Really wish I want to read this book. I was looking forward to it a lot! And it's letting me down.

Slowly but steadily Fitz is growing up. He faced his first disappointments, his first love troubles and his first fight.

I just realized something, in this book there's no demon to kill, no dragon to slay. It's just about the growing up of a bastard and it feels like a "slightly" larger prologue so far.

Yeah it's not exciting. I'm still behind and will probably stay that way. I'm stressing out over books so I'm just going to take my time. I do need to read this though otherwise I'll put it down and wont pick it back up

Chapters 9 - 12

(view spoiler)[I'm confused with the Lady Tawny thing. She must be two people - an actual Lady Tawny and then Chade in disguise. There's no way Chade could be her all the time she's out and about.

I guessed from the first meeting that the lady in the kitchen would be Chivalry's wife. Although I expected her to hate Fitz. He is a reminder of her inability to produce an heir for her husband and most women would hate to come face to face with that, even if he was conceived before she married him.

Also, Chade is a bastard and the King's half-brother. I wonder what their relationship was like growing up, if the King accepted Chade straightaway and why he works for his brother as a spy.

Sooo... does this series get better? I've heard nothing but good things about Robin Hobb and it's kind of meh for me so far. I hope to God the next book is better..

I've researched about it, read some reviews and blogs about it and everyone says it's a great series :D. Their explanation is just that #1 and #2 felt like one book! So I guess I'll stick through the first trilogy all the way to see

It's so frustrating because when I'm reading, it's all making sense, but when I put the book down I can't remember what it was I read, like all the small details about who is who and what they do etc.

(view spoiler)[Well.. this book was boring. I might be alone in this, but I hated this book. It felt much longer than it needed to be and a lot of stuff at the climax didn't feel wrapped up properly for me.

The assassination plot annoyed me. So you're sending this boy to murder the heir of another Kingdom, and his step-uncle has told the sister of that heir that he's going to be killed and he specifically named two people who would be coming to do it, and then he was gonna stage it so Fitz would be caught assassinating the prince, so he could also kill Fitz, and what? And then when shit does go down, it felt sloppy and rushed. Like the whole book up to that point is dragged out and it takes forever for something to happen, and then the the ending is rushed.

The last 2 or 3 chapters of this book confused the fuck out of me and I really don't want to read the next book. I don't care and I don't want to put myself through reading it and struggling massively like I did this one.
