Finished The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club: True Tales from a Magnificent and Clumsy Life today. I found myself laughing and relating to her stories. Sometimes you just have to laugh because when you stop laughing that's when you go on anti-depressants.
Went in search of a interesting inexpensive book and found two, yeah! I recently read Saving Rachel and enjoyed it very much. John Locke has two book listed on Amazon for .99 each. Today I'm starting Follow the Stone and then onto Don't Poke the Bear!.
WOW! I have been MIA for a few days because of my move but I still don't have internet connection @ the new place but I do at work! Happy Reading!
Just started Chef: A Novel. I needed something light because I can't find my GR First Reads win 22 Britannia Road. I am sure someone packed it in one of those "random" boxes!
Donna...I hope with some effort this past weekend things are starting to settle down a little. Hoping life gets back to "normal" for you soon!Just finished reading The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism
This is a compelling presentation of how free-market fundamentalists never really appreciate the institutions required to make an economy function well. They overlook the broader social fabric that societies require to prosper and flourish. Often with devastating effects on unemployment and social programs. The rich get filthy rich and the poor slide more rapidly into poverty.
Shock Doctrine mentality has often permitted governments to institute reforms such as deregulation, privatization after faced with the "shock" value of a crisis. For example the destruction of 9/11 allowed George W. Bush to launch a war aimed at producing a free-market Iraq.
It's questionable if society benefits from these practices...I can see parallels with present mentality in Republican positions in today's political climate.
This was a jump onto some non-fiction reading and has put me behind in my reading.
Thanks Babs! I hope so too. It's hard to unpack when you work all day and then have to come home to 2 toddlers who are hungry and tired!! (+ a husband lol)
Sounds like an interesting read and don't feel bad I am serisouly behind in my reading but I plan on making a comeback!

I'm behind in my reading too, but hopefully I can catch up this summer.Right now I'm in the midst of several books: my GR First Reads win A Young Wife, Angela's Ashes, Great House, The 19th Wife, Slammerkin, and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - all of which are really good so far!
I can't speak for the others but you should really enjoy Angela's Ashes and The 19th Wife. Read both and enjoyed them immensely. Happy Reading
I let someone borrow my next read (she reads quickly) and I couldn't find the other since I moved so I decided to start the long awaited The Hunger Games
I've read Magic Kitten 08. A Glittering Gallop & Double Trouble #4 - Sue Bentley and now reading 10th Anniversary - James Patterson
I have now finished 10th Anniversary - James Patterson. I am now reading The Trophy Taker - Lee Weeks.
OK. I just couldn't stop myself. I am now reading Catching Fire. I am hoping to go thru it quickly (which I have no doubts) so I can finish out the series!
Taking a break from Trophy Taker, The (as it's a bit much on my brain after reading a Crime/Thriller). So I've picked up The Boy Who Taught the Beekeeper to Read
Just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I enjoyed it very much. At first I wasn't sure I would enjoy the letter format the author selected for writing her book but it wasn't long before I became enmeshed in the characters and the storyline.Became engulfed in this small islands tales of German occupation. One always hears of the larger battle and conquests the Germans made and very little of the other every day people who were affected by the war, bombing, and invasion of foreign forces.
I am glad I decided to read this months selection
I read it a while back so things come back to me little by little. It was def one of those books where you don't think you would like it but you end up loving it. I love to read about WWII not because it is entertaining but because there is so much to it and as much as I read about it it changes every time and you get so many different perspectives.
I am starting A Visit from the Goon Squad because I left Mockingjay at home. But I will start Mockingjay when I get my hands on it!
Finished The Boy Who Taught the Beekeeper to Read - Susan Hill. Now going to start Bad Guys - Linwood Barclay.
Just finished reading Megan's Way. It didn't finish the way I would have expected but was enjoyable just the same. Some good twists in the story line midway through...and did an wonderful job dealing with death, dying and continuing on after losing a loved one.
Just finished the great Blood Atonement - Dan Waddell. I am now about to start Shadow -Michael Morpurgo
Finished the delightful Shadow - Michael Morpurgo. Now I am about to start Dread Pirate Fleur and the Ruby Heart - Sara Starbuck.
Finished the great Dread Pirate Fleur and the Ruby Heart - Sara Starbuck. Now I am reading Doctor Who: The War Machines - Ian Stuart Black.
Grrr....I got no reading done this weekend! It was such a crazy mess. Hoping to get some reading time in this week!
I have finished listening to Anything Goes - John Barrowman, A Certain Age - Lynne Truss, A Suitable Boy: BBC Radio 4 Full-cast Dramatisation - Vikram Seth.
I just finished Faces of the Gone by Brad Parks and it was really great. The first couple of chapters weren't that great and I was a little disappointed, but then he really hit his stride and the rest of the book was a great read. Four stars.
I am now reading 4 Gigs of Trouble by Stella Baker. The author is the aunt of a good friend and I got it because of that but it is turning out to be a really fun read. Perfect for summer. It is available in the Kindle store for only $2.99. I'll rate it once I finish, only started it this morning.

It's always hard to continue reading if it begins sorta slow or bad but sometimes you gets a nice surprise!! I found that to be when I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
