I've read the first 20 chapters and I like the story so far.

It's great to (view spoiler)[meet these familiar characters again and read about their time with WICKED and how they all came to know each other. I wonder why it was necessary to keep Thomas and Teresa in isolation for so long. (hide spoiler)]

I think it's curious how (view spoiler)[Thomas's first friends happened to be the exact same people he ends up being the closest with during the trials. Except for Chuck, of course. I wonder if he'll make an appearance, too. And if Thomas and Gally are already enemies before the trials begin. (hide spoiler)]

I never knew that (view spoiler)[ Sonya was Newt's sister. How sad they don't remember it when they finally meet again. (hide spoiler)]

It's interesting to see (view spoiler)[ how Teresa's story continues with WICKED after the story of Kill Order. Also how Thomas's and Newt's stories pick up from the point when WICKED took them. (hide spoiler)]

I wonder if WICKED (view spoiler)[ actually switched on Teresa's and Thomas's mental connection or if Teresa really figured it out on her own. If she did, it was probably all part of WICKED's plan anyway, to let them figure it out on their own. (hide spoiler)]

Ok, so (view spoiler)[Chuck and Gally have both made an entrance now as I thought they might. It seems Thomas and Gally were not best friends even before the trials but Gally was not much different from Thomas's other friends once they realized that Thomas and Teresa are not entering the maze with them. I wonder (view spoiler)[what it feels like for Thomas, Teresa ans Chuck to watch their friends on the glade, especially when things start to go worse. (hide spoiler)]

I think WICKED (view spoiler)[ actually meant George to die. They only care about their variables. (hide spoiler)]

I wonder what will actually happen during the rest of the book since (view spoiler)[most of the kids are already in the maze. (hide spoiler)]

I'm up to chapter 8, so far I'm really enjoying reading about these familiar characters and being back in this world. It is really interesting to read about their time with WICKED.

Yes, that's how I felt, too! I've had a little pause with this but I hope to continue tomorrow or the day after.

Chapter 51.

Things seem to be heating up (view spoiler)[as the flare is taking over the WICKED compound. I can't believe they made the kids kill all those cranks. I wonder what happened to the guards who were supposed to charge in if things went wrong. Obviously they weren't in a hurry because they never made an appearance when the kids were fighting the cranks that were supposed to be asleep. (hide spoiler)]

I also found it quite annoying that (view spoiler)[ Teresa was all for killing the cranks, telling Thomas it had to be done. However, in the end the others did most of the killing and she was just holding a gun as a last resource. (hide spoiler)]

I'm hoping to finish this book today. About 60 pages to go anymore. :)

I finished.

I was surprised to see (view spoiler)[the scorch and Jorge and Brenda in this book. But actually when I think about it, it's just natural. It took WICKED several years to prepare the maze so, of course, they needed to start preparing for phase two early on, too. (hide spoiler)]

The ending really got me wondering (view spoiler)[about Teresa's role. Was she also deceived by WICKED thinking she'd enter the maze with her memories intact? Or did she really have all her memories throughout the trials. Judging by how she always seemed to root for WICKED even during the trials, she could have actually remembered. On the other hand, who's to say the note was even written by her and not by Ava Page. This makes me want to read the series again trying to see the story as if she had her memories all the time. On the whole, this was a nice read and even though I had some idea what happened before Thomas entered the maze, this story provided new insight and didn't get boring.

I've Finished. This was just okay. It answered some questions I had from the Maze Runner trilogy. I liked learning more background on the characters and WICKED.

The first 200 pages (view spoiler)[where almost boring (with the exception of the prologue). They weren’t exciting, full of action and tense like the other books were. It just described how he lived with WICKED and that he builds the maze and just a lot that I already knew. The first 200 pages aren’t renewing enough for a book that was supposed to have all the answered. I did like to read about what happened in the maze before Thomas and Teresa came in. (hide spoiler)]

I enjoyed reading (view spoiler)[about Thomas building the friendships. I really enjoyed reading about the interactions between the characters and the development of their relationships. I loved seeing the characters younger and the development of their characters and personalities. (hide spoiler)]

The book is well written, but it has some problems getting information out. I think that James Dashner rushed this book compared to the others and didn't put as much effort into it. It was a good book, but it still leaves questions. I have to say I expected something more. It’s not a bad book but it lacks of something special. It’s still a nice read, though, since it has the old Maze Runner characters in it.

Yeah, I agree with you on that this book was nothing spectacular. Like you, I also liked reading about the characters and their relationships and I Iiked seeing what happened in the maze. But plotwise this wasn't really an exciting story. I guess that was partly because I already knew most of the things that were about to happen and there wasn't so much action either. I think this was a good book if you like seeing the maze runner story from a different perspective and maybe get some new information as well. It was a quick read, though.
