Feel free to talk about what you're currently reading in this thread.

I'm reading The Love Pirate and the Bandit's Son Murder, Sin, and Scandal in the Shadow of Jesse James. I'm not too far into it, but there are references to places around where I grew up. I think that always makes a book more fun.

I'm taking the plunge and am going to try to get myself through Eclipse! Wish me luck!

Good luck! I'm flying through Thirteen Moons. Do we want to read something together next?

message 5: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Heck yeah! I have just the book... Mu ha ha ha!!!!!! Shall we get together on Thursday night? I'm not sure that I'll be up for anything tonight, but Thursday should be great!

Sounds good to me!

That's quite an evil laugh. What book are we reading?

Mu ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! I can't tell you just yet... I'll have to show you. :)

I'm currently working on An Artist of the Floating World by Kazuo Ishiguro and Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer.

I'm only a little way into each book, but am enjoying both. :)

I want to borrow An Artist of the Floating World when you're done with it. It sounds good. Unless it's a library book of course...

message 10: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
The copy I have is being borrowed from the ICPL, but I'm really liking it, so I think I might just buy it. Besides. I'll let ya know! :)

So...When are we starting House of Leaves?

message 12: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
You just let me know. :) Hmmm... now that I've said that, how about this weekend? Then I can finish up the two graphic novels and hopefully An Artist of the Floating World? I'll make a special folder here for House of Leaves right now! :)

Let's see... have you read The Pillars of the Earth? There's a GR group here that is going to read it in October, and I've been wanting to read that one too. :)

message 13: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
I have not read The Pillars of the Earth yet. I also want to borrow the rest of the Twilight books. I'm ok to start House of Leaves this weekend.

message 14: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Sweet. My sister has the second book (borrowing from me) in the Twilight series... I'll either grab it from here or I could check it out for you from the ICPL when you're ready for it.

Interested in doing House of Leaves now and The Pillars of the Earth in October? I'd be totally up for it. Pillars is quite a long book - but it has pretty good reviews and a good rating here.

Oh - about the Twilight series - book 3 makes up for how incredibly awful book 2 is! :) (Well, that's my opinion.)

message 15: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
I finished Twilight last night, so any time... Don't rush her though. HoL sounds good for now.

message 16: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Well... I could start House of Leaves tonight if you're interested... then I can either grab the second book from here or check it out from the ICPL for ya. :) I work a few blocks from it, so it's really not out of my way at all hun!

Actually... now that I'm thinking of it, would you want to read the second book now and then start HoL just after it? I say this because I was ready for a Twilight break after the second book.

Either way is totally fine with me, I promise! :)

message 17: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
If your sister's not done with it, don't worry about it. I have plenty of other things to read before this weekend. I also shouldn't be reading too much because I still need to get ready for Friday!

message 18: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Okay, so I'm over 100 pages into Breaking Dawn... it's a bit strange. I'm really wondering what's going to happen - it could be reallllly good, or verrrrrrry bad. I wish I could read faster! I hate not knowing!

message 19: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Okay... Breaking Dawn might be worth suffering your way through the second book. I'm about 140 pages into the book... and the author has improved in her writing style. It's frustrating though, every time the story gets good, she switches to the perspective of a different character. Argh!

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
Are you reading at work?

message 21: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Nooo! Never! I came to work late today because Anja went to meet her new teacher this morning. I read a bit while I walked from lot 11 to the engineering building. :)

I'm such a nerd!

message 22: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
Is reading and walking a good idea? Especially since you have to cross the street...

message 23: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
I don't read when I cross the street silly! Besides, it's no different than listening to an IPOD, texting, or talking on a cell phone and walking. :)~

message 24: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
Maybe it's just my lack of coordination that makes it difficult for me to complete tasks like walking and reading. My eyes need to be looking where I'm going, or I'll trip and fall...

I need a new audio book... I might try the Lian Hearn book in English. Does Wimmie still need to get the German version for you?

message 27: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
If he wants to. I probably won't listen to it any time soon. I probably don't really need it... Is there a way to change a tape to a digital version?

message 28: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
I'm sure that there's a way to change a tape to a digital version, but we don't have a tape player... :(

message 29: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
OMG! The Otori series appears to be available on audio book at the ICPL. I'll check them out, and have Wimmie do his magic! Then we'll have digital copies!!!!!!!

message 30: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
Yay! That would be awesome. I love how they're read.

message 31: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Yes, I'll do it! I really want to listen to them!

I'm almost 25% of the way through Shantaram. It's quite good so far! I think I'll attack The Pillars of the Earth next.

I finished listening to A Thousand Splendid Suns on the way to Missouri on Friday. It was an awesome book! I'll have to read it sometime, but it was a good one to listen to. I started The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society on the way home last night. I listened to the first 2 CDs and laughed out loud multiple times. Thanks for sharing these with me!

message 34: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
No problem at all! I'm glad that you enjoyed them. Wimmie has found a few more for me, but I still need to get them on my itouch. :)

Even though 紙葉の家 didn't work out, I think we should try to read something together again. Do you have any ideas?

message 36: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Have you heard of The Pillars of the Earth? I'm realllly wanting to read that, and have heard tons of good things about it. It's long, but it is supposed to be a pretty quick read. If you don't like that idea, maybe Oliver Twist?

Otherwise, suggest away! I'd also be interested in Anna Karenina, The Woman in White, An Artist of the Floating World, or anything that you might be interested in!

(Do at least look at The Pillars of the Earth, it is supposed to be goooood!)

Let me know!

message 37: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Oh, and I don't think you could pay me enough to read 紙葉の家 in Japanese!

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
Lol! I'm ok with The Pillars of the Earth. You had mentioned it earlier when we chose House of Leaves. I'll have to get it, but it sounds good!

It means I get to go to a book store! Do you think 1/2 Price Books has it? Or should I just go to Barnes & Noble?

message 39: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (last edited Oct 26, 2009 02:45PM) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
I thought you already read An Artist of the Floating World?.?.?. Though, it sounds good too!

message 40: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
It's worth trying to get from Half Price Books! I'd go for it, and then do B&N as a backup!

I've started An Artist of the Floating World, but never finished it. Not because it isn't good, but because I got sucked into Shantaram!

Ohhhh if you want to go to B&N, let me know! I need to hit the mall!

message 41: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
It was great to see you last night! Let me know if you still want to go to B&N! I can always use a trip to a book store!

message 42: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Sounds good! I'm always up for a trip to the book store! :)~ Did you say that you might be going home this weekend? I got confused and can't remember.

The funeral for Ronnie is on Friday (Dad called me and let me know last night). I'm not sure I'm going, and even if I do, I wouldn't stay long. I want to be in IA this weekend. I have enough stuff to get done. I could do something this weekend.

We could try Half Price Books...I still have that gift certificate for KAJI Japanese Grille in CR...

message 45: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Hmmm... we might be able to do it on Sunday then. I'll see if my parents want to take the kids on Sunday for a bit. I think that a Kaji experience will be much easier without them. I'll let ya know! :)
