Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finally finished my book that I chose for this challenge, but I am about to put my alternate group read onto the - started and not finished shelf. I keep telling myself that I need to finish it, but I am at a point where I really do not care about it. Do I just dump it?

message 205: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19214 comments Oh my god... 650pp of build up and the resolution happened in 1.5pp. I thought I must have been over tired last night and reread it again today. Nope, nothing missed as there was nothing to miss. Bing, done.

I want my month back.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19214 comments I'd laugh too if I wasn't so grumpy!

message 208: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19216 comments Oh no! lol That's awful and I hate when that happens, but I can't help laughing. The presentation was great. I can just imagine you reading it, then going back to reread it and thinking what the..???

message 209: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19214 comments I reread it twice to make sure.

Yes, I'm hanging in there. I'm about 1/5 of the way through.

I listened to it on audiobook and the narrators brought it to life for me.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19214 comments I can see that, Janice. How many hours was it though?

26 hours and 11 minutes. Flew by! :)

I'm at the half way mark. It has it's strengths and it's weaknesses. I want to smack a few people for being so stupid (husband), manipulative (first wife), and compliant (second wife). They're all miserable. And the story tends to drag in places.

I find that once I get to the half way point, it moves quickly to the end. It's most likely just a matter of perception.

That's not as long as I thought it would be. Ah well, maybe the print option wasn't the best.

message 218: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59990 comments It had two narrators, Paul Michael & Justine Eyre. I was really impressed with the accents that Paul Michael could employ. Even his female voices were good. I enjoyed Justine as well, but every time it switched back to Paul, I was clapping.

message 219: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments So, I had started Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert while away on my evacucation during the forest fire last year, but never got to finish. So, if I can pull it off this time it might be worth apprx 13-16 (started why (1), started when (2), pages left (3), why stopped (1), Bonus - not sure I can pull off Women's History (3), but should be able to do Ash Wednesday (3), and Happiness (3) . . . ) What an excellent reason to pick it up again, especially as I was really enjoying it at the time :)

message 220: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I read The Essex Serpent which I originally started last year but put to one side because it wasn't what I wanted to read at the time. Boy, am I glad I picked it up and gave it another try! I decided to start again from the beginning and I loved every single page of it. It was fantastic! :)

Janice (jamasc) | 59990 comments Woohoo! I finished my book. I wasn't sure I was going to get through it the second time. It feels good to finish it.

message 224: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments So, I didn't finish in time, but I did finish

message 225: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments At least you did finish, Jenn. Did you enjoy your book in the end?

message 226: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments I actually really did enjoy it! I think that it would have instigated some very interesting discussion as a group read. But, just talking at work about what I was reading has inspired one of the girls to start it as well lol. I loved the concept that we are all going to the same place, and it's the journey that makes us who we are.
