Athu (athuface) | 15 comments Is it possible to show a series within a series?

The publisher Orient BlackSwan has a 'Literature in Translation' series - I'm working with the list on their website (http://orientblackswan.com/BookDescri...) as well as a hard copy of the series catalogue, which is more updated than the website as it was published last week.

Within this series, they have a series of four books (Sarasvatichandra Pts 1 - 4). Can this be shown as a series within the 'Literature in Translation' series on GR?

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments "Literature in Translation" is not a series as GR defines series; not all editions of each work are part of it, so it's a publisher series or imprint. You can put "Literature in Translation" in the edition field of the applicable editions, but it should not be in the title or a formal series.

Sarasvatichandra could be listed as a series, depending how it's normally published (I assume it's a translation of something, but there is only part 1 of it on here yet, and the original work doesn't seem to be here either.)

ETA: nvm, I corrected some things with the entry for Sarasvatichandra #1, and gave you some tips, but it was the amazon bot that added it wrongly, not you :)

Athu (athuface) | 15 comments Oh wonderful, thanks so much for the response as well as the changes!

As it's a publisher's series, would it make more sense to make a list? Say, for example, "Orient BlackSwan's Literature in Translation".

Additionally, could I request you to please delete the "Literature in Translation" series? Based on our conversation, it seems like it doesn't fit here. - https://www.goodreads.com/series/2034...

Thanks for your time!

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments NP! I found several other editions of the Sarasvatichandra, and gathered them all up under one profile. I don't suppose you speak Gujarati? There's an edition there that should have it's name in Gujarati per the cover, and the author's name in Gujarati secondary after the English one. (There's one in Hindi, but I confess I'm not exactly clear on the relationship between languages, so I don't want to mess it up by copying something incorrectly).

I created the series for the Sarasvatichandra. It definitely should contain the 4 parts, but I'm not sure if it was originally published that way or not (it does seem that way) so I also added the single volume editions.

And yes, this is a great use for a list, because lists can contain the specific editions you're adding. I can delete the other series for you, but it may as well stay for a day or two so you can use it as a reference to kickstart your list, just let us know when you're done.

Athu (athuface) | 15 comments Thanks so much for doing this! Sarasvatichandra was indeed originally published in four parts in Gujarati (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saraswa...). As a result, the English translations are also in four parts. I do not have any information on the Hindi one you're referring to, but I'll do some research and see if I can make the edits required.

Please do go ahead and delete the series :) I'll use the publisher's catalogue for reference instead, to make sure nothing gets left out. Thanks so much for your time and for your responses!
