Alexis | 861 comments The brand, Navigating Indieworld, is growing by leaps and bounds. We decided there was a need for a collaborative marketing effort that required a bit of an investment to begin a website, giveaways, events, and special projects that are in the works. Our goal is that you will all benefit from this in many ways. We will ask authors to contribute (social media promoting, shares, tweets, etc) and the organizers will present you with promotional material and a really cool website that consumers can visit, etc. We want to build a large network and support system for all indie authors.

That's great Alex.
I have to go out now- but I'll think about it and send something longwinded and boring probably.

Alexis | 861 comments Thanks Alex, that's very generous of you.

A couple of things before you click on the website:
1. The text is temporary. Erin has offered to do the copywriting. I will make a user profile for her and hand over the reins.
2. The images are from pexels and might be temporary if you all think that we should make the website more colorful. I like a clean palette but I will make it more colorful if the majority says to spice it up.
3. The book event page is up. I've added the different genres. When you click on the genre, it leads you to the books that fall under that category. When you click on one of the books shown there, it leads you to the blurb, amazon link and an individual author page.
4. The author pages contain text/pictures that I grabbed from everyone's amazon author page. If you'd like to change the text, let me know. If you'd like to add your website, facebook or twitter, DM me the links with NAVIGATING INDIEWORLD AUTHOR INFO in the subject line.
5. I added a part of my own interview to the blog lol. If you have an article or interview you'd like me to include on the blog, DM me the info with as subject line: WAZZZZUP ADD THIS. Lol. Or "BLOG ARTICLE".
6. If your book hasn't been added yet, don't worry, we'll add it soon.
7. If you have any suggestions or tips regarding the website layout or content to add, please tell me in this thread. I'd love to hear them! No (wo)man's an island.
8. Our group doesn't have a FB or Twitter page. If someone wants to set one up, please do so! :)
9. Finally, here's the link: http://navigatingindieworld.com

I think it looks great! Very well organized and easy to navigate. I like that it is simple but the viewer can get plenty of information by clicking pictures and links. That must be a lot of work. Awesome job!

Whoa, whoa, hold your horses lol. We still need to add an about page and Erin has to fix the text before it's ready to be tweeted lol.

Thanks Erica!

Alexis | 861 comments I added Carole's book under the tab for authors. She didn't ask me to do this but I thought it was the right thing to do. Carole is always ready with advice or to hear someones rants via DM (erhm, erhm, yeah that would be me lol), or to offer her time and money by organizing swag bags etc. After shamelessly stealing her book title for the website's name, I thought a bit of free advertising was the least I (well, all of us) could do, really. I'm sure you all would agree!

But with your help, I hope that we can use the website to add resources, share cool articles etc. We won't just use it for the EVENTS. We'll turn it into a very cool, non-stuffy, informative website "FOR INDIES BY INDIES". :D

Took me like the whole night to think of that tagline. Lolol.

Brittney Leigh (brittneyleighbass) | 138 comments Here are some books to add to the site...

Paranormal Romance- Stillwell: A Haunting on Long Island by Michael Phillip Cash

Paranormal Suspense- Tortured Souls: The House On Wellfleet Bluffs- by Linda Cadose and J. A. Gerber

Children's Fiction- Can A Princess Be A Firefighter? by Carole P. Roman

Children's Non-Fiction- If You Were Me and Lived in... Ancient Mali Empire by Carole P. Roman

PS- Alexis, Carole knows you said one book each but the two children's books are different genres. We figured we'd try it out and if it's not okay we're okay with that too.

Email cnbbook@gmail.com if you need any pictures or anything else.

Hi Brittney! Actually, Carole is the one that said one book each. I don't mind. Look at her, breaking her own rule. :p

message 10: by Erin (new)

Erin Daniels | 286 comments At first I was wondering if all books should be displayed and not indexed by category - reason being that sometimes you are intrigued by a book you normally wouldn't be searching for. However, I have changed my mind because how terrible to have a steamy romance cover beside a children's book lol! Maybe next year we can have a larger general event and a large Valentine's Day spicier event? Half-formed thoughts, here, lol.

Yes, exactly what I was thinking. Plus it can become crowdy and overwhelming very quickly. Most of us, when we shop on Amazon, we usually go to the genres that interests us the most; this website allows for that pattern of consumer behavior to continue.

P.S. I hate the Pexels images on the Book event page by the way. I will try to find better ones on Dreamstime later. (Or if anyone has any images, let me know,)

I agree with keeping the number of books down to one per genre. If someone is interested in your book, they will be able to find your other books when they click it. I see what Carole is saying too with her children's books because she has fiction and nonfiction books which will draw two entirely different audiences even though they are both considered "children's books". My thoughts are that if you can justify why the second book is considered a different genre or targets a different audience it should be allowed. Just my thoughts though. :)

I was worried about reports that picture books don't always format correctly on Kindle and inconsistencies across devices. Words sometimes become separated from pictures or the pages become misaligned and suddenly you have two pages that should be side by side and aren't. I also know sales for kids picture books are minimal for electronic versions. I am currently researching my options though because I know some people like to get an electronic version first before buying print versions.

Updated event page: http://navigatingindieworld.com/portf...
I've decided to keep the Pexels images (you can't beat free) but I edited their colors so that the images match a bit. The sci fi one is photoshopped and is so cool, if I may say so myself. :D

I'm excited!

You may add two books as long as they are different genres, so you can add your YA Dystopian as welll. And I will add any info/links that you want to your author page.

I viewed it on my phone earlier and thought it look great, but then I opened the website on my laptop...

It looks EVEN better! Wow! Fantastic job Alexis. I am itching to share this on my fb page when it is ready. :) I really like the separate genres. They help organize the content and, when we get more authors, it will keep the list from being too overwhelming.

Come on- we need more people- everybody tell your friends about it.

Alexis- we have to set up the rafflecopter.

Also, do you think we should have a guest post or article, some blurb explaining something about us- what makes us as special as we are??

Yes the about page. I think you should write it!

message 39: by Alexis (new)

Alexis | 861 comments I've been thinking guys..
I think we should make it two books per person regardless of genre.
Otherwise it would seem like some authors get an extra chance just because they happen to write more than one genre.

I think it should be either 2 per person or just 1 book for everyone.
What do you guys think?

message 40: by R.L. (new)

R.L. Jackson (authorrljackson) | 856 comments Mod
I agree with the two regardless of genre

message 41: by Erica (new)

Erica Graham (erica_graham) | 1496 comments Mod
I can agree with two as well. Especially in this early stage since it would help fill the website up a little more.

message 42: by Carole (new)

Carole P. Roman | 4665 comments Mod
I'm fine with that- I was nervous at first we wouldn't be able to fit everyone in- but most have multiple books- Do you think we could put a spot where people can do boxes sets? Or series? Like a separate heading.

message 43: by Carole (new)

Carole P. Roman | 4665 comments Mod
Yeah! I panicked when I saw the response. I don't want anyone left out. Ever. All for one and one for all- but I think someone took that line already in a book.
Funny story- his descendant actually worked for me. His name was Dumas too. I can't think of his first name- I will probably at 2 in the morning. He was a lovely man and one day I said any relation to you know, the writer? thinking he would say no. He said, yes actually and told me some of the family history. He was a musician for CBS television.

message 44: by Alexis (new)

Alexis | 861 comments Carole, I think that there's a way that you can send one DM to all members of this group. You can use that to tell them about our event. I always get standard DMs like that from the mods of other groups,
