My father used to tell me tales about his life as a hero.
The slaying of monsters, completion of quests, performing in theaters, talking in the Local Tavern... It all enthralled me.
My dream was to become a hero, just like him.
Of course, without the early retirement...
I spent most of my childhood learning about the different beasts, rules, and the proper precautions to take.
One of the most important lessons of his was this:
DOUBLE CHECK.
He drilled those two words into my head, over and over again...
Probably so that I wouldn't make the same mistakes as he did.
Now, as Queen Skye lifts her blade from my shoulder, I cannot smother the excitement which I am filled with.

I use The Giver (#1), Tokyo Ghoul, tome 1 (#1), 東京喰種トーキョーグール 2 Tokyo Guru 2 (#2), 暗殺教室 1 Ansatsu Kyoushitsu 1 (#1), 暗殺教室 2 Ansatsu Kyoushitsu 2 (#2, 暗殺教室 3 Ansatsu Kyoushitsu 3 (#3), Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (#1), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (#2), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (#3) and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (#4) to Level Up my Staff.
Staff is now Level 4 with an AP of 6.

Accept & Complete My Name Is Quest by introducing myself in the Local Tavern.

I gain 3 EXP.

l venture out into a forest, and come upon the tracks of a Sewer Rat. Perfect.
I follow its trail, and find it chewing upon a piece of bread.
I hide behind a bush, grasp my Staff with my right hand, pull it out of its strap on my back, and pounce upon the unsuspecting beast.

Attack Sewer Rat with Staff (-6 HP, 0 Remaining).
Sewer Rat Dies.
Gain 1 EXP.
Sewer Rats will evade me until 2/8/17.

I leave the Sewer Rat's corpse, and start to walk towards the east.
Up along the path, I notice the rustling of a bush.
Most probably a Goblin.
I crouch, sneak up behind the bush, and whack whatever's in it with my staff, which earns me a scream of both pain and surprise.

Attack Goblin with Staff (-6 HP, 4 Remaining).

The Goblin stumbles out of the bush, shakes it head, regains it senses, and whacks my right leg with its stick, fast and furious like.

Goblin Attacks (-6 HP, 4 Remaining).

I stumble, but quickly regain my balance.
Next, I tightly grip my Staff with both hands, and smack the Goblin's little green head like a baseball playeras hard as I can, separating it from the neck with a crunch.
It flies pretty far.

Attack Goblin with Staff (-6 HP, 0 Remaining).
Goblin Dies.
Gain 1 EXP & 1 Goblin Bone.
Goblins will evade me until 2/8/17.

Suddenly, I feel a faint rustling within myself. The bruise which the Goblin inflicted upon my leg starts to disappear.
My energy returns.
I feel... Rejuvenated.

Level Up.
HP bar refills.
Gain +2 Max HP.

Energy refilled, I walk back to the barracks.
I am still too full of energy to sleep, so I scan through the Quest List.
A Quest near the top of the list catches my eye. Seems easy enough, so I take it.

I go to the Local Tavern, have a chat with Lady Tea (wonderful person), then return to the barracks.
I shall never look at stew the same way again.

I awaken from a dreamless sleep, stretch a bit, and get ready for another lazy day.
Then, as I head out the door, I catch sight of the calendar.
I turn back, wear my armor, grab my Staff but leave my Sword, then head for the forest.
I quickly find a Sewer Rat's tracks.
I follow them, head bent down, following the tiny paw prints, or whatever you call them. They continue in and on and on in a straight line.
Suddenly, they veer right, then, after a few inches, turn back, forming an upside down U.
I still follow, and notice that these tracks are fresher than the others. I grip my staff, crouch, then follow.
The tracks end in front of a tree.
Which means...
I quickly snap my head up, and the Sewer Rat lunges at my face with an ear deafening shriek,
What happens next is due to instinct. I pull my Staff out, and swing as hard as I can.
My Staff collides with the rat's body, producing a sickening squishing and crunching sound.

Attack Sewer Rat (-6 HP, 0 Remaining).
Sewer Rat Dies.
Gain 1 EXP.
Sewer Rats Will Evade Me Until 2/16/17.

