Christy, I am glad you liked The Glass Castle; I did too, very much. Are you going to read Half Broke Horses?

Babs | 258 comments Kate, The Handmaiden's Tale is wonderful as are most of Atwood's books. Enjoy!

Christy | 86 comments I finished Postmortem and I like the book even though the end was pretty predictable. Has anyone read Atlas Shrugged? I was thinking about reading that next??

message 1263: by Babs (last edited Apr 20, 2011 05:47AM) (new)

Babs | 258 comments Atlas Shrugged is an excellent book! It's quite a lot of information to read and digest but speaks to Ayn Rands theories of who in society contributes more..individuals who create ideas or those who work to implement them. (sort of which came first the chicken or the egg). Great minds refuse to be controlled by the whims of society and government. Very fitting in light of the trememdous polarization we see in our society today. It's a great read.

Babs, Thanks for the great info!

Christy | 86 comments I'm a little intimated by Atlas Shrugged so I decided to startThe Priest's Graveyard. All the reviews have been really good on this book!

I have finished reading Manhattan Is My Beat - Jeffery Deaver which was ok as 1st book of his I've read, started and finished Bloody Valentine - James Patterson which he never disappointed me in this book. I have now started Goddess of Vengeance - Jackie Collins. Also have listened and wasn't keen on The Various Flavours of Coffee - Anthony Capella.

message 1270: by Christy (new)

Christy | 86 comments Finished The Priest's Graveyard and enjoyed it very much. It has a lot of twist and turns so it's a page turner.

I love those kinda books. I am having trouble getting thru The Paperbark Shoe. It is good but somehow not really drawing me in.

I started to read Where She Went because i simply coildn't resist!

message 1272: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarah23l) Donna, I agree about The Paperbark Shoe. I'm enjoying it, but it's not a quick read for me. It's kind of a bleak story, but it's getting more interesting as I keep reading.

message 1273: by Donna, The Pusher (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
It gets interesting then fades. I find I am going uphill on a great story and then I start to slide down.

message 1274: by Christy (new)

Christy | 86 comments I just finished Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back, it only took me two days to read. I'm not the kind of person that needs to read this type of book to confirm my faith or belief. Some of the things this little boy remembers is truly amazing. It's not a preachy book just giving you the story as it happened to Colton.

message 1275: by Christy (new)

Christy | 86 comments Starting Murder at the Vicarage, Miss Marple is most excellent.

LOL I keep saying I'll catch up in the upcoming month and before I know it the upcoming month is already here! Just started reading Plant Seed, Pull Weed. In an effort to get centered for the second round of a three day mediation training this upcoming week end. It's intense and makes for a long week end.

A three day meditation training sounds awesome!

message 1293: by Babs (last edited May 11, 2011 07:14PM) (new)

Babs | 258 comments Oops!! Look again the word is mediation...although I do meditation too for personal reasons. But the mediation involves families referred by the court to attempt to mediate workable solutions to their problems rather than go to court.

Interestingly enough the practices of mediation and meditation do involve similiar shifts in thinking.

Didn't have a book on a bus journey, so I went into a bookstore and got 9 books for £15 (3 for £5). So I am now reading The Trophy Taker - Lee Weeks and its gripping me from page 1. Rumoured to be the female version of James Patterson lol

Christy | 86 comments Finally I finished a book! I just finished A Dog's Purpose and if you are a dog person you will like this book. This one dog is reborn four times and remembers his previous lives. It is funny and sad and a easy read.

message 1298: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarah23l) I'm reading my Firstreads win - The Year We Left Home. It's pretty interesting so far.

message 1299: by Babs (new)

Babs | 258 comments Just finished reading Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit. I enjoyed it lots...a coming of age story. Style is a little different and it took me a while to catch on the the rhythm of the writer. But on the whole I enjoyed it a great deal.

message 1300: by Christy (new)

Christy | 86 comments Finished Murder at the Vicarage. Classic murder mystery and I wish Miss Marple would of had a little more book time. She doesn't really come into play until the end of the book. Ah well I didn't figure it out and it was so obvious! :-)
