SOLVED. Fantasy book, may be YA, similar to the Alanna series but in the future/space? [s]

The book im trying to think of is about a girl who pretends to be her brother. I believe their dad is in whatever version of the military they have. The girl wants to go to training school to learn how to fly spaceships and the brother wants to go to some kind of music conservatory. The girl pretends to be her brother and goes to the training school. At one point she goes to her male roommates homeland during a school break (homeplanet?). I think one of the boys at the school finds out she is a girl and beats her up at one point? The story ends with her dad finding out and bringing her back home. Her roommate who was in love with her picks her up on a spaceship to save her from her dad who thinks he is actually there to pick her up to take her to whatever punishment he wanted her to go to. I read this book a few years ago theough Amazon so im assuming it is a book from the last 5 or so years.
