They are only like $10 each on B&N.com and I have a 20% off coupon, so it might be worth it if I like the beginning. Happy early birthday to me? :D
I had another Audible credit to use before the end of the month so I got The Circle. I have never heard of it and did not know there was a movie coming out next week based on the book. There are mixed reviews from my GR friends who have read it.I already have the other two books. I was thinking about reading Strange the Dreamer this month, but I can wait until May.
I have a hard time reading books someone says I have to read at a certain time. But if I can help out with the challenge then I would probably read
.

I'm also really curious about New York 2140 by Kim Stanley Robinson that just came out! "So far, American War is really great. Great characters, and interesting and believable plot.
I want to read New York 2140, too! I think I may pay a visit to the library the next town over to see if they have it. I know my library probably won't get it (too small).
I've already read The Circle, so I won't be reading that one.I'd be happy to read the other two, but my local libraries I frequent don't have either one yet:-(. I'll keep checking; hopefully one of them will get one or both books. I think A Gentleman in Moscow is on my library's overdrive website, but it had a huge waitlist. That's the downside when newish books get selected, it's so hard to get a hold of them in a timely manner.
Bethany wrote: "Caly ☯ wrote: "Bethany wrote: "I would love to read either The Circle or Strange the Dreamer, but I am SO FAR DOWN on the holds list for both of them at the library, and I've been trying not to buy..."What ever you decide Bethany. I just to copies of Strange the Dreamer and Gentleman in Moscow for $10 each on Amazon Prime. 8-)
I figure I can always sell them to my used bookstore for almost that much when I'm done.
Amanda A wrote: "I had another Audible credit to use before the end of the month so I got The Circle. If you feel like writing question for the Circle just post on the thread 3 days before they start the book. Or just participate in the discussion for 10 points. And it is only 12 days till you can start Strange the Dreamer 8-)
CrazyCat (Alex) wrote: "I have a hard time reading books someone says I have to read at a certain time. But if I can help out with the challenge then I would probably read

Kelly B wrote: "I've already read The Circle, so I won't be reading that one.I'd be happy to read the other two, but my local libraries I frequent don't have either one yet:-(. I'll keep checking..."
I hear what you are saying Kelly but thanks for trying. What did you think of the Circle?
Kind of scrambling to get through
and
before the week is out. We have a guest staying with us which is somewhat disruptive to my reading schedule.
Caly ☯ wrote: "What did you think of the Circle? "I liked it, but not as much as What Is the What. I thought The Circle dragged a bit in parts. I think It could have been a bit shorter, IMO.
So right now we have Amanda reading The Circle and several of us reading the other 2. I have already signed up to write some DQs for Strange the Dreamer, so if someone wants to do that for A Gentleman in Moscow we can get those 40 points as well. We also get 20 points for everyone that participates in the discussions at some point in the book.
Edited to note that Megan has signed up to do the questions for our team for A Gentleman in Moscow so that is awesome! Thanks Megan!

Thanks, I do hate books that drag. That other books sounds really intense though!
By happenstance I just bought
at Target the other day. I think the trailer looks pretty good, actually! I am also pretty interested in reading
. It has been blowing up all over bookstagram so I have been thinking about reading it. Guess we can put me down for that one!
I'm so glad many of you are reading the BOMs. They don't really interest me this month, so I'm probably going to give them a pass.

Diane ~Firefly~ wrote: "I'm so glad many of you are reading the BOMs. They don't really interest me this month, so I'm probably going to give them a pass."Not a problem Diane. It is why I am not reading the Circle. I can't imagine reading a 400+ page book that would not interest me with so many others on my list.

Happy Reading!
Diane ~Firefly~ wrote: "I'm so glad many of you are reading the BOMs. They don't really interest me this month, so I'm probably going to give them a pass."I'm with you on that. I'll pick up the bom if it's a book that interests me, but I won't pick up something that's not on my radar or something I know I won't like.
Like you said Caly - there's too many good books out there just waiting to be read ;)
Well now you guys are starting to worry me :P The movie trailer for The Circle interested me but sometimes the movie versus the book turn out to be two very different beasts, you know? Eek! ((just kidding....I hope, lol))
So I made the mistake of going into a B&N today. $45 later and I have 3 books that I love and had planned on buying for my collection anyway, plus The Circle, so I'm up for being a part of that discussion. I wanted to buy A Gentleman in Moscow, but it was $28 in PAPERBACK. I may end up getting it from the Barnes and Noble website. It's only $16 there, and then I can use my coupon on it (which I didn't have on me today).Long story short, I'm up for The Circle related shenanigans.

And I know how tempting bookstores are. I never walk out of one without buying " something" LOL. Enjoy the books!

Lindsay♫Sings wrote: "$28 in PAPERBACK?!?!? That is madness!!!!"I don't even spend that much for hardcovers most of the time, unless it's a book that I've been anticipating for months or years and will read it the instant I've paid for it. Like, I could totally see spending that much for the last book of the kingkiller chronicles, but not for a book that I'm considering getting 50% because it would get us a few extra points in an online team reading competition... Not to say this isn't important, but it's not $28 important...

