colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I'm almost finished A Spark Unseen, sequel to The Dark Unwinding.

My feelings towards it are mixed. I like it, I do... but this one is more sort of intrigue/mystery and I kinda of miss the more gothicy elements from the first book.

So I guess I am liking it, but I'm also a bit disappointed that it's not quite what I was anticipating...

message 210: by Lee (new)

Lee | 939 comments Finished Prince of Fools and I loved it. In a way it is Prince of Thorns 2.0. But - Lawrence has become a better writer between series. I liked Thorns but it was rough around the edges. Fools is a much smoother ride. And is one of my favorite books so far this year.

Next up is The Alchemist of Souls. A little late in the month but I should finish before July. ;)

message 211: by Paolo (new)

Paolo (ppiazzesi) | 166 comments I finished The Left Hand of Darkness, which was slow at times but I'm glad I read it, and Annihilation, which was fucking amazing. I will pick up the second book soon.

Now I started Blindsight for next month's read and the prologue ends on an awesomely horrifying note. I think I really like this whole sci-fi/horror thing.

message 212: by Christine (new)

Christine (inhalesbookslikepopcorn) I started The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde to close the month with a shorty.

No more than anyone else here. ;)

message 215: by Sam (new)

Sam Leeves Just finished Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett (on app, so can't link. Sorry...) which I absolutely loved. I've just started The Broken Kingdoms by N.K Jemisin which is interesting so far. It's the second in the Inheritance Trilogy which seems to have really divided people, so I'm intrigued to see how it plays out :)

If you like Dune, you should look at the Destination:Void series, also from Frank Herbert. Book 1, Destination:Void, is hard to read as it's like an essay on what makes a person, or a computer sentient, but the next three books are AWESOME!!! Jesus Incident, Book 2 in the Destination: Void is incredible, I'm reading that now. I'd highly recommend books 2, 3 and 4.

I'm a big fan of Jemisin. I know some readers think she's a little too "romance-y" but I love her style. It's so different from anything else I've read.

I also got Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal: The Novelization. But I'm not sure if I ever saw that one. If I did I don't remember it.
