What are you reading or looking forward to reading soon?

Doesn't have to involve dragons.

Maggie | 1 comments Hi! I'm Maggie, I just joined. I'm currently reading Broken Blade by Kelly McCullough. It's interesting because it's about an assassin, but he has a "familiar", or spirit animal, that's a dragon (seemed fitting for this discussion) that hides in his shadow. The level of description the author uses can be a drag sometimes, but it's worth it to get to the good parts!

Leira Roscini | 1 comments Hi! I love dragons, and when i see the group I cannot resist and i join in it. I'm actually reading 'The Bad Beggining', first of the 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' series, written by Lemony Snicket. I love the old film with Jim Carrey, and I see two episodes of the show on Netflix so, at least, i Need to read the series.

Talking about dragons, i'm curious: what good books/series about dragons do you know? I read Eragon, Seraphina, Rogue (just the first one, for now) and Firelight. I know another kid's series on the dragons, but nothing else. Any advise?

Temeraire and Age of Fire (not for young readers) are really good, imo, if you want "real" dragons. (aka: Dragons that don't turn into humans.)

If you don't mind shape-shifting dragons in a science fiction /fantasy world then Heartstriker is good pretty good too.

Wings of Fire is supposedly pretty good too. It might be the kids series you mentioned. I intend to start it soon.

I also intend to read another one called Tooth and Claw.

His Majesty's Dragon (Temeraire, #1) by Naomi Novik Dragon Champion (Age of Fire #1) by E.E. Knight

Nice Dragons Finish Last (Heartstrikers, #1) by Rachel Aaron The Dragonet Prophecy (Wings of Fire, #1) by Tui T. Sutherland Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton

Cassandra (abookwyrme) I've read Wings of Fire (it was ok) and probably would have liked it better age 10. (I'm 17 now). You're right about shapeshifting dragons, but I reckon Firelight is just pretty bad. Rogue is ok but the dragons feel like humans-who-turn-into-dragons rather than -dragons-who-turn-into-humans.

Seraphina is an excellent read if you are interested in dragon/human shapeshifters. Also Wyrmeweald, although that is more of a hybrid situation.

I haven't heard of Tooth and Claw, what sort of dragon book is it?

I don't mind shape-shifting dragons, but it does seem more like a superpower in most cases where humans turn into dragons, as you said, and still act like humans. Its fine, just feels a bit lazy.

Seraphina was an exception and very good.

It's odd. The summary explains it better than I could. I just heard that it was different.

I forgot about The Dragon Keeper . It's not focused on dragons like the others, but they are present in most of the story. Like in Seraphina, a main character is a human girl with dragon scales who travels through a fantasy world with a group of deformed dragons to find a lost city.

Cassandra (abookwyrme) Dragon Keeper is excellent, the portrayal of dragons in Robin Hobb's universe is really interesting - basically they are there to be as arrogant as humans and remind humans that we shouldn't necessarily be masters of the world.

Dragons are like the parents-in-law of fantasy. People whine about how they never seem to leave, but the problem is often that they're rarely there for a purpose. They just show up for a few minutes and leave and come back a few days later. I don't know if that makes sense.

I read many posts about dragon fiction and its always the same few stories being recommended again and again.

You might like the Raksura books They're aren't dragons exactly, but humanoid creatures with dragon features. Scales, claws, spines, tails, and wings.
