If you could erase one book out of your memory to read it again for the first time...what would it be?

I feel like if I had a memory eraser I would use it to erase my favorite books from my mind so I could experience them for the first time again! If I could do this I would have to debate between my childhood favorite of Harry Potter, or the amazingness of KMM's Fever Series. What would you erase?

What a good question! I would love to be able to do this! Sometimes just waiting ten years or so, between readings makes it seem like a first reading. My experience with Wuthering heights was completely different at 18 and 28. I would choose so many to forget: Dead Witch Walking, Rachel Vincent's Stray series, All of Jane Austen's books. Probably many more.

I agree that with enough time in between the same book could offer a completely different experience...but I'm a re-reader! so even if I can eventually restrain myself for a few years...it still means I read it at least 5 times!

For the most part, I consider my crappy memory a bad thing, but sometimes when I want to reread a whole series, it's kinda a blessing. Of course, when it comes to a year between books, it really sucks because I almost need to reread the whole series to be able to remember everything that went on before. Like with the new LKH Merry Gentry book. I didn't even read them until about two years ago, but when LKH posted teaser pages on her blog, there were two characters I didn't remember at all, maybe more. I started out loving the series, but kinda felt it dragged a bit toward the last couple books, so I'm not really looking forward to reading all 7 or whatever books again. Sigh. So it's a blessing with my favorite books, giving me an excuse to read them over and over again, but then a curse with series I want to continue but were not in my favorites.

I would love to be reading Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton for the first time. It's the novel that introduced me to Urban Fantasy, my favorite genre.

At heart I'm still a child, so the book that I would like to erase and reread with new shiny eyes is Asterix and Obelix Omnibus. Otherwise it would be Magician by Raymond E. Feist.

I'd have to say the Kate Daniels series, as I've re-read it numerous times and I'd love to capture the wonder again. I'm one of those people who loved it from the first book.

Also Dragon Bound. Just loved the tension and humour and the mystery of what the hell IS Pia.

I LOVED dragon bound! I never got into kate Daniels though...I tried but didn't finish the first book (which is rare). I think dragon bound was my first pnr though!

I am a re-reader too especially if the next book in a series is a year away. But if I had to choose it would be Connie Suttle's books (all her books I consider are brilliant). I lose all track of time when I read her books. :)

I'm a re-reader too :) Mostly because there aren't enought good books to feed my hunger and re-visiting the old loved ones at least takes the edge off between disappointments.

Every time of one my favourite series sprouts a new book I usually read 2-3 previous ones so that I don't have to wonder what happened previously. Delayed gratification is not my thing and cliffhanger endings are almost physically painful because I neeeeeeeed to know what happens next. I'm so happy I started Fever series only after the last book was already out. I think i would have quite possibly died otherwise between the books, it was so gripping.

And yes, I'm a scaredy cat, so if a new series looks promising I might wait until at least to or three books are out befre I dive in. I would love to be the one to "find" a great book, to recommend it, to be the source of income to the author and bublishing house in the beginning ... but no. Not with this temperament.

I just re-read again in the last few days - this is one series that I have already read 4 times (includng the British ones). From my youth, my favorite book was - I read that 8 times in the 8th grade.
