Christy -- your post is so funny because this weekend, I just picked up both The Book Thief (from a yard sale) and Still Alice from my complex community library.

Diane, How funny!! Great minds, right?!Donna, I think you will like Still Alice, if you are anywhere near your 50's it will scare you! I'm shaking in my slippers :-)
Finally finished Cutting for Stone!! It was a really good book I think that I had/have too much on my plate and never really had the time to really indulge.
Now I am reading a quickie to finish out the series Absolutely, Positively

Just finished reading Still Alice, I found myself picking it up and reading just so I could finish the book since I knew the ending was going to be sad. Now it's time for me to read a good mystery or thriller any suggestions.
Of course I am reading 2 books! Why wouldn't I be??? I am reading my GR win The Tiger's Wife in addtion to my Chicklit!

Find myself shifting back and forth between fiction and non-fiction these days. Very upset about the activity in Wisconsin and the middle east...Reading "The Family" and "Shock Doctrine" in addition to the "Red Tent".
Babs, Are you talking about The Red Tent by Anita Diamant? I read that awhile ago and really liked it and gave it to a friend and she hated it and wouldn't even talk about it. Go figure..
Yes, I believe that's one of our March selections to read. Anyone I've known who has read it loved it so I guess everyone's taste in reading material is different. So far I think the author is an excellent storyteller.
I've heard great things about The Red Tent and I do have it at home to read one of these days. It's a favorite of the leader of my live book club, too bad they read it before I joined.
Yes Babs you are right to each his own.Anyway I was on Amazon just checking out the books and found Saving Rachel by Donovan Creed and it was only 99 cents and my right index finger couldn't control itself. I'm on chapter 8 and so far there has been sex and murder. I know I could of saved my 99 cents and just watched TMZ or the evening news. :-)
currently reading Eye like Stars and I am in the mind set that I don't like it at all. The concept is freakin aweful and I just can't imagine anyone enjoying it. But - I think I only paid like $3.99 so can't complain too much.
I am embarassed to say but I have been seriously slacking!!! I have just been so busy with family/school/work life that I have just been so exhausted to read! Plus this weather isn't helping much!
I will be done (hopefully) with my 2 books by Monday.....?

I just picked up a great book from the library today and am loving it. I didn't know it was a sequel to book on my TBR list now I really want to pick up the first book. The book I am reading is calledDreaming in English it reminds we alot of Shanghi Girls so if you loved that book these books are great reads.
I'm currently reading The House at Riverton by Kate Morton. It's good so far, but it's moving along kind of slowly. I may put this one aside for now and read something else first.
I really liked The Forgotten Garden but it was a clunker!
I finally finished up on The Tiger's Wife and now just finishing up on Absolutely, Positively. I am hoping to be done with it today or tomorrow.

So my Book Challange is telling me that I am falling behind! I am trying to read another 2 books at one time and I think I am doing a fairly good job. I am aboput 50% done with them both!
I am still reading Half Broke Horses and started a short one The House on Mango Street

Donna, did you read The Glass Castle? Asking since you are reading Half Broke Horses. I started Major Pettigrew's Last Stand this morning so I am reading that and my Homer's Odyssey.
II did read the Glass Castle and it was OK. I am reading Half Broke Horses fror my work book club and it is OK also .
I just finished Saving Rachel by John Locke, just two words...don't bother. Started out interesting but the ending was too far fetched even for me.
Grrr! I hate books that are a complete waste of time. But The Glass Castle will be quick and painless! It wasn't one of my favs but it wasn't horrible either! Many people love it!
Thanks Donna, I'm going to start The Glass Castle tonight and I'm sure it will be ok. I remember hearing about the author quite awhile ago and kinda forgot about it until now. I'll let you know...
I just read a book yesterday that I think is a must read for anyone who has a daughter going of to college ( I know for me that's still along way off) it was called The Mockingbirds it's about a girl was dated raped a private boarding school and feels like she only has one recourse which is go to an underground student group for help not police or the school officals.
I'm reading Department 19. It's being a little hard to get into, but I get the feeling that after some of the characters stop keeping everything a secret and the action starts it'll be pretty good.
Bleh! I hate books that drag in the beginning. I had that with a lot of books but once i pushed through it was good so hopefully yours goes that same route!

I finished The Glass Castle and I really enjoyed the book. Jeannette Walls is really brave putting her life out there for everyone to see. Tonight I'm going to start Postmortem by Patricia Cornwell I just like the murder mysteries :-)

I felt the same! I am still in awe of the voice she choice to write the story with. It didn't judge the situation or ask you to feel sorry for her.

You are right she never wanted pity and for the most part they all wanted their lives to be better and did something about it, but what is amazing is that her parents didn't. Growing up poor is one thing staying poor on purpose is another. I'm glad I read the book.

I can understand that, I've got finals coming up that are eating all of my reading time right up.