I mean, yes, I have bit the bullet and paid to buy books for team challenges in the past but you're right, not $28 worth for one book. Maybe that much in total for a challenge but not for just one book in a challenge. It does make me wonder what the fuss is about.....I'll check the library for it though.....
I'm on the holds list for all 3 books but I'm way, way down the list. Like, #180 in the queue. *Cries*
Bethany wrote: "I'm on the holds list for all 3 books but I'm way, way down the list. Like, #180 in the queue. *Cries*"Oh, wow. I'm only #17 for
. I think I'll end up buying it before I get off the hold list. lol. I'm not that patient.
Bethany wrote: "I'm on the holds list for all 3 books but I'm way, way down the list. Like, #180 in the queue. *Cries*"#180 in line? Wow, talk about pointless..... I hope they have more than one copy or you'd be lucky to get it sometime within the next 5 years.....
megan wrote: "Thanks for accepting my friend requests everyone. I promise not to stalk too much :oP"Always happy to have more book friends Megan! 8-) I have read so many good books because of others reviews or recommendations.

Damn that is crazy! Our Library is not the best but at least they get multiple copies of most books,
I usually have the maximum amount of hold requests on books for my library's ebook Overdrive system. There are several books I've had on hold for months. It's frustrating, but I figure it's much better than having to buy the books myself;-).
@ Bethany - you should give in to the slump so you're ready to get out of it next week when it starts. :)
Diane ~Firefly~ wrote: "@ Bethany - you should give in to the slump so you're ready to get out of it next week when it starts. :)"I was thinking the same thing 8-)
Diane ~Firefly~ wrote: "@ Bethany - you should give in to the slump so you're ready to get out of it next week when it starts. :)"Probably a good idea. I've just not loved many books I've read recently, and it's hard to tell if it's me or them.
Lindsay♫Sings wrote: "Is anyone else doing the Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon this weekend?"I had planned to, but then a bunch of friends decided we were going to do all kinds of things. I guess I'm still kind of doing it, but not in the committed way I was last year. Realistically I'll probably just end up finishing my current big book.

Realistically I'll probably just end up finishing my current big book."Well that's something. I've finished the two books that I was halfway finished with so far. I'd like to actually win a prize for once in the three or four RAT's I've participated in!
Bethany wrote: "Oh no... It's just a week until the game starts and I can feel a reading slump coming on."I'm in one right now, and have been for about a week. The worst part is that my library books are really starting to stack up;-). I've renewed one so far, and have two more due soon.
I'm pretty sure I'll get in the reading mood once the challenge looms closer. It's almost like I don't want to start anything right now, and want to save my binge reading for the challenge!
Kelly B wrote: "It's almost like I don't want to start anything right now, and want to save my binge reading for the challenge! "Yes, this! I just finished two books recently, and I'm looking at my shelf thinking "I can't start the Circle yet, I can't start anything I won't finish in four days, and I can't start anything that is just a few pages more than the beginning of one of the tiers."
I've got a really short book that won't earn us many points anyway, so I might read that. Or maybe now is the time to read some sub-100 page novellas or graphic novels.
Who else is excited to start The Circle tomorrow and get a jump on this challenge???ONLY 3 MORE DAYS IM SO EXCITED
I need to finish my current read ASAP.....then I'm going to hold off starting anything until the challenge starts:-).
Bethany wrote: "Who else is excited to start The Circle tomorrow and get a jump on this challenge???ONLY 3 MORE DAYS IM SO EXCITED"
Yeah - Its CIRCLE day!!! I am going to try to keep up this time around! Sometimes I get bad about that. But I'm going to try! Daily goals, lol!!
Kelly B wrote: "I need to finish my current read ASAP.....then I'm going to hold off starting anything until the challenge starts:-)."I'm trying to figure out how to finish my current books while keeping up with the Circle
Bethany wrote: "I'm trying to figure out how to finish my current books while keeping up with the Circle"ME TOO!!!! I've got more started right now than I usually do...and I normally do 2-3 at a time. :\ I have an ARC I definitely wanted to get done before its pub date at the end of the week and one challenge deadline at the end of the week....a lenient audiobook....a free book that is expiring soon....I don't have to keep up with the circle, but it would be nice to....
Hey team! Ready to launch into a galaxy far far away? I feel weird not reading anything for the next day and half. But I want to wait to start something after the challenge takes off. At least it gives me a chance to read some of the magazines I have hanging around and get a few things done around the house. 8-) What has everyone picked as their first book for the challenge? Are you planning to read a bunch of short ones? Or just whatever takes your fancy?
I think I am going to start with
. I read the first trilogy and it was pretty good. At 337 pages it is a mid length book for me but should read pretty fast.

My physical book will be The Circle, I'll be starting Skin Game by Jim Butcher, the most recent Dresden files book, as my ebook, and I have a handful of potential audiobooks, but I'm really hoping to get my hold on The Ringworms Throne. Otherwise I'm thinking I'll listen to The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.
Omg, Ringworld, not ringworms. Darn autocorrect.
