a piece of paper is found at a murder scene, it appears to have a small part of a logo on it. the logo turns out to belong to a small publishing company. somehow one of the detectives finds the actual book in a public library. he finds the page where the paper has been ripped. his scans the book and finds that it describes murders identical to ones that have taken place and the one he is currently investigating. he contacts the author who is devastated but not surprised at the call. apparently he has been contacted before regarding murders that are similar to those in his book. as far as i can remember it turns out that the author is the one committing them but he gets away with it and the last scene in the book is him sat in front of his laptop starting a new book.

Nisrine, what year did you read this book?
Can you tell us more about the male detective - e.g., lives in England/London/etc., skills/interests/hobbies, family/friends, part of a series?
Spoiler alert added to the topic header.

I read it a couple of years ago, i must have got it from the library so i'm guessing its not a very old book, say from the past 10 years. i also think it took place in the states, not in England. oh and sorry i didn't put spoiler alert in the title, this is the first time i post in this group.
Wow, I am interested in this book.
Nisrine, you can bump this thread to the top of the list every month or so. This way, it keeps your book more current, and more eyes will see it.

I know that this isn't the book you're looking for. But it has similar elements in it. Can't say anymore because of spoilers. Here's the book The bonecollector by Jeffery Deaver
(sorry can't put a booklink because I'm using the android app).
The Bone Collector for Luci's suggestion.
(And we've complained and complained, and gotten no where about getting GR more up to date with the apps)

This sounds somewhat similar to Lunar Park, where (a fictional version of) Bret Easton Ellis is told by the police that there are copycat killings inspired by his book American Psycho. I'm not sureif it has the library book detail though.