I sigh, strap the staff back to my back, then turn to leave. Suddenly, I remember what Lady Tea told me,
This would be disgusting, but I guess I owe it to the Tavern...
I inch closer to the deformed rat corpse.
It is messy and squishy and oozing blood and smells oh so terrible...
Wait a minute! I don't owe the Tavern anything!
I turn around and leave the corpse behind, and head for the Tavern. Then, suddenly a thought comes to me. Perhaps I could bribe the bartender with this.
So, I gingerly pick it up by the tail, using only my thumb and index finger, and go to the Tavern, the rat dripping all the way.
I enter. The bartender catches sight of me. Then, he catches sight of the rat.
His face turns lurid, and he motions for me to enter from the back, which I do.
"What in blazes do you think you're doing?" he asks, waiting in front of the back door.
"Umm... Delivering you some ingredients for your stew?" I answer, puzzled.
"Yes, in front of all my customers!"
"Oops."
He sighs, mutters something about too many close calls, the same dude not perks up,
"Who told you what it was made of?"
Not wanting to tell on Lady Tea, but not wanting to lie, either, I say, "Umm... Someone."
The bartender sighs, shakes his head, and holds out his hand for the corpse. "Thank you."
"Umm... Actually, I wanna trade."
"For what?" he asks, narrowing his eyes at me.
"Give me a drink, and you have yourself a corpse."
"You know I don't give alcohol to minors."
"C'mon! The rat's calling out to you."
He stares at me long and hard, then says, "Nope. Can always ask someone else to bring me a rat."
I sigh. I already knew this would happen.
"Ok... Take it anyway." I hand over the Sewer Rat.
"Thx! Hey, tell you what, you can have a bowl of stew, on the house."
I take a look at the squishy corpse. The bartender holds with his whole hand.
"Umm... I'll pass, thanks."
"Well, at least come in."
"Umm... Ok."
I enter through the back door with him, and, for the first time, enter the Tavern through behind the bar.
Lady Cathy M. is sitting on a chair, a shiny, white egg on the table in front of her.
She shouts:
"I have another egg up for grabs for whoever wants it! Good through Saturday!"
An egg?
It must have been one of those magical, healing bunny eggs I had read about...
"I'll take it, if it's still up for grabs."
She turns towards me, smiles, and says, "It's all yours!" and hands me the egg.
"Thanks!" I say, and accept it, smiling.

Recieve Bunny Egg from Ser Cathy M. (Good till 2/11/17).

I guess good things come to those who give... Even if what they give is a mushy rat corpse.

It's been less than a month since I've begun my life as a knight, and I'm starting to notice some things, such as the fact that walking all the way to and through the forest sucks, hurts my legs, and gets different kinds of poop stuck to my soles, which has earned me a laugh or two from the other knights...
And also, I desperately need some company.
I've been thinking of getting a pet using some of the books that my dad gave me...
I rifle through the quests, searching for something I can use them for...
Rock, no.
Bunny, no.
Dog, no.
Horse... Hmmm... That could work!

Accept Two Halves of a Cocunut Quest.

Find all the items to receive your very first horse.
1) Gold to Buy Horse - Read a book with a mainly gold cover or one set in an era where gold is used as the main currency.
2) Riding Clothes - Read 3 books under 200 pages.
3) Horseshoes - Read a book with horses as a main part of the story or one set on a farm.
4) Horse Armor - Read a book over 600 pages.
5) Saddle - Read a book that has 2 d's in the title.
6) Sugar for Treats - Read a book that's sweet (chic lit, romance, cozy mystery, etc.)
7) Apples for Treats - Read a book with a mainly red cover or one featuring a teacher.
8) Carrots for Treats - Read a book where someone dangles a reward to get someone else to do something.
9) Hay for Feeding - Read a book with the title starting with the letter H.
10) Bribe for the Stable Master to allow you to pick your horse - Read a book where someone takes or gives a bribe or where the main character is a thief.

You may choose 1 of two horses. You may also name him as he is now your horse.
Horse 1 is a American Quarter Horse built for speed. He will speed up your common monster respawn time by 1 day (6 days instead of 7).
Horse 2 is a Baroque Horse built for attack. He will give you 1 extra attack to both your weapons.

