I read a book for a book club somewhere between 2010-2014, I'm not sure when it was published. It was nominated or won the National Homeschool Book Award. It started with a girl in bed and a milk jug or carton rolling down the rainy street. Basically, the girl "wakes up" and follows inanimate objects like a milk jug and an umbrella, I forget how but she ends up in a crazy (possibly steampunk) world where everything is backwards. There might have been a bad guy with a top hat but I just don't know. At the end of the novel the girl returns to the rainy street and returns home to her bed. I think the cover had a face on it and was maybe a dark blue? but don't take my word for it. I never finished the whole book and my memory is sketchy but the writing was really interesting and I still think about it years later. Thank you for any help you can give!
