Now his fathers family just want to use him thank goodness he has a few people who do actually care for him. I would like to know more about his mother and the powers he has inherited from her. Chapter 1:
(view spoiler)[Fairy interesting beginning though it will take me a while to get used to this style of writing. It’s very different to what I’m used to and so far it seems very very slow ._.

The introduction of our main character is interesting, with the story starting with him in the present writing a history of the... beginning of the country/royal family (?) and then switching to his first memory as a young boy... it’s really intriguing but I’m not quite sure what’s going on XD

Not quite sure why his father abdicated the throne though... was it entirely because he learned he fathered a bastard? O.o (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 4: (view spoiler)[Well it looks as though Fitz has finally met the assassin that he is to be the apprentice to (as per the title 😛). The tower/chamber they’re in seems very odd... perhaps hidden through magic (or skill or whatever it’s called here).

The assassin honestly seems like a pretty nice guy too XD wonder if that’s part of what makes him good at his job...? But either way, he has a pet weasel and that’s awesome 😐 (hide spoiler)]

But the bigger question here is WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE VILLAGERS. I don’t understand what happened on that boat? Did someone with ‘the Skill’ do something? How were all their ‘threads’ cut? (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 15: (view spoiler)[Okay seriously, WHAT is Galen’s problem? ._. It can’t purely be because Fitz is a bastard, right?

I’m pretty impressed with Fitz skill with the Skill too... I wonder if the innate talent for that comes from also having the Wit?

But honestly, the best part about this chapter is finding that Burrich beat the shit outta Galen in penance for him beating the shit outta (and potentially attempting to kill) Fitz. Well DONE Burrich! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 20: (view spoiler)[Oh shitttttt... looks like the Fool was right to give Fitz some of the Sea Purge stuff - because it appears someone has tried to poison him. The only question is, who was behind it?

Also, is Regal really so much of an idiot that he would reveal to people that Fitz is ‘the king’s poisoner’ (...kinda correct) or was it his aim all along to have them ‘off’ Fitz for him?

Really not sure what’s going to be happening here... is Fitz going to have to fight for his life and be suspicious of everyone while he’s there, or will he be able to make friends and allies? (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 2 (view spoiler)[I'm not a great fan of chapters that long, it'll take me some time to get used to that. But that's the only problem I'm having with the book right now.

I like Fitz and want to know more about him and his story. Poor Nosy. :( Even though I dislike Burrich because of this, I still think he means well for Fitz (maybe just for Chivalrys sake). I really hope I have more time later today to get a good chunk of reading done. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I completely agree on the chapters being too long! I'm definitely a fan of short chapters. Also, whoever made the audio book decided that the beginning of a chapter of the book should be somewhere in the middle of an audio book chapter which is pretty confusing...

I feel so bad for Nosy... I liked him and Fitz together, they seemed like a great team!
Right now I don't know what to think about Burrich... I liked him in the beginning, but now I'm on defense about him...
I'm curious if that conection between Fitz and Nosy was something special or if it's a general talent that'll work on other animals, too!

Chapter 9 (view spoiler)[First of all I have to say, I really like the book. I got used to the long chapters and couldn't put it down yesterday. Can't wait to pick it up when I'm back from work today.

Fitz started his training with Chade and had his first 'small' mission, which I think went well thanks to Lady Graca and her poor dog. How convenient for the plot... :D

Chade seems like a really nice guy, he cares for Fitz. Just like Burrich, but both in their different ways. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 14: (view spoiler)[First real shock for me during this part was, that Chade's a bastard himself. WTF, I didn't see that one coming, but I guess it makes sense.

I love Lady Patience! I'm sad for her but I do hope she and Fitz can have a normal relationship, comes the time.

I actually had tears in my eyes when she gave Fitz the dog. He finally has a dog again, I hope Burrich never finds out. I don't want to imagine what he'll do. But after all the stuff I read about him (Burrich), I think that he would never harm an animal. I can't imagine that he killed Nosy in the first place. It's so out of character for him. :( Still sad about that, though, maybe it's just me not wanting him to kill animals.

Galen seems like a character you're supposed to hate and I do hate him, or dislike him at least. I think he'll be bad for our poor Fitz. BTW, I probably missed it, how old is he right now? How much time has passed since he started his training with Chade? (hide spoiler)]

I'm not surprised that this whole thing turned out to be a test by the king himself. I actually expected it to be a test! I just wasn't sure who initiated it...
So far I'm not really sure if there is going to be a big plot to this whole book or if it's just going to be Fitz learning the things he needs to know for the following books in the series? I'd appreciate if there was more to it, though!

(view spoiler)[Okay, so this book touched on something that I really love in books and movies/TV shows: characters who are able to figure out things just by observing what is going on around them. (Can you tell I love Sherlock? :D) I think the main reason is because I always wanted to be this smart and have such a great perception!
Needless to say I loved the scene where Fitz figured everything out about the duke and his wife! I also liked how a small bit of luck helped him when he met the duchess in the kitchen. He solved the problem in a really smart way!
I wonder what is going on with the whole situation Chade dragged Fitz into!

Chapter 18: (view spoiler)[Okay, first of all: why do they always kill of the dog?! I was so, so sad when that happened. And they tried to get Burrich, too. At least he wasn't killed. But he's treating Fitz so badly now. Is his gift talking to animals really that bad? I don't think so. I really hope that they both can overcome their differences and he can be back to being a father-figure to Fitz.

I really dislike Galen. I think he's the only reason Fitz wasn't able to use the Skill and it's clear that he's the one who wanted to get Fitz killed during his test. Maybe he's working for Regal and they want Fitz out of the picture?

At least Chade is back and he's teaching our boy bad things. He's an assassin now. Still wondering, how old is Fitz? And I probably forgot to mention it before, but I really think the Fool is a good friend for Fitz. (hide spoiler)]

I'll get to your question first: I think he's at least fourteen. I think he mentioned that Molly is 16 and she's supposed to be two years older than him, but that was before she got together with Jade (?), so he might be 15 or 16 by now...
I hate Galen. I can't believe what he did to Fitz and I'm really upset about it! After his "fight" with Galen Fitz was a completely differnet person and I was wondering why he was doing such a bad job using the Skill (because when he struggled with Galen it was pretty obvious that he was very strong actually). I mean, it was clear that Galen wouldnt give him a chance, but I thought he'd do better with the other students... Obviously it was just because he was manipulated by Galen...
I love the relationship between Fitz and Verity and I actually started liking Verity a lot!

I'm still thinking about who tried to kill Burrich and who gave the command for that. I think Galen is a possibility or even Regal could have ordered something like that. Chapter 25: (view spoiler)[I never realised my kindle hasn't shown me the right %. The last 21% were an extract from the second book!!! That's why I was very surprised when I finished. I thought maybe the end was a little rushed?

The most important thing: NOSY!!! I was so happy to see that she was still alive. It made me so happy. I enjoyed the whole plot around Rurisk and the poisoning. I really liked him, sad that he had to die anyway.

Regal trying to kill Verity was a shock. Not so much that he wants to get rid of Fitz in that process. Good, that he failed at the attempt. But I bet it wasn't his last try to get to the throne.

I definitely want to continue the series, but I don't think I'll continue right away. The audio books are pretty long (the first one was almost 19 hours and the second one will be 31,5 hours) and I don't think I can spend enough time on listening to them to keep up with you :/