...
Two things have come to my mind...
1) Why the heck is it called Two Halves of a Coconut?!
&
2) One of my dad's books will work for three different options...
If I remember correctly, there should be a potion for duplicating books...
Time to go to Jack & Jill's Caravan Hill!

So, Jack & Jill decided to settle down and create a family, huh?
Weren't those two siblings? Or am I remembering things wrong...

The Hill is pretty quiet today...
Everywhere, there are stalls selling different things.
I spot Jack behind one of them, a bunch of potions stacked on the counter in front of him, along the shelves on the wall behind him, and also on the floor around his feet.
"Hi, Mr. Jack!"
"Hmm? Hello, haven't seen you around here... Though you look ve familiar..."
"Oh, I'm Sir Gavin's son, Sir Gavin the Second."
"Oh! That's why you looked so familiar... Following in your old man's foots toes, aye?"
"Yessir."
"Well, welcome to Jack & Jill's Caravan Hill! What can I getcha?"
"Well, first I'd like to ask a question: do you guys also buy fro, knights? Or do you just sell?"
"Hmm? Well, there are the monthly confidentials."
"No, I mean, do you buy items?"
"Hmm... Nope, don't think so."
"Oh... ok, though, could you think about it?"
"Sure thing. Anything else?"
"Oh, yeah! Two Duplication Potions, please!"
"So, you're probably gonna pay with potion tokens, right?"
"Yup! How did you know?"
"I've had a lot of customers over the years, and the green horns pretty much always use tokens."
"Oh!"
I hand over two potion tokens.

Buy 2 Duplication Potions with 2 Potion Tokens.

Jack checks the tokens, puts them in a drawer, then hands me two grayish blue potions.
"Here ya go!"

Recieve 2 Duplication Potions.

"Nice doing business with ya!" says the shopkeeper.
"Same here!" I say.

I run back to the barracks, up the stairs, and into my room.
I grab my tote from the floor, reach into it, say "Artemis Fowl", feel the book materialize inside my grasp, and pull it out.
Next, I gently place it on the floor, bring the two potions out of my bag, careful not to crack the glass.
Next, I uncork one. An unpleasantly sour aroma fills the room.
"Blegh!" I exclaim.
Then, I pour the potion's contents on the golden book.
The potion doesn't really spill onto the book... More like spills "into" it, I guess.
Instead of pouring itself all over the book, it seemed to... I don't know, seep into the book, so that once the vial was empty, there wasn't a mark on the book.

Use Duplication Potion on Artemis Fowl.

"Huh?"
I pick up the book.
Had Jack cheated me?
Suddenly, it starts to shake and glow with a shiny white color.
"Ahhh!" I exclaim, throwing it in the floor.
It lands with a thump, and continues shaking.
It shakes faster and faster, until the shaking becomes vibrating.
Suddenly, the book seems to start to split into two... Well, no, not really split, but it was like another book was separating itself from the original book...
Once the two glowing white blocks were completely seperated, they stopped glowing, and I found myself staring down at two copies of Artemis Fowl.

Recieve 1 copy of Artemis Fowl.

"Nice."
I pour the other vial onto one of the two books, and the same thing happens.

Use Duplication Potion on Artemis Fowl.
Recieve 1 copy of Artemis Fowl.

"Great!" I say. "Now we're talking!"

Find all the items to receive your very first horse.

Complete Two Halves of a Coconut Quest.

Yes! It's finished!
I head over to the stables.
The stable master shows me two horses...
An American Quarter Horse with white skin, who looks thin and light on his feet. Most probably fast.
The second one is a Baroque Horse, who is thick and muscular and looks very strong with sleek, brown skin.
So, which one...
Speed...
Or brute strength?

Choose Baroque Horse (+1 AP to Staff & Sword).

I bringg my new horse to the Barracks' stables.
"Welcome to your new home, umm..."

Name Horse Charge.

"...Charge! Who'll charge with me into battle and trample my enemies under his feet!"
Charge whinnies, and nuzzles his cheek against mine.
"Wow, you sure are friendly!"

