Paid Promotions - A Case Study of Experience

Thanks.Trying to group together to create a multi pronged approach.
The ereadernews promo ran yesterday and generated An OK result for a first run. My understanding is that readers need to see an add 2 or 3 times before they take the plunge.
Thinking about these efforts. They are all setup to service multiple sales channels like Google Nobo nook etc. Perhaps it is time to give serious thought to moving away from KDP as I don't get many kindle unlimited reads.
The two bargain booksy promos are coming up shortly.

14 sales in 2 days is not bad at all!
What were the costs of the promo? Where did 14 sales put you in ranking in your sub-genre?

Sub 100 in the suspense/thriller/vampires category.It provides a nice launch pad for the two BB promos coming up.
$40 USD.
I picked up another sale overnight, so I'll call this one 15 sales.
I would prefer to bunch them closer together to enhance the impact on my ranking which can pull in other readers. But a 4 day separation was the best I could do this time.
B-Booksy on the 28th under the Fantasy genre generated Hitting BB again this weekend under thriller genre which is a bigger market.

Got another 9 sales from the 2nd B-Booksy. 40 sales for a campaign cost of $130 USD.
Hmmm.
0.99. Some minimum royalty.At this point in the process I'm not worried about royalties. Just trying to find and connect with readers.
And also some ricochet sales may still trickle in. Hope these campaigns start some buzz!
i think this book has moved up in the sales rankings on amazon, no? isn't that the bellwether?

i absolutely agree. a business looks for growth in the beginning, not profitability--although one doesn't want to dig oneself too far down into the hole.
A reasonable budget might be between $1K and $2K per year for paid advertising and just do something every month to keep it all ticking over. And then let time do its work.In the other side of the process, I have to always improve my craft to produce a better product.

Hi Jennifer. Everything I've learned so far about marketing as come from this group.I'm very happy to contribute back anything I can.
The next promotion I'm planning is a free promotion where I will use multiple channels to hit the same window.ASA will be free on Amazon from the 24th to 26th March inclusive.
I've lined up Book Barbarian for an email.
I will use Ask David for twitter.
I will promote for free on goodreads, Facebook and Twitter using my own efforts.
I might do a free booksy if I can get the right dates.

I think it is part of the mix. They offer a per quarter opportunity. BargainBooksy is per month.
I'm still establishing channels.
BTW. Best results are on weekends.

The freebooksy at $100 for a free price promo was a bit steep for me this month.

For the investment, I would be looking for 500+.
Currently running the Free Promo.[1] Reading Deals ($29 USD) for 3 days of website, tweets, and emails.
[2] BookBarbarian ($40 USD) for 1 day of email, facebook and website advertising.
[3] AskDavid (<$10 USD) for a number of tweets to their followers.
20 hours in. 304 downloads. #3 rank in Mystery, Thriller & Suspense > Suspense > Paranormal > Vampires for most of today.
Well on track to exceed the 500+ downloads I was aiming for as the BookBarbarian promo hasn't started yet.
I'll be interested to see if I can hit #2 or #1 position this weekend.

Can't seem to move past #2 or #7, starting to ease off now, probably peaked.
Need to take a break with marketing for awhile as once a FREE campaign has been done plenty of the marketers want a gap before a PRICED (say 0.99 or higher) campaign is done.However I do have a Bargain Booksy in for Saturday 1st of April (hope they don't turn it down).
