1/14/17I read a dystopian book called Children of Eden. The idea behind the book was really interesting (the earth has pretty much been destroyed and the remaining survivors are living on limited resources, so a limit of one child per family has been demanded. This is the story of a hidden second child.) The writing however, just did not really do it for me. It seemed like the author wanted less to write a story and more to repeatedly (and I mean repeatedly) point out their views about different topics. Including controversial subjects in books is great. Books are a fantastic way to approach these subjects. And I'm not holding issues with any of the opinions he expressed. But it just seemed super forced and it's like he tried to cover ALL of them, as much as possible, anywhere that he could squeeze it. So it stopped the flow of the story and just ended up feeling like I was watching an interesting movie with a person sitting next to me giving me their opinion every 30 seconds. Four stars for idea. Like, two stars for execution.
1/24/17I read The Ask and the Answer. This book takes place on another planet after we have destroyed Earth. We are at war with the "natives" as well as each other on the planet. This is the second book in a series by Patrick Ness. The books are very interesting and unique, though they do take me a minute to get the hang of every time I start to read one. The language, grammar and spelling used is not exactly going to make English teachers happy, but it is done deliberately and doesn't take too long to get the hang of. Overall I give these books probably a 3.5 for the first and a 4 for this one.
2/12/17The Eleventh Plague is about the aftermath of a war between The US and China, in which China ends up releasing a plague wiping out most of our population. I really expected the book to have more to do with the actual plague, due to the title, but there was little more than mention of it and no actual death by plague during the course of the book. This book was okay. Just okay. The characters were okay. Their motivations were okay. Sometimes they did things that were really heartfelt and touching and other times they did things that I didn't think were very realistic. The conflicts in the story were okay. The pace was okay. Overall just okay. Not bad, not fabulous, just okay. Three stars.
And finally, for now, Fahrenheit 451 which I absolutely loved. I very much recommend that everyone read this book. For one, it's about the importance of books, so...yeah. This book shows a dismal future in which books have been banned and are burned by firemen. Media controls the world. The government is corrupt. It is all very grim. Then one of the firemen becomes curious about books. The story is dark and points out a lot flaws within the MCs world. And a lot of these flaws are very present in our current culture. I really enjoy this book. Five stars all the way.Whew. Alright, that's my dystopian so far this year.

Read The Shade of the Moon. This is the final book in the Last Survivors series. The series is about the aftermath of an asteroid knocking the moon closer to earth. The first three books could have stood on their own and this was my least favorite of all, mostly because it focused on a character from the first three that just wasn't my favorite. But the book was still well written and paced and still enjoyable.
