought it was the white column instead of yellow.

Jannene | 3124 comments Sarah wrote: "Oh my. Footbinding is hideously awful. I had a look of disgust on my face whilst i read my book on the train. My bunion is hurting out of sympathy for these poor children. Just looked at some pictu..."

I looked into that for some paper. The scary thing is that it was found to be beautiful! I cannot imagine going through that just to be beautiful.

message 224: by Lanelle (last edited Jun 06, 2017 05:07PM) (new)

Lanelle | 4027 comments I don't want to even think about foot binding. Or corsets. All for fashion :(

I've finished a yellow covered book that can also be used for Kitchen.
Next I'll read a Dining Room book.

Way to go Sam! That is one huge book.

Good job Marie!

Awesome job Sarah.

Well done Lanelle. I updated the sheet for you.

message 226: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I am 58% through my book. I hope to finish tomorrow. If I don't then I will have to find an audio purple book so I can complete that task before Saturday. The o e that I planned on reading is print and I read slower.

Janice (jamasc) | 59970 comments Sarah wrote: "Oh my. Footbinding is hideously awful. I had a look of disgust on my face whilst i read my book on the train. My bunion is hurting out of sympathy for these poor children. Just looked at some pictu..."

You have got to be reading Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. That part was gruesome.

message 228: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59970 comments A friend dragged me off to see a movie tonight. Bad friend! Sounds like everyone is studiously reading.

message 229: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments We need a billiard room book then all the rooms will have two books being read for them!

message 230: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Good going people! You are all awesome!

Yes I am indeed reading Snow Flower and the Secret Fan Janice. I'm 18% in. And yes Jannene, I wouldn't go through that to look beautiful. And I don't think it does anyway - it just looks like a deformed foot to me.

message 231: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments I found that bit of Snow Flower rather disturbing too Sarah! Never got my head around why they did it but getting the views from the women were ceertainly interesting, you definitely get the sense that they don't like it either. It seems to be all about prestige and marrying the 'right' guy.

On another note I happen to have started a book with a white cover, Housework Blues A Survival Guide by Danielle Raine , so I'm going to add that to the spreadsheet too, I've got my two e-books on the go for green cover and hall but needed to have a proper book on the go too!

message 232: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 2295 comments The Twelve Lives of Samuel Hawley

I have completed this and will post to thread BUT i don't think it works for ding room. The father and daughter do come together at to solve their problems but I think the coming together in this instance meant as a celebration or something like that

It will work for revolver

I will try to find another for dining room but am at my National trust volunteer job today and am invigilating all week for exams after that

message 233: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Cool Sam. Let us know if it can be used for any other tasks too once you get reading it.

message 234: by Sarah (last edited Jun 07, 2017 01:35AM) (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Please do report the read Marie with the information above and we can work it in. Also, I would recommend heading over to the main toppler thread to ask Kristie for clarification on what she meant by a family coming together.

EDIT: Actually I'll go do that as you're off out.

message 235: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Right. I've asked Kristie so we just need to wait for her reply.

message 236: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4027 comments I finished reading My Sister's Keeper late last night. It could work for Dining Room or Revolver.

@ Sarah, I'll start reading for the Billiards Room right now.

message 237: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59970 comments Good morning! I've updated the spreadsheet and we are motoring along quite nicely.

The tally after Day 4 is 185 points and 23 books read!!

Woot!

message 238: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments That's excellent Lannelle. Thank you. You are a star!

message 239: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments @Marie - with regards to the book you read about dining room:

"It was meant to be a task for those books where family members are estranged in some way and get back together. You know the so-and-so left town planning to never return, but then her grandmother got sick so she went back and reestablished her relationship with her mother or sisters, etc. However, I didn't word it clearly, so I've been a little flexible with it. As long as they aren't together, then they are, it will fit. So, it can be coming home for a holiday.

If the dad and daughter in your book have a strained relationship and then they become closer, I will accept it. However, if they were already close and just working together, then no, because they were already together, not coming together, if that makes sense. There needs to at least be some growth of the relationship becoming closer and being repaired. "

Were they apart then came together? Did they have a strained relationship at the beginning?

message 240: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59970 comments Marie reported that book as Green. Since we already have 1 book counted towards family, counting it as green brings us closer to a second bonus in the Character section.

We just need another purple and another blue to get the second bonus. I should be finished my blue read tonight.

message 241: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59970 comments I just looked at the reporting thread, and Lanelle's latest read, My Sister's Keeper My Sister's Keeper by Edna Curry works as purple. You have to look closely, but the clothing is dark purple.

I added it to The Character section. My blue read will give us a second bonus in Characters tonight.

message 242: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Excellent. That all works superbly. How exciting! I've had a good day of getting coursework done. I've actually done more than I had planned for today so I think I might stop in a bit and do some reading.

message 243: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4027 comments I've finished the book for the Billiards Room. I was lucky to find a book which fit perfectly by one of my favorite authors.

message 244: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Good jon Lannelle. I wish i could read as quick as you.

Lanelle | 4027 comments Sarah wrote: "Good jon Lannelle. I wish i could read as quick as you."

Thanks, Sarah. That last book was a short read by one of my favorite authors. Of course I was going to speed right through it :)

I just finished a book for Candlestick. Off to the reporting thread. I plan on reading a book for Knife next.

Jannene | 3124 comments I just finished the conservatory task. I read Still Life (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache #1) by Louise Penny .

message 250: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I am not sure what to read next. Looks like we have everything covered twice unless some people can't do what has been committed.
