Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments So I thought I would join in this challenge thing since after a few interesting notifications as well as figuring I should record my reading since I only started reading properly last year and because of the new series I find what the hell might as well do it plus you guys could see how my reading develop like a journey get it cos the title is Ahdams Journey.......Anyway I hope I'm doing this right and I don't need to ask permission to do this or this doesn't post right so I deeply apologise if something bad happens and this post is getting to long so if it works and everything's fine I will post my books in the next thread ASAP thanks for reading my huge cringy paragraph.

Abandoned series

The Grisha: Shadow and Bone - I read half way through the first book and it just didn't stick unfortunately and I was forcing myself to like it due to what people said about this book

Air Awakens- Could not find myself sticking to this series as wellso I gave up this one

Sorcerers Ring A Grant of Arms- This was my first meeting with fantasy and I thought I liked it but overtime I realised I was being stubborn with this series and its problems so I had to let it go

Seraphina- I just stopped I may come back to it when I feel like it but for now I'll put it here since that's a maybe

An Ember in the Ashes- Another one I just stopped halfway and I was liking it but I don't think I will pick it up to be honest

Way of shadows is in the radars but I'll wait to finish the book to see how I feel

Magician- A mixture of lack of interest due to spending too much time reading as well as the changes in character which gave me a bad taste in the second half may pick it up but who knows

Dragon Prince- Just Stopped and it seems I am not having luck with 80s fantasy which is disappointing

Pandora's Star- Had a great start and got pretty far but then the multiple subplots burned me out of it and had to put it away probably not going to pick it up again

Okay make sure we got everything we need walking stick, footwear. other essentials is all here and checked of the list and now we set off.

So many good titles!! Good luck :)

message 6: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Cheers guys it's about time I did this it seems fun

Just realised I haven't got all the books in the incomplete list 😂😂 that's what happens if you do your list in the middle of the night

message 7: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 5952 comments Good luck! You can always edit your list and add what you missed, or anything new that you start.

message 8: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Not really been a good month for reading with uni and other stuff I only managed to have read the painted man and should be able to finish Magician by the end of the month but with a couple of buddy reads planned next month it should help my reading hopefully

message 9: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments I had DNF'ed Magician by Raymond E Feist not because I didn't like it but due to having a lack of interest to finish the book so it will be put into a hiatus until I feel like reading it again

For the record, magician master was my least favorite of the entire 20+ book saga. Silverthorn (book 3) was awesome!!

message 13: by Margret, Caladan Brood Face (new)

Margret | 3168 comments Mod
I'm still going to continue the series.. but it was definitely a weak start

message 14: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Hahahahaha I don't know most of my reasons for not finishing this book was stuff happening in my life with work and stuff and it unstuck in a way but hey that was just me and I might pick it up again eventually to finish it.

Its actually funny because I didn't finish this yet I read and enjoyed the dragonbone chair which is the longest book I had read 😂😂

message 15: by Niki Hawkes, I made it past GOTM... barely (new)

Niki Hawkes - The Obsessive Bookseller | 7639 comments Mod
Haha that's good to know! And Dragonbone is loooong - I was too intimidated to start it because of how many other reads I have going.

message 16: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Infrequent Progress update:

I had DNF'ed Dragon prince due to lack of interest and I was pretty far into it I don't know I may have a problem with 80's fantasy novels hopefully cos it would be a bit worrying if it was a reading problem

However I had started The Crown tower and that was bloody brilliant and will be reading Age of Myth as well as Malice this week

End of update

Margret | 3168 comments Mod
Our updates are the same, I'm too lazy to edit my posts until I've done like 4 or 5 books :). Good job!

I wouldn't get too hung up on DNF'ing a single book. I DNF quite a bit if not books then series. I just 2*'d the Dragonbone Chair and while I finished the book I won't continue the series.

message 19: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Updated my tracker so it looks more coherent and organised also read age of myth which was brilliant and cannot wait to see more from it

Your tracker looks great Ahdam. I like how you've put an explanation besides the series you have abandoned.

Kayleigh | 26 comments The Song of the Lioness series,....well all of Tamora Pierce's books really..., were my childhood! Aside from Harry Potter, her books solidified my love for fantasy! I hope you enjoy them. :)

Thanks Kayleigh I had heard about these books quite awhile ago and I mainly chose them because I wanted to widen my horizons for female characters which isn't that many as well as take a break from the adult nitty gritty stuff and I've heard this story had a Joan of arc thing as well as a possible romance which should be a quick and interesting read

message 23: by Hacen (new)

Hacen | 883 comments I LOVE Tamora Pierce! My copies of Song of the Lioness and The Immortals are so worn out 😁

I love Song of the Lioness. I'm showing my age now, but I read this series in the late 1980's when I was twelve!

message 25: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Well it's nice to see people have read it even though when there young and I'm reading this at 19 hahahahaha

To be honest my only childhood books were horrid Henry and Captain underpants (cannot wait for the film)

Although thinking back I enjoyed some of the books I read during my English GCSE (Of mice and men and boy in the striped pyjamas)

message 26: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments When I say I read books when I was younger I'm usually talking about when I was your age Ahdam. I didn't start really getting into fantasy until I was 18.

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Bill wrote: "When I say I read books when I was younger I'm usually talking about when I was your age Ahdam. I didn't start really getting into fantasy until I was 18."