The stable master said that there was no need for a saddle or reigns or bridle, which is true. Charge lets me mount him without a complaint.
"K, lets check you out..."
I make him jog outside the stable, then make him gallop towards the forest.
He is fast, but not as fast as the quarter that I had practiced with years before.
We enter the forest through the horse path, which is full of horse droppings, a favorite treat of Sewer Rats.
We gallop and gallop, then, suddenly I see one up ahead.
I pull my Staff out, and hold it out to my right. Next, I raise it back, then swing once I'm close enough.
My Staff misses its mark by a little bit, but I still hit one of its hind legs, talking away its ability to escape.
Charge takes care of the rest of him via trampling.

Attack Sewer Rat (-7 HP, 0 Remaining).
Sewer Rat Dies.
Gain 1 EXP.
Sewer Rats will evade me until 2/24/17.

I take a quick look back at the corpse, lose my appetite, and decide not to bring it to the Tavern.

I am tired of waking up to the smell of sweat (even if it be my own), having to put Charge in the Barrack's stall, where some of the other horses bother him, and not having enough quiet to read properly... I need my own place.

Accept Sticks and Stones May Build a House Quest.

The local barracks are getting a bit stuffy for your sensitive knightly tastes and you're looking to expand into something more cushy that can house your collection of miniature poodle figurines.

Man, building a house is sure tiring! And I haven't even started the actual building yet! (Need to buy a field for that).
While searching for a possibly free of charge field on Charge, I spot a Sewer Rat.

Attack Sewer Rat (-7 HP, 0 Remaining).
Sewer Rat Dies.
Gain 1 EXP.
Sewer Rats will evade me until 3/13/17.

The gem itself isn't shaking, but it feels as if it is shaking.
The shaking enters my hands, then climbs up my arms and into my chest.
I feel stronger... Healthier.

"Ya know, you should really do something."
I tear my eyes away from the third sentence of the second page of the book I was reading and look up at the speaker, who happens to be the librarian.
His face is old and wrinkled, but his eyes... They seem, so... Young.
They are a bright hue of blue, and are full of kindness and wonder.
If I had to compare him to any literary character, I would say that he was like a beardless Albus Dumbledore.
"Do... Something?" I say.
"Do something. Reading books and all is great, but... Shouldn't you be, I don't know... Knighting, or whatnot?"
I close the book in my hand, lay it on the wooden table in front of me, and say, "But... You of all people should understand!"
I jolt up onto my feet and spread out my arms, gesturing to the rows of books around me. I lift my chin, close my eyes, and say, "There are just too many books to read! Just at all these magnificent shelves! Si magnifique! Bo no che po que!"
I am snapped out of the trance by the back of the librarian's hand slapping my cheek.
I blink twice.
"That snapped you out of it. That was... Tsukiyama, from Sui Ishida's Tomyo Ghoul, correct? Did you even know what you were saying?"
I stare at the librarian, blinking every two seconds. This old man knew Tokyo Ghoul?
"I noticed that you've read every volume from the original manga and a few of the sequels... It's not so good to lose yourself in such a macabre title."
I manga to open my mouth, "It's been a while since I've read it."
"Oh. Well, anyway, I wanted to show you this."
He brought a slip of paper out of his pocket and gave it to me.
"What's this?" I asked.
"That," he says, "is a list of the contents of your Infinite Book Tote."
"WHAT?!" I shout, outraged, earning a bunch of shushes from around me. Right, this was a library.
"Where did you get that?" I whispered.
"From your Hero page in the book of Goodreads©."
"Oh. Okay... So, you're showing me this why?"
He handed me another slip of paper, this one out from his other pocket.
"This is a list of books you've read."
I look from one list to the other.
Then, it suddenly clicks.
An expression of sheer terror appears on my face. Sweat starts to accumulate upon my forehead.
"No.. It, it can't be..."
He looks at me with an expression that is both grave and sorry.
I sink down into my chair, hand grasping my forehead.
"There are about... Who knows how many... Haven't added... Too caught up... Why..."
The librarian is staring at me.
"You're right," I say, wiping my forehead with the back of my hand. "I should get to work." I get up and thank the kind man. He says you're welcome.
I exit the library, get on Charge, and gallop all the way to the Barracks.
I have a lot of work to do.
