Aislinn Glad to hear it's sorted, Alex!

Groovy Lee It looks like a scene from The Bad Seed:)

I've reread the article and I'm seriously going to see if I can do this. Thanks for the reminder, Alexis:)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the best thread but it certainly has the Grrrr!!!! factor.

In my closely guarded email address I received an email from
booksauthors656 at gmail. Sounded good (of course). They think I might be the next great discovery (or words to that effect) and would I please contact them. Oh, no, no, no.

So I Googled booksauthors656 and it came up with a few Cyrillic letters so I asked for it to be translated (very silly me). Russian. It took me directly to a website where books were nicely displayed and decent titles (I think - I didn't stay long to find out). Then I noticed dear old Google alerting me to the fact that this had arrived on my screen through an unsecured connection.

I've given my laptop a quick scan and all is OK but if it's a sophisticated virus, it may have missed it.

If I had time to let every group know. I would. This is my only one so far.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments So do I, Alex.

Oh yes, I remember now what they said - it was 'a masterpiece'.

I do, of course, wholeheartedly agree with them :o)

message 155: by Marie Silk (new)

Marie Silk | 208 comments Thanks for the warning, Anna. I've been getting emails about "book promotions" from places I definitely never subscribed to. I'll be more wary of clicking on links.

message 156: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments I have to admit, not only is it giving me all kinds of anxiety trying to find people on a list of bloggers I have to send review requests to, it's also disheartening to keep reading "anything but erotica", "I don't read erotica", "no erotica." Then when I do find one they say they want a mobi file. I guess I use an online converter for that-no idea.

It's starting to piss me off even though I know I have no right to be mad lol

That's the list I'm working down. If you find any feel free to let me know. I contacted the ones Carole suggested. I've only contacted 6 in total and so far I'm a pariah.

I'm more pissed at Facebook rejecting my d**n covers all the d**n time when it comes to boosting posts. Sure they're sexy but come on they're not THAT bad.

IKR? Now my Amor cover is me pushing it :D (lol) but Veni is just two beautiful people kissing. Sigh, Facebook sucks now. I wish they were still the FB of 2011.

No, no, no, there will be no boosting of posts for erotic novels on Facebook. People do not have sex any more. Therefore there will be no adverts promoting it. Feel free to advertise beauty products that make me look like a troll. But don't show something that might look like people may touch each other.

message 164: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Anna, I'm glad you saw it for the scam it was. I get those now and then. I find if they're not from a reputable company the WHOLE world knows about, it's usually a scam. And I agree, you and all of us write masterpieces.

Amy and Alexis, I'm surprised at the trouble you're having. Erotica flies off the shelf. I think your covers are pretty decent, Alexis, so go ahead and rant.

I don't know how to covert to mobi, either. I thought Kindle automatically does that for you.

Dunno mate, but thanks for the sympathy. I'm so bloody shattered with the bit of list work I've done today I've published a blog post about my new trainers. #Desperate

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Groovy wrote: "I don't know how to covert to mobi, either. I thought Kindle automatically does that for you."

It does, but some people only want to be supplied with a .mobi file if they're going to review an eBook. I just got the hang of PDFs FFS!

I haven't looked into it yet, too much headache. I'm sure it's easy given some virus ridden online converter somewhere.

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Blimey, well I've got a mobi file. Question, how do I test it contains anything?

message 172: by Amy (new)

Oh no, Marie, I didn't click on a link - not one that looked like one! I just put booksauthors656 into Google and up came some Russian and I clicked 'translate this' and that must have been the link! They are getting very sneaky.

message 175: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Running through my list of bloggers to attempt to get a review from-just came across one that said they review dark erotica etc YES I thought, clicked on the link. Page Not Found...

Alexis | 861 comments Alex wrote: "I don't write erotica but that annoys me as much as it does the erotica writers, it doesn't seem right that Amazon will take money for selling books but almost actively discourages their sale."

I understand that they don't want to offend anyone but I know that they can track visitors movement via cookies. Just show the ad to people already checking out adult books.

Pissing me off lol. I don't want to do Bargain Booksy yet. I want to wait until I have a couple of hopefully positive reviews. The others that I found don't accept erotica.

message 182: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments It's a battle I've been losing for almost a year now. Can't boost posts on FB, can't advertise on Amazon (I don't even know how much that costs.)

And out of the list of 50 bloggers I've been through so far only 4 will read erotica. #Splendid

I need readers to tell me that the book does not suck before I approach Bookbub lol.

I haven't heard about Kobo. :) Let me go chekc it out.

Alexis, what I read of yours and Amy was as erotic as some of the bodice rippers I've read. Ask what the criteria is for erotica and then see if you can tweak the labels.

Kobo does take erotica books. I googled it. There was an author who said she's done very well, particularly in the discount department with her erotica/erotic books.

message 187: by Angel (last edited Apr 06, 2017 10:38AM) (new)

Angel | 723 comments Alexis, from what I've seen in the categories you have your book in and what the blurb says. I'd put it in the legal suspense category along with the already interracial genre/category you have it in since the main character is an attorney. That might give you lead way to promote it on Amazon if you play up some of those other elements, too.

message 188: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments My erotica is published on Kobo via Smashwords. Haven't looked into any promotion on it though.

Robin Reads takes "steamy romance"...is that the same as erotica?? My book does well with them under the mystery category. http://robinreads.com/author-signup/

There is also a division of Book Barbarian called "Red Roses Romance" that promotes erotica. http://redrosesromance.com/why-advert...

I have not advertised with RRR but I did get a feature with Book Adrenaline, which is also a division of Book Barbarian. I was happy with the results.

If you mean AMS won't promote your book, maybe it can help save you some money haha. I spent way too much on AMS with nothing to really show for it.

Good luck ♥

Categories and Key Words. I'm thinking of this, but like everything in life, I haven't a bloody clue!

Fiction/Science Fiction/Space Opera

Clutching at straws with the Key words of

Genetic Modification
Science Fiction Adventure
Science Fiction & Fantasy
Thriller
Science Fiction Romance

That's because a lot of women read that category. You'd be surprised.

message 197: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I don't get Amazon. 50 shades can get wide popularity, but they put the hammer down on others who write it? Like I said before, Erotica is one of the highest selling genres.

I'm sorry you guys are having so much trouble with this. And I hope the other avenues you try will work for you and knock Amazon out of the way:)

message 198: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments It's weird isn't it. But then I get it 50 Shades made a tonne of money. I've made 20 quid. It's hardly the same. (And I liked mine better too, there I said it!)
