I will go quickly through this one. If I put comments pertaining to the plot I will use spoilers.

I like Harry, but what is it that is attracting all these powerful women? Is it the close contact with the yumminess that is Thomas or that he has destroyed some seriously powerful bad guys?

message 4: by Lys (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lys (lysrowan) Maybe it's that all women are attractive to Harry?

message 5: by Lys (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lys (lysrowan) Did you guys read the stories in Side Jobs that go between the last book and this one?

There was one about Thomas' birthday, and another about Gard (Marcone's magically adept security consultant) that both took place before this one.

All except you. lol

message 7: by Lys (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lys (lysrowan) Hey now. I said "attractive" not "attractED". Sometimes I think he is an unreliable narrator on how attractive women are. He likes them all. So maybe he attracts so many attractive women because he thinks they are all attractive?
:P

Just teasing Alyssia. He does have some great qualities and others that can grate on the nerves. He is very good to women and children, a loyal friend, very protective and willing to sacrifice himself.

message 9: by Lys (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lys (lysrowan) Of course, of course. But I'll take Thomas any day.

While he is good to women and general thinks well of them, but sometimes his behavior is condescending.

I just checked the book out from the library but haven't started on it yet. I am hoping to read it this weekend - at least the ones up to where we are now.

There's another one after this book, so that'll work out. I keep popping back and forth.
You'll be pretty surprised about Gard, I think.

I'll let you know when I read them.

FFS don't read the one after Changes untill you finish that book.
it has all the massive spoilers that could ever spoil the [spoilers removed] feels.
unless you want the feels to be mitigated. I dunno. I don't really mind spoilers so much. but then again, i am a robot.

Haha, thanks! I hate spoilers, but I'm horrible about looking ahead at next books in the series, and even just reading book descriptions a lot of times gives stuff away that I didn't want to know. I'll just read the stories up to where we are now and then read them as we go.

Gwenn (idlecuriosity) Alyssia wrote: "Maybe it's that all women are attractive to Harry?"

I think that is exactly it. I can't think of a woman he hasn't sexualized... oh, Mother Winter.
He finds all women sexually attractive, even Georgia who he discribes as being plain. but some aspects of her he still will be dramatic about describing. and it gets sorta draining to read it over and over and over again.

They comment on this in teh RPG setting book, where they illustrate a lot of the nearly naked supermodels that are usuallly kicking Harry's butt.

There was a lot LESS sexualizing of the lady who turned out to be a guy in a turtleneck. Go figure.
:(

So where is everyone on this? I'm behind, of course. I always try to do too much at once :) Don't worry, I'll catch up.

I just finished it. As always a lot of stuff going on in this one. The Archive is one bad-ass little girl. I can't imagine having all that knowledge and power since she was born. That would totally suck and be cool at the same time. She had no childhood or friends.

message 21: by Lys (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lys (lysrowan) I'm way behind. I've had an interesting week with some computer problems and job stuff. I'll catch up (hopefully) before we read the next one). Sorry!

I'm still reading Alyssia. I was having a hard time getting into it for some reason and let myself get sidetracked by other things. I'm hoping to be finished today.

Are we reading Shield of Winter this week?

That's fine with me.

Lys (lysrowan) I would like to, yes :D

And I will hopefully finish Small Favor soon.

So we haven't really discussed this one. Have you finished Alyssia?

What did you guys think of (view spoiler)

message 26: by Lys (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lys (lysrowan) I haven't. It's on the list for today.
It's going on and on and on.
Right now, Harry is at Shedd with the Archive.

I'm getting that with them, too. Right in the middle they've been seeming to drag a lot. Once I get past that point everything's good and I end up enjoying the book, but I know what you mean.

message 28: by Lys (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lys (lysrowan) I think sometimes there's too much going on in a book. It's like Butcher thinks he needs to have multiple threats all at once AND a surprise twist/aha! moment EVERY TIME or he'll lose his audience.
I feel like the books are getting fairly formulaic?
I like them, but they definitely drag.

I am getting the same feeling. I have enjoyed them but at times it feel repetitious.

I set up a thread for Turn Coat:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Want me to set one up for Iron Kissed (Mercy Thompson, #3) by Patricia Briggs too? Vaughn said she's ready to start, too...so whenever you all want to start.

I sent up one for Iron Kissed, too. I figured people can just start when they are ready. I probably won't start it until Sunday.

Lys (lysrowan) You're awesome! :)

message 34: by Lys (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lys (lysrowan) I finally finished it.
I'm glad that Michael is getting retirement? I guess?
Eh. This one didn't do much for me. There were a lot of inconsistencies and minor annoyances, and it took me a while to get through.
The short story following it in Side Jobs is pretty cute though. There are several, but I read the one about the Day Off this morning.

What do you two think about (view spoiler)
How long until she dies some horribly painful death?
I'm thinking .. Turn Coat. What with the betrayal implied. Eh?

I would like to see more of Molly in the action. She's been his apprentice now for three years?

Re you spoiler - I could take it or leave it. I'm not a huge fan of Luccio. I don't necessarily hate her, I guess I'm must indifferent towards her.

So who do you think will/should get the sword(s)? My guesses would be (view spoiler)

message 36: by Lys (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lys (lysrowan) I would love it if Thomas got one. =D
Buuuut, that would be too awesome.
It's clear Murphy should get one? They've been hinting at it for books on end. I don't know about the other one?
What do you think?
Will Harry wield one? I really don't see that being a good option.

I've been reading through the short stories. I'm not usually a fan of shorts just because they usually aren't tied to the stories in any way other than having the same characters. However, these ones are integrated into the novels, which is neat.

The first one is how Dresden and Murphy met. Not a super great story by itself, but I like that we got to see that initial meet.

Loved Billy and Georgia's wedding story.

Ooh, I hadn't even thought about Thomas :)

message 39: by Lys (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lys (lysrowan) I'm on one that is narrated by Thomas and it is making me SOOO VERY HAPPY.
also, listening to Marsters being Thomas being sexually aroused ... is criminal fun.

message 40: by Lys (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lys (lysrowan) I liked te Billy and Georgia story too. And like I said, I think you'll like the Gard one.

I wish I had these on audio :( I loved Marsters' voice for these books. I had audio for the first five but have been reading them since.

It would be ...amazing.

Amazing.

Lys (lysrowan) Sanya is a man who wanted redemption, right? Kinda like Thomas, fighting against his demon. Not to mention - Thomas is a prince-of the white court. He's very principled and he has put himself in harm's way for innocents on multiple occasions. If Harry has the attention of God, why not Thomas? Also, he might have a coin on him. Annnnd...he already knows how to wield a sword. Also: hot

I forgot about Sanya. He was one of the coin holders for a while...so you make good points for Thomas. Also: hot :D

I want to see more from Molly, too. Would that be something to have Thomas a sword bearer. He is so yummy! Can we make that happen? That would up his hotness. I was sad about Michael. Be careful what you wish for...you may get it but not the way you want it.

Has anyone seen The Fault In Our Stars? You know it is a bad sign we you start crying during the previews. I am emotional spent. My poor baby girl cried her eyes out. Mom to the rescue with chocolate candy, cherry coke and a funny movie. We ate all the candy and laughed on the couch. Good times!

I haven't seen it, and I'm not sure I want to. I loved the book and don't want it ruined by the movie. Is the movie good?

message 49: by Lys (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lys (lysrowan) I'm going to see the movie soon. I loved the book. I hope the movie is pretty good. The author is on Tumblr though, and I follow him. He seems really happy with it, so I take that as a good sign.

The movie is very good. It says true to the book but of course book has more. They kept the best quotes/scenes.
