I am just trying to read such that I start with a clean slate on May 4th, so no in-progress books. But that's not really a requirement.

Thanks, Bethany! That makes sense if no in-progress books will count for the challenge.
Is there a folder/thread I can look at for past challenges so i can have some idea of what this is going to be like?

I'm Team C2-B5!

Links to some of the previous rounds are here. Not sure how much help it is (it might just be very overwhelming...)
Like Bethany mentioned, it's a good idea to try and finish the books you are currently reading and if you are the type of reader who likes to plan ahead, you can start looking for books to read. Once the team discussion threads are opened, you can also start getting to know the others on your team, send them friend requests etc. We will also make sure to clarify all the rules and make sure everyone knows what's going on before the challenge starts.
(You're on my team so I've just sent you a friend request.)

Totally laughed out loud!! ;)

There are archives for Team Towers 1-4 in the NBRC pages.

*claps gleefully*
YAY!!!! Haha I'm SO EXCITED!!!!

I'm the same way with libraries...

So, because I'm obsessive, I did some math.
The best pages-per-point ratio is a book with 901 pages, with 1 point per 6.93 pages. However, in many cases it's better to be at the bottom of a point range than read just any given big book. For example, a 161 page book (bottom of 2nd range) is a point per 8.05 pages, where a 900 page book (top of second to last range) is a point per every 9 pages.
So I guess look for books that are just over 100, 161, 351, 501, 651, 801, or 901 pages :P

The first thing I did when I got my first credit card was to go to a bookstore. Big mistake. (I was on a book buying ban, and general spending ban, for quite a while after that....)

I've had to make myself 'punch cards' for being allowed to buy new books. Basically whenever I finish a book I own, I can punch a card. Once I have 5 punches, I'm allowed to buy a new book. I'm saving up my punch cards to go on a book buying spree for my birthday. :D

Also I LOVE THAT IDEA! I need some way to stop buying so many darn books (online book sales especially kill me because it's too easy to buy without holding them in your hand or physically paying)

Sweet! Nice to have such a smart droid as my co-captain. *grin

True, but if you have a door stopper you want to read, you might as well save it for Tower Teams.

That's a good idea! My problem is that I fall for the coupons. I got to Barnes & Noble or the used bookstore with a coupon for 40% off one book, then I walk out of the store with 8 books. i don't think I've ever left a bookstore with fewer than 3 titles!

Yes, this is a problem I have. It just seems like a waste if I have access to a coupon and don't go use it before the expiration date!

... and this is exactly why stores send out coupons. :P yay, consumer psychology...

True! I've actually gotten through some of my door stoppers recently, because I was doing the "tome topple" readathon.

Nah. My daughter loves Vader, too. :)

I have a big ole book I've been waiting to read so this seems like a great opportunity!

Thank you! I'm excited to be on the team!

I found that was a pretty good strategy for the last Tower Team:-). Not that I purposefully went looking for books with those pages, but if it was between 2 or 3 books, I went with the one just a tad over the point range;-).
I've got a few doorstoppers I've been meaning to read for ages. Time to pull them out and check out the page numbers.....

I'm definitely a Sith Lord (Lady?!) at heart, but I'm certainly happy to settle for the cutest little droid around! <3

I saw your friend request :) I'm looking forward to being part of the crew! Especially if I can be Chewy. I make a pretty convincing Wookie noise!
