My nomination for June will be The Great Gatsby. I have not read this book yet, but if it is anything like the film, it contains several large outdoors parties. And having parties outside is a nice way to celebrate summer!
My June nomination is The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares. I've seen the movies but haven't read the books yet (they are gathering dust on my shelf!). But they are certainly about a summertime celebration of sisterhood & life. :)
I second The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pant :) Love that book! and I already watch movie so I want to reread book again.
I nominate Fourth of July Creek. The name contains America's biggest summer celebration, although the book is about much darker topics.
I wanted to nominate a book set during monsoon in India, because nothing says summer better to me than that. But I don't know of one! *sob*
Can I nominate a play? If so, I vote for A Midsummer Night's Dream because... Shakespeare and also because of summer solstice
How about Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail? It takes place during the summer and its a celebration of one's self...

For each month we have a decided theme. This month our theme is Summer Celebrations. When you nominate a theme, state a connection you see to the theme. It can be very loose, almost any connection would be fine. If you could state a connection with these books then they will count as nominations :)

The reading group I host at Artizan street library really enjoyed a Thousand splendid suns one member thought it would become a classic read of the future and when she finished at her desk just before our meeting she was in tears
I nominate The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson. It was nominated for Goodreads Choice 2016 for historical fiction. It's set the summer before WWI.
I nominate The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han. It's a fantastic beginning to a series that takes you through a girl's life summer by summer and the celebrations and sufferings that have come with them. Incredibly well written and I reread the series every summer!
I would like to nominate Dracula by Bram stoker.. It will be an exciting start for this rainy season and much fun.
I would like to nominate Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury. It's set during summer and it'd be nice to read a Bradbury novel that isn't as well-known as Fahrenheit 451. June is also the month that Bradbury passed away so it'd be a nice little tribute.
I nominate Summerland by Michael Chabon. It's been on my TBR pile for a while and I'm interested in reading something by Chabon. And the title alone leaves no doubt about the relation to our summer theme.

But they are certainly abou..."I want to second this because I put it up for a nomination last year and I'm still interested in reading it as a summer time read :) The way the movie is (and the first few chapters that I read) it's just a perfect warm weather, summer sunshine representation of a book that gets you into the spirit of summer :)
And I know my next statement doesn't count but The Great Gatsby sounds like an awesome option too! :)
I nominate The Summer book by Tove Jansson (I will link this when I'm by my computer). It's more like a collection of short stories than a novel. It's set in the archipelago of Sweden (or maybe Finland, I'm not sure, I imagined Stockholm archipelago since there's where I've lived. It's truly plausible that it's Vaasa archipelago since Tove Jansson is Swedish Finn) during the summer. It's beautiful and melancholic, mostly about a girl and her grandmother and their adventures, or at least it's adventures in the perspective of the girl.
I believe it would fit both the theme of the month the theme of the year, around the world.
Thanks everyone! I'm going to nominate Victoria by Knut Hamsun. It is a classics work of Norwegian literature I have grown up with and learn to love. It might well be my first read classic, either that one or Treasure Island is my guess. It was the first book I though of when thinking of celebrations and summer. It's a cozy summer read to me and a celebration of young love.
And closing. Keep your eyes up for the poll! If you scroll down from the main page it will show up all the way down. Coming soon!