To be honest I only started getting into fantasy last year as well and I remember researching the best books and chose not to buy them because of how intimidating they were (Name of the Wind, Final Empire) so I went into my local Waterstones and bought books like Name of the Wind, Dresden Files (Still need to read it) and furies of Calderon (my fave) and it was a huge start for me

Who knows maybe in a couple years time I'll be going through books like you do for breakfast

I think it's wonderful you've developed such a passion for books at the stage in life you're at. Think of how many great experiences you'll have starting so early!

Not that age matters, as my Mother says "every year that I'm above the dirt is a good year!"

message 29: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Progress update for June

Might as well write this but June had been a great month for me and while I had some problems last month I had managed to read 4 books either in buddy reads or on my own which I'm proud of especially with the work I did in my life

Book series started

Faithful and the fallen- Valour
Legends of the first empire-Age of Swords
Ryiria Chronicles- The Rose and the Thorn
Brodys ghost- Brody's Ghost, Volume 2

Abandoned
Dragon Prince

message 36: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Made some good progress currently since I have finished The Eye of the World which was amazing and had bought book 2 and 3 as well as squeezed in The Spirit Thief which was pretty good albeit not amazing...yet

Will be finishing Storm front soon after some delay and will start Way of Kings sometime this weekend

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Thanks guys and I hope so too I've only read the first 2 books of mistborn and made through most of white sand so I'm liking his work so far and this may be m chance to get more into it hopefully

message 42: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Ok I think it's time for my end of month report:

This has been a great month for me reading wise since I've managed to read a lot of the stuff I wanted such as Eye of the World, Ready Player One, Storm Front as well as some graphic novels and maybe fifth season if I can get my head around that WTF prologue and the emperors blade which is a bit unlikely and the stone of farewell which is definitely not gonna be finished by the end of the month

Overall including graphic novels I have read 7 novels and minus the graphic novels I have read 3 and maybe another if I can get to it eventually

although I'm disappointed I put down Way of kings I will return to it on a later date

message 43: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments Nice month Ahdam. Having just finished WoT I'm excited to see you all starting the journey.

message 44: by Chris (new)

Chris (murphy44) | 710 comments Hey Ahdam!

I noticed on your list that we've got a lot of the same series going on. If you want to buddy read Stone of Farewell, I'll drop whatever I'm reading to do so, I loved that book and can't wait to get back to it. I'm also looking forward to the second book of demon cycle The Desert Spear, and Niki already said that she'd join me(us?) for the third. So if you read the first we can do that one too. Let me know what your schedule looks like so we can get some dates on these books! I'll be reading both The Ghost Brigades and Royal Assassin on the 5th of August, so for me, late August would be better.

message 45: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Hi Chris yeah I thought I would read stone of farewell and managed to read 100 pages but put it down due to time with buddy reads and I'm pretty booked up for august and September so if you want to read it October it november then I'm game

Also for desert spear I'm game for that as well but it may need to be a bit later as well especially with stone of farewell which is HUGE

I too will be reading royal assassin so see you for the buddy read 😁👍🏽👍🏽😂

message 46: by Chris (new)

Chris (murphy44) | 710 comments Ahdam wrote: "Hi Chris yeah I thought I would read stone of farewell and managed to read 100 pages but put it down due to time with buddy reads and I'm pretty booked up for august and September so if you want to..."

You're lucky that I have so many good books to read right now, October seems to be a long ways away to wait for such an amazing book. But I'm down. Don't worry about the size, good books practically read themselves. I think I read Wise Man's Fear in 6 days, and it's got 1100 pages. I'll be starting Royal Assassin late (probably around the 9th-payday!) so I'll see you then for it!

message 47: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Well it took me about 3 months to read name of the wind mainly due to it being the first fantasy book I've read recently and after I got out of my denial stage was put off by the series so wise mans fear chances are VERY slim

On a separate not I've not been in any mood to read certain book either because of my fear of over booking or just not not feeling to continue like I'm not ready to read this book kind of feeling so right now I'm putting own books looking for the one which feel right to read if that makes sense hahaha

message 48: by Chris (new)

Chris (murphy44) | 710 comments It's all good bud! Reading is meant to be enjoyed. If I start earlier, I'll let you know, but once you see my list that I'm putting together today, you'll understand why I can put this off to read with you at a later date! The Farewell Stone is just one of those books that I've been itching to read because we did The Dragonbone Chair so long ago, and it's still in my top three of best books I've ever read! Let me know anytime, and I'm down for it though!

message 49: by Niki Hawkes, I made it past GOTM... barely (new)

Niki Hawkes - The Obsessive Bookseller | 7639 comments Mod
Yes - good reading Ahdam!

And Chris is correct - I'm game for Daylight War at some point. :)

message 50: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Right progress so far:

I've finally read Dune and I loved it and I watched the film which isn't as good and felt rushed (however I've heard of talks about a new dune film coming and it will be directed by the guy who did the arrival, sicario and blade runner 2 so EXCITED)

Also read the inquisition can't wait for Battlemage

Right now I'm reading pandoras star and I like it but I'm taking a couple of days of to recover from it

Also I will be reading Valour early because I wont be able to read It anytime in September as well as shadow of what was lost soon cant wait for that

Pretty decent month although the behemoth that is pandoras star is taking a lot out of me right now haha
