That's great, I read it when I was still a young impressionable girl and idolized Mara. I also really felt for that guy who ended up with the death sentence from the grove???? That stayed with me.
Finished Mistress of the Empire. The whole series is a 5 star. One of the best I have ever had the pleasure to experience.

Good to hear. I plan to read it later this year.
Finished The Blue Sword. Started off slow but it picked up and turned out to be a great story. Will read The Hero and the Crown after I read Throne of Jade.

Oh, maybe I should give this series another chance. I liked the first book but found it tedious sometimes. Does Shadows Linger has a better flow?

I can only give my opinion but I liked all three books in the trilogy. I'm about to finish the last one. As far as flow, they all flow very similarly. I can see why you feel the way you do. The chapters are very short and at times I would think "why not combine some of these chapters together for better flow." Overall though, I still found them very entertaining and fun.

Yes Ma'am!
Yes Ma'am!

Any plans to continue the series? I finished all 9 earlier this month and it kept up the same quality throughout.

Yeah! I hope you'll like it.
I'd advise you to finish the Broken Empire trilogy before reading The Wheel of Osheim. I'm currently buddy-reading it (the Wheel) and there's plenty of hidden Easter Eggs you won't get if you haven't read Emperor of Thorns.

@ Bill - yes I plan on finishing the rest next year when all I'm going to do is the series challenge. I have so many open I believe it will be time close as many as possible. I may title it "The Never-ending Challenge".
@ Virginie - Emperor of Thorns just happens to be one of my challenge books for next month.

38, that's only counting the ones I have already started. There are some that I haven't started yet. Haven't counted those yet.

Oh, that's not so bad. I gave up counting series I want to start after 50... Don't do it, it's scary :p
@Bill: 81! Wow! Do you manage to remember it all or are you forgetting details about previous books sometimes?
My brain wouldn't be able to handle so many series :o

I had to be very selective and I threw several series out as a DNF or it would have been more.

I've not been doing very well at keeping up with my challenges with taking care of family and all. So, I have to say I've finished a couple more for this challenge with Prince of Fools and The Liar's Key.

Well, you're still slaying this challenge! Family always comes first :)

I liked the ending much more in the Red Queen War series than I did the Broken Empire series. I must say though, and this is only my opinion but, when you mix Sci-Fi with Fantasy it takes some of the "magic" out of it. I still enjoy reading Sci-Fi/Fantasy but I enjoy other forms of Fantasy better.
Heh... I didn't really like the ending. Felt rushed and anti-climatic.
I liked the Science Fantasy part until everything started to be openly explained (mid book, I think).
Much of the fun I had with this trilogy and Broken Empire was to try to figure how the 'magic' worked, and built an mental map of the 'hidden players' goals, alliances, etc.

You really do have to read Broken Empire first and it helps to immediately go into the Red Queens War. I have to admit I did forget some stuff from Prince of Thorns and the later books.

I finished Sailing to Sarantium. I am going to wait until I finish Lord of Emperors before I write a review on Sailing to Saratium.

He and Janny Wurts have some of the most beautiful prose in fantasy.

Sarantine Mosaic also has one of the best chariot races I've ever read.

Yes it does.

Guess I need to read some Wurts because I love his stuff.
Though Kay's style is a little more straightforward than Wurts'. Ms. Wurts' writing needs to be savored.
I'm making an adjustment to my series list for this year. Since the third book in the Licanius Trilogy doesn't come out till next year I going to replace it with the Healer Series by Maria V. Snyder starting with Touch of Power. I'll do Licanius next year.
Oh, I too am waiting for the release of The Light of All That Falls to re-read the first and continue the series!
You're slaying your challenge! :D

Finished the First Law Trilogy. It was a great read but I was highly disappointed in the ending and the direction the characters were taken. I'm reading Best Served Cold next but I'm not too sure I'll continue on in this world. This book will probably determine that.
I haven't read Best Served Cold yet. The ending of the trilogy was, in my opinion, very cynical.
I heard there's a second trilogy coming soon, after the 3 standalones + short stories collection :)

So far Best Served Cold is very good. But the First Law Trilogy started out very good also. So I'm staying very wary on this one. I love the premise of this one though. Revenge where there is justice is right down my ally.

I thought the stand alones were much better myself, could just be an author improving as he continues to write...
Ok, I'm about 25% through Best Served Cold and I'm really liking it. I hope I don't have a let down.
